Nathan Chen

yes, only in M&G you can hug Nathan. in competitions you canNOT.

Sad I missed out on the M&G :(

I hope he does US SOI next year but I don't know if it would work with school

Can you even meet skaters at competitions at all?

another way to stalk skaters is to live in official hotels during competitions. I know lots of fans got everything they wanted, though this way. But competitions are general more intense than ice shows, skaters are usually in a hurry and fan service is not what they suppose to do (not as relaxed as in shows).

I am a Nathan fan ...

But I don't think I want to go to the next level - Nathan stalker

Maybe try to catch him after the competition is over ? If this even would be possible and hopefully he would be in a good mood after winning a gold medal !

living in Official hotels as the skaters, you may meet them in the lobby, acctually quite easy.
but for high profile skater like Nathan, it is difficult, I don't kr, but it is a very easy way to meet international skaters.

then Skate America always arrange autograph session and maybe M&G for some VIP (IDK), autograph session is 30min, you have to get in the line fast before cut-off, then you have a chance to meet Nathan, give him a gift, talk a few. but selfies seems is not allowed, unless you are very cute children.

after competition is the best time to meet Nathan, but you got to be lucky to meet him or spot him. Nathan does randomly pop-up after competitions.

i have meet many international high profile skaters in the lobby of official hotels at Skate America. e.g. Med

Meeting Nathan sounds rather challenging - and stressful.

Waiting until the next SOI M&G would be the easiest !

I've met some very famous athletes before (Kobe, Steph, baseball players) - and honestly they didn't seem quite as inaccessible as Nathan sounds - haha

oh well - as a true fan I need to respect Nathan's privacy 😊

no, Nathan is super nice and humble, if you meet him randomly like in Starbucks, he will be nice and will agree to selfies or even hugs.

it is just in competitions, Nathan is relatively more high-profile than others, especially inside US, Nathan may be more casual outside US like in COR, I guess the reason is that the organizers knows that Nathan has too many fans inside US, thus they protected Nathan a bit more than others.
Yuzuru is the most high-profile skater in any event. nearly 0 chance to meet him.

SOI M&G is literally the best chance.

haha I was just kidding - and I didn't meet those athletes in competition settings either.

The chances of meeting Nathan randomly are quite slim to nonexistent though.

Nathan might have to start using the back door/service elevator at hotels during competitions !

And yes - I agree - SOI M&G would be the best - no stressful Nathan searching or stalking needed ;)

;) you would not understand how stressful it is to search or stalk your fav skater during a competition. until you tried it yourself, Well it is an experience though.;)

OMG, folks this is a FAMILY FORUM! LOL

Anyway, our Japanese fan was the one who gave Nathan the Apple watch! She split the cost with another of Nathan's fans.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bi2DT1wgkjn/

Cute story: She started singing happy birthday and then Jason and Vincent, who were at the next table, started singing along. She asked Nathan if he had one already and was relieved when he answered no.

some front row tickets still available for Skate America!

Thanks sheetz for sharing - and I had a feeling that watch was a gift! And Nike edition - how thoughtful.

Are Nathan's Japanese fans the only ones who fly around the world for him? I don't know of any famous American fans ... though perhaps some fans would like to guard their privacy.

I am intending to go to both 4cc/sa(4cc preferred) and gpf...but really just to see Nathan. Can't book the trip till I am sure Nathan will attend.

Ha-ha did you forget how Nathan entered the arena through a regular entrance at CoR? :D :D like, he wanted to go to the practice room but smh got lost and basically went to the arena like a regular visitor? lol Many girls were lucky to catch him, hug him, etc lol

wow! Three competitions - true Nathan fan 😍

I prefer 4CC too - way easier for me to attend. Are GPF tickets still available? No way could I travel that week though.

Are you thinking of attending Nationals? This year's Nationals was in the same venue as where I saw SOI ! But I vaguely remember looking at the ticket prices and thinking they were expensive - I think it was necessary to purchase all-event tickets to see Nathan? I wasn't anywhere as much a Nathan fan as now - another Nathan regret :( - seems to be a theme here - ha

aww, lucky girls to catch him in his confusion !

no formal diagnosis intended here! But I found this interesting re: athletes and ADHD

https://www.forbes.com/sites/dalearcher/2014/07/16/how-adhd-puts-athletes-in-the-zone/#73d6094913a3

'Michael Phelps, Terry Bradshaw, Pete Rose, Bruce Jenner, Justin Gatlin, Michael Jordan, Andres Torres, Greg Louganis, Chris Kaman, Cammi Granato…the list goes on. With so many medal-winning, record-breaking sprinters, swimmers, pro-ballers and Olympians diagnosed with the condition, there should be an ADHD Sports Hall of Fame. So, this begs the question: is there something about the trait that lends itself to athletic greatness? Equally, is there something about athleticism that helps to ameliorate the restlessness and distractions commonly associated with ADHD, allowing those who indulge their physical nature with exercise and sports to focus and perform better in many other areas of life.'

'Many of these strengths translate well to sports. Athletes with ADHD tend to perform better in sports that require hyper focus, i.e. short and intense bursts of attention. They can be in the moment, with a heightened awareness of their immediate environment. They excel in chaotic conditions and thrive under pressure. They are risk takers who can come up with creative, out-of-the box solutions, and they don’t over think, enabling them to make a play without hesitating over possible consequences. Their impulsivity, if controlled, can also lead to quicker reaction times, saving precious microseconds that can mean the difference between losing or winning.'

and from https://www.elitedaily.com/money/10-successful-people-adhd

'There is a common misconception out there that people with ADHD become too distracted to get anything done. This couldn’t be any further from the truth.

Today there’s an estimated 7% of adults who are affected by this disorder. And of that percentage comes some of the world’s most influential people. That’s right, some of the greatest philosophers, athletes and entrepreneurs of all time suffer from this not-so-rare condition.

The truth is that when people with ADHD are able find something that they’re passionate about, they will dedicate themselves harder than anyone else could even imagine — often times crushing the competition.'

'7. Michael Jordan, The Greatest Of All Time MJ is perhaps the most polarizing sports figure on the planet. During his NBA career, he became the greatest of all time and made basketball what it is today. Oh yeah… and he had ADHD. His success went beyond just sports to business where he rakes in millions of dollars through sneakers sales and other investments. He has his hands in a lot of pots and is always looking for his next move — a common trait to this condition.'
