2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Maybe I just understand this at all? Who cares if someone picks their nose in private? It’s private. Someone video taping this and using it to publicly embarrass the person would be immoral not the actual nose picking.
Non-native speaker probs: what's up with this nose picking analogy? Does it have another English meaning than literal? :scratch2:

Is it really your point, that anything we do in private, when revealed, can not be judged by other people and society?
I really hope it isn't, because going along with it, we may end with "What if someone beats his wife in private...?" or even "What if someone kills people in private...?"

this thread is going completely:popcorn: From 'moral standpoints' to peaking the noise to Klichko and now domestic violence... and 18/19 hasn't started yet but it's already 125 pages :yes2:

What you mentioned are crimes.......huge difference from what we’re talking about....
What Zhenya (allegedly) said isn’t a crime, when don’t know what context or the way she (allegedly) said it.
As I said, no one is innocent from saying problematic things. (You’re free to judge her if you want, but I think it’s a huge stretch to say she’s a bad person with no morals because of it)

(I still can’t comprehend how you connected what Zhenya said to freaking murder)

That's not a very good analogy. Evgenia didn't pick her nose in public, did she? She picked her nose in what she thought was private - it's not her fault if someone else broadcast her nose-picking on television. Er. So to speak.

We have to train while the competition slacks during offseason, so we can win the "longest national thread" cup ;)
This is what is going on.

Diana liked a mean comment about Evgenia in her ig, that's why fans went (more) crazy in her comments.
But people should leave her alone, she's fifteen and she personally knows the people involved in this drama.
Everybody makes mean comments when our emotions are running high, the worst is when other people passes judgement without knowing the full picture

Great points.

I think the pain for Diana runs deep because her mother worked with Zhenya for 11 years and Zhenya was often called Eteris second daughter. I have no doubt that Diana sometimes felt neglected by her mother because of Zhenya. Ouch. All I can say is I hope they all end up healthy and happy. This saga is unfortunate. But this is sports.

i wonder how many medvedeva fans are actually russian on this forum. are there any?
all people there are so nice to her, while reading the russian forums i feel like medvedeva is hated now by 95% of figure skating fans. it's the same amount of hate that eteri receives here (or probably more). for example, if you want to get a hundreds of thumbs up on your post on sports.ru all you need is to write a bashing on medvedeva (i'm doing this from time to time just for fun). although sports.ru is famous for hate on evgenia, it wasn't like that in the past. it was like 50/50 or even 60/40 in favor of zhenya. but now it's just madness, it all looks like she will get some "boo" from the crowd if she suddenly appears at rostelecom

No booing Zhenya. She is not hated. Her leavig Eteri for Orser in Canada has upset some people. But people will come to their senses in time.

well, figure skating fans are not soccer fans, they are mostly acting classy in public, and they don't want to hoot down on anybody, but the feelings are strong in these one. so i can't exclude a possibility of hearing some "boo" from a small amount of people at least. and i don't think it will changes with time, i think that the russian crowd is forever lost for her.
i'm one of those people who supported medvedeva in the past. but now i can't see myself rooting for her ever again, no matter what will happen. i don't hate her, from now on i just don't care at all

Go watch the new TSL video on youtube, they have some interesting things to say about the age limit proposal and about Evgenia and Brian teaming up. I'm like them - excited and eager to see what the TCC team can do with her. I think she has much more to give us and I want to see her get a chance to do it. They mentioned about her "Katarina Witt" quality..

Definately not soccer fans. ;)

Zhenya is not changing citizenship. Just coaches. It is sad. But this is sports.

And I can't comprehend how they connected what Zhenya said to nose picking??? :confused2:

ok so lemme show you the chain.

1. Zhenya complained that Eteri didnt held Alina back after her FS at Olympics, in the heat of the moment
2. Someone here said it was ok, because we all can say such things in the heat of the moment, it doesnt mean its bad
3. I said that if many people do something, it doesnt make it good either, and brought nose picking as example

and then I didnt really follow because things started to get weirder =)

PS: and this is why i love doing random weird comparisons <3

As a foreigner, I'd say: What a shame on your patriotic madness.

As a foreigner, I'd say: What a shame on your patriotic madness.

Actually, after olympics, there was a whole pendulum thing.
Right after the games most people were like "Zhenya was robbed, Zhenya is the true OGM, Zhenya deserved more". Zagitova was kinda ignored by fans and not really considered Olympic Champion. Now they went all the way in the opposite direction.

The worst is that people are putting Alina into this game.

the thing is that russian fans are not patriotic at all. for example, i never saw on goldenskate a poster from canada that bashes a canadian skater. not even a smallest amount of critique on canada are coming from that camp. in russia it's all opposite. nobody gets so much hate on russian forums as russian skaters. on the same sports.ru there is only love for foreign skaters, and all users who is trying to say even something tiny controversial on them immediately got banned (i was banned there just for pointing out that yuzuru jumps are not the biggest among men, according to actual jumps height measurements). so it's not really about being patriotic, it's about medvedeva actions. and i don't think that foreign fans are actually understanding the context of what medvedeva did

Eteri flipped the switch (or let it to be flipped) at Putin's inauguration. It was first time Alina was introduced and promoted as Olympic champion.
Tutberidze was 100% camp Evgenia, until the very end. Zhulin says she told him in private conversation, she wished Medvedeva won the Olympic gold.

The worst is that people are putting Alina into this game.
I think when you find out your friend betrayed you, you're automatically into the game, no matter what people say. :scowl:

You nailed it.

The context of what Med did was simply changing coach. In all other countries no one try to talk down the athletes just because they change their coaches. Kwan left Frank Caroll and she's still American darling. Gracie left Frank and people put xxx on Frank too (I don't feel sad for him though).
