Nathan Chen

Who’s knows but that’s his business, we don’t need to know about that aspect of his life unless he decides to share so let’s just let that be.

I think they’d name an ice arena after him, maybe he’d get his own statue lol. Honestly they’re going to promote him so much if he becomes Olympic champion, it’s not even funny. That’s a goldmine of publicity for the city if that happens because it’s an Olympic city. He’d be set for life [emoji23]

I just realized it’s Ashley’s Bday today. Nathan day is also on his partners birthday, nice!

My friend just texted me: ‘Best day of the year is may 16th’

Congrats to Nathan - he is so very deserving of this honor!💞❄️

colton - I saw this photo and thought of you:

absssssssss yssssssssss

It's not exactly funny.

And there is a way to do it that isn't scary or threatening to them. People just need to take the skaters feelings and reactions into consideration and then figure it out.

i said the way the thread was going is funny
i never said stalking someone is funny. it's not
when did i ever encourage stalking of an athlete that is invasive????

I don’t think anyone has encouraged actual stalking here.

That said, I would assume figure skaters (whether North American or international) are human - with differences among them. Some may invite fans to their hotel rooms (not implying anything untoward here), some may exchange numbers and text with fans they have met. I know for certain that some (American skaters) dm with fans on Instagram. Some even FaceTime with fans. Some skaters don’t get anywhere near the attention that Nathan gets - and seem to be flattered by the attention.

That said - I don’t personally communicate with any skaters and haven’t even met any personally. But I think it is impossible to make a sweeping statement saying ‘all skaters don’t do this’ just like I know some ballet dancers or even very well-known athletes have contact and communication with their fans. I would think it is very individual.

And we realize that Nathan is a private person as well.

It's not a sweeping statement when I know from the inside and what it's like. But YMMV.

hhh - thanks for sharing ... so descriptive, I feel like I'm right there :) . Good call on purchasing the M&G tickets then - I think they sold out here very shortly after.

Nathan sounds very thoughtful and considerate of others 😍... and sounds like he can understand Mandarin. Sounds like he gets a bit spoiled with gifts from fans (like Apple watch), but he totally deserves it!

@hhh Thanks for sharing!😊 I wonder how many gifts he gets regularly, fans are pretty thoughtful about what to get him that I feel like between gifts and sponsorships, he probably rarely actually has to spend his own money 😂

I hope one day he’s able to fluently speak mandarin. He already understands most of it so it won’t be too difficult to get down the speaking if he really wants to. It’d be a huge benefit for him in the future, take advantage Nathan.

Never specifically did I say you, there were others that did say it though.

From what I’ve seen, he gets tons of shirts/sweaters/clothes. But if he likes something, he’ll wear it to death lol. He doesn’t care, he just wants to be comfortable.

from SOI M&G, wealthy Japanese fans, and upcoming summer with lots more gifts from Japanese fans - and Nike taking care of most of his wardrobe/shoes - he probably doesn't have to buy much on his own - if anything

And if he gets Dove Men/Unilever sponsorship - free personal care products too. Though I think he gets a lot of this type of stuff as gifts as well. Plus I am guessing he has received care packages for college or is going to be given them with daily necessities included.

I don't think Nathan wears the same things over and over again because he doesn't have other stuff to wear - those are just what he likes best and feels comfy wearing. I find this very relatable 😍

One thing I respect about high profile skaters is that (from what I’ve seen) they don’t take advantage of fans when it comes to gifts and stuff. They could easily be like “I want this this and this” on a bunch of expensive items and some fan somewhere would be willing to spend the money to make them happy regardless how expensive. I like that they don’t try to sway fans to buy certain things for them and are thankful for what they’ve given. That’s how it should be but I can see the temptation to want to take advantage and I’m glad most don’t.

It might be overwhelming sometimes to have too many gifts too, I’m sure it can accumulate fast.

Oh my gosh I think the guy I saw at m&g was from the Queer Eye, another guy from the show also attended tonight’s show in SLC. I should’ve said hi... Ok me hungry need to hunt some food.

I wonder how many skaters really receive expensive gifts like Apple watch or perhaps even more pricey gifts. I would think the list would actually be quite short - Nathan, Hanyu, Shoma, other Japanese skaters? I think Evgenia and Alina may receive a lot of gifts.
But I am under the impression that other American skaters probably don't receive the types of gifts that Nathan is given.

Skaters that are regularly on the podium I consider high profile enough that they probably have a decent size fanbase. Ofc Hanyu, Nathan, Shoma probably on the higher end of that but I would think Alina/Evgenia, V/M, S/M, S/H, P/C, Shibs, Boyang, Kolyada, Osmand, Patrick, any Japanese ladies (esp Marin) etc would get decent amount of gifts from fans.

I think Nathan has enough on his plate right now - fluently speak Mandarin too? I'm sure he could someday if he's really motivated ... but maybe he's not super with foreign languages? I don't know. But he said he doesn't understand any Russian - even though he's had Russian teachers for most of his life ... which I have as well and I can understand some Russian (if necessary).
