2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Where, where?!?!? Link, please! 😁
Alysa will only be 13 come nationals....

Very similar to Stephen Gogolev at Canadians this season. He'd already won the junior title just after turning 12, so he moved on to seniors even though he couldn't even compete junior internationally yet. I see the logic for both of them. Might as well push yourself, since you already have the junior title.

Some news on our juniors:
Hanna Harrell posted that she has begun working on 3a/quads
she is also not sure if she will compete as a senior at nationals yet but will obviously continue on the jgp circuit if given the chance
Alysa Liu posted that she will be competing as a senior at nationals(!!!!), her 3a is consistent, she is working all almost every type of quad, she will attempt 3a at nationals and her long program is Witches of Eastwick while she is keeping her sp. Some of that was already posted in fanfests but for those who don't read those.... and some additional info that wasn't posted there.
ALL INFO FROM IG STORIES

thanks for updating as I don't have Instagram. Shes the only skater I care to follow now because she is from my hometown and I really hope she succeeds. What is Witches of eastwick? I searched on youtube...I hope it's something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax4xEA_Jstk or this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SKZexrOAxA

I hope it's not like this :palmf:: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItOTHuBxGas

glad to hear she's keeping her short program, it's a mature and sentimental sounding latin piece.

Well, obviously I don't know what version she is using but looking at past skaters that have used that music....Mirai comes to mind(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEDJOZQhOI0&t=49s) Hers was a SP so harder to compare but she started off with a lyrical instrumental piece of the soundtrack and then it changed to a "witchy", darker piece. Who knows what Alysa will do, I can't wait to see though.

did you guys see that Alysa is competing senior nationally and competing her 3a, while working on quads?!? (from her insta story)
That's pretty amazing. Would she be the youngest US senior national champion of all time if she managed to win at the age of 13?

Yes.

Will be very interesting to see how US judges handle her PCS. I would anticipate Alysa NOT winning unless the favorites who are seniors internationally (Bradie, Mirai, Mariah, maybe Starr too) seriously bomb. USFS wants to build up Alysa but not so much that they make their current seniors look bad - I also think that the attention and pressure that comes with winning senior nationals would have negative consequences for a 13 year old.

If she's doing clean quads she'll receive low enough PCS to make sure she doesn't win I would imagine.

Alysa (birthdate 8/05) will be 14 at 2019 Nationals, so even if she won, she wouldn't be the youngest: Mirai Nagasu (birthdate 5/93) won US Senior Nationals at 13 in 2007.

Mirai won at age 14. And Alyss will be all next season. She can’t even compete as a junior because she’s not eligible.

My maths say that that'd still be around 3 months younger than Nagasu.

Mirai won in January 2008, so she was about 14 years, 8 months , 4 months before she turned 15.
Alysa would be 13 months and 5 months in January 2019.

Alysa was born on August 2005 so she would be 13 years and 5 months, not 14.

Quite a few ladies will have to bomb for Alysa to win Sr. Nat's but there is a high possibility she'll be on the podium if she goes clean. :agree2:

I partially agree. Bradie and Mirai would get much higher PCS (and deserve it), but I don't think that Starr is so established internationally that she would get any undeserved bump ahead of others. There are a lot of skaters who do hard elements in practice but never achieve them in competition, so if Alysa does so, she should be rewarded fairly.

Also, Mirai really isn't so consistent that she couldn't have a bad skate... Perhaps Bradie would be the favorite to win but really, especially if Alysa is able to bring a good 3A/4S, the potential for history being made is there. I think that her chances are much better than they might have been a couple of years ago, in any case.

I think USFS will try to push any decent lady who is a senior internationally over Alysa at 2019 Nationals. It'd be one thing if Alysa was even junior-eligible internationally - a rep boost by being national champion going into Junior Worlds would be nice, and USFS wants to show they have someone who can compete with the Russian girls. But in the meantime, USFS probably wants to do their best to promote their current seniors. Those girls getting beat by someone who has never even competed as a junior internationally just looks embarrassing.

(I only listed Starr because USFS really likes her, and I believe she will be competing as a senior next year internationally. She could be a realistic top 3 pick at Nationals, especially if Mirai sits out the season.)

ETA: We'll also have to see what Alysa looks like at 2019 Nationals. Artistically and in regards to skating skills, I was not very impressed with her when she won her junior national title (but lots of respect for what she does technically, of course!!!). I preferred both Pooja and Ting in regards to PCS qualities. I expect Alysa to receive a "future favorite" PCS boost ahead of girls who aren't expected to ever compete internationally, but stay well behind the "favorites" and even the "dark horses" in terms of PCS, and probably deservedly. If things look like she could surpass the favorites on TES alone, they won't give her the future favorite boost.

I agree, nationals politics is strong. It would be a different story is Alysa was eligible for even junior worlds..

Adelina won her first Russian Senior title two years before she debuted on the JGP, and also won Russian titles in the years that Alena Leonova placed 4th and 2nd at Worlds. We really have to be looking at these junior and pre-junior women as the future medal contenders.
