This might have been some sort of a joke but I would like to ask you kindly to stay respectful to the skaters. I don't think that Zhenya Medvedeva is moving to Canada just to enjoy herself. Packing up your stuff and moving to the other side of the world is never an easy decision. Just like Alina did a couple of years ago, as she had to move across the country, with limited finances and a lot of struggles in Moscow in order to train under the best conditions for her. They both are very brave.
You see, Med was trained under Eteri for so long, had many successful competitions but this year everything was different. There were struggles, an injury, insecurities, their trust was broken, so it really didn't make sense for them to stay together. Eteri's approach will stay the same in the upcoming season but it doesn't work for Zhenya any more. Was she supposed to just stay stuck and wait..for nothing? No, she made a decision and embraced the change! And yes, there are going to be another struggles in Canada, Zhenya will be most certainly inconsistent because Brian Orser will try to improve her technique.
The competition bar won't be so high as it was, but it doesn't mean that it will be easy peasy for Alina. Remember the WC, Medvedeva wasn't even there...and then we know what happened. So, this season Alina's main competitor will be herself. Will she manage to deal with her fears and nerves? I really hope so! She's capable of it! We'll just need to wait.
