Yuzuru Hanyu: 2017-2018

While I find the TeenChoiceAwards so silly, I am pleasantly shocked and excited to think that he can generate that type of interest in a N. American outlet over the more hyped American athletes with literally zero effort in marketing himself over here.
Yeah is nice.

But my money is in an athlete of other sport winning, or the skater with an agent in USA winning (Virtue/Moir or the ShibShibs).

TCA, PCA work that way. If ShibSibs appear in the event, know that they will be winning for sure.

I don't think they want a bunch of skaters as nominees, so he may not even be nominated if they have the option of V/M and or the Shibs.

While it would be fun if he did get nominated, not expecting Teen Choice Awards to nominate a foreign athlete from a sport that hardly gets any popularity.

:otopic: Maybe because I did R&J for two whole years in high school (one year and a half too long TBH), but I can't see Romeo or Juliet as anything remotely adult-like. That's what makes the whole thing special I think; for R&J it was 'everything or nothing', there's no in between for them. "These violent delights have violent ends" fits them to a T, and while I like the concept of reconstruction, I just don't see it for R&J. Would love to see skaters try to change my mind though :agree:

I don't know why most people do. They're far more transparent than the Oscars. We know the "hottest"/most relatable ones are going to win. Goodness knows what backroom politics might be pulled during the Oscars (so I guess that's pretty relatable for FS fans).

hmmm. you do have a point. Perhaps this decidedly NotTeen should figure out how the process works so I can throw a vote in.

I wonder what the chances are that Yuzu would actually go if he were to get nominated. The thought of him being there makes me giggle.

I imagine someone like Serena Williams will end up winning but maybe being nominated will give people ideas of trying to market foreign athletes instead of just depending on American stars to rise. Baiul and Witt did pretty well with the American public. Might be more difficult with a non-lady but seems better to try than continuing as is while watching the slow death of American skating.

Because with the movie/ tv industry you pretty much know and can predict who is gonna win. And that´s why you have award/ Oscar bait movies, that´s you know people at Academy is gonna like.

Instead TCA, KCA; teens/ kids do believe in them. And try their hardest to made their fave win. But you are right they are based on what is on trend, that´s the reason they have two tides of announcement of awards.

Twit usually means "idiot", and I wouldn't put it past the Teen Choice Awards to pay their respect to one of those, but it means "twitter personality" here.

The Makuhari show will be filmed and aired on the 28th I think?
EDIT: http://www.bs-asahi.co.jp/fantasyonice2018/ BS Asahi 28th 9pm
Kobe and Shizuoka shows will also be aired, but it's not decided when.

Thank you! :-) I guess I'll have to painstakingly wait until then.

And, for the Teen Choice Awards, I'd imagine (among skaters), the Shibutanis have the highest chance of getting nominated/attending the event.

It seems like Maia has acknowledged the voting process as well? I don't know. Imagine what happens if one of the ShibSibs gets an award and the other doesn't. :slink:

It's his best artistic performance. I would say nothing's really matched since. It's why I hope he overhauls his artistic approach this season, and does something out of the ordinary for him.

Reading all the praise (if speaking about artistry) for Chopin, R&J 1, and Seimei from a lot of different people really makes me think I'm the only one thinking his Requiem (WC 2016 particulary) and Notte Stellata are his best artistic performances.. Although I'm always fascinated with Seimei, everything matches together so well it's unreal. Btw, doesn't he always try something different with his programs? LGC, H&L, Seimei, Chopin - only a few of recent ones and they are all different and require different artistic approaces, different movements and expressions.

I think Seimei and Chopin aren't that great.

My qualm with him is the repeating, be it Notte Stellata, or Chopin, or Parisienne Walkways, or Seimei. It gets stale. How are you supposed to grow if you repeat? He bettered himself as a skater, but not always as an artist. I also don't think the choreography has really matched the depth of R&J1, although both LGC and H&L are done well in terms of adding depth. He looked at ease in LGC because of how it played on his personality. Moreover, I think Chopin and Notte Stellata have the same "base" of showing maturity, and then Notte Stellata and Hope and Legacy share introspective qualities, and Seimei shares the intensity he brings in quite a few performances. LGC could be a build on Parisienne Walkways, but in a good way, because it showcased the growth.

I hope he overhauls it in the sense that he stops repeating for sure, but along with that either 1) explores some new side of himself, or 2) has more complex pieces choreographed (R&J1, or to a lesser extent H&L and LGC).

I adore Requiem and Notte Stellata... maybe Requiem by a hairsbreath.

And for all the criticism he got for repeating Chopin and Seimei last season (I went back and read it and had to admit I giggled a lot in hindsight), you have to admit it showed an almost spooky futuristic prescience, as if someone could foretell he would need something he knew by heart come the Olympics... like I said, spooky.

Did anyone mentioned POTO? I personally like his interpretation and expressions for that program.

I did not know about this award so I looked it up on my friend Wiki [emoji23]

Is this one vote by one person? Has any Asian won this award before? And what does "Choice Twit" mean?
Michelle kwan has won the Choice Female Athelete. Actually David Beckham once won the award too. So they do award foreigners. And considering Twilight cast won over like 10 times for the Teen Choice Award Surf boards, the awards are given out based on popularity and fandom power
