Mikhail Kolyada

Coming up soon! - new interview with Tatjana Flade:

A nice haircut :luv17:

BTW any thoughts what GPs Mika will be in - isn't the end of May - beginning of June when the GP announced? My bet is on NHK and CoR though I personally would prefer if he steered away from the tradition and did not compete at home...

NHK would depend on whether Shoma gets that or not, since they're in the same seeded group and wouldn't be able to meet there.

Yes I too was thinking that but it probably would in its turn depend on Yuzuru's plans - he is more likely or not to be there and hardly they would want 2 top Japanese skaters in the same event

How kind of Mika to remember that his fans love to hear from him (craving for news to be precise )

Message reads:

''How things are:
1. Feeling reinvigorated, full of energy and positive emotions
2. Have started preparations for the new competitive season
3. Studying
So all is good, I am alive and well ;)''

Thank you Mika :luv17:

Quite a lot to digest I must say!
Logistically would it not be easier to skip Lambiel and to stay with Raf longer and get done the SP there? 2 weeks seem to be too short time for achieving any meaningful result...
I am not too keen on Lambiel as a choreographer tbh though I did love him as a skater. Having said that last year was a trial for both, Lambiel had no say in a choice of music and he was actually correct in saying that Elvis was NOT a good fit for Mika (he expressed it tactfully but clearly nevertheless). So maybe now when they got to know each other better and Lambiel more involved the result will be better..
Anyway I am excited for Mika, that's one great summer is planned out for him!

I’m curious about what his music will be. He said well-known, in the classical style, with a character he has to embody that is different from his own.....is it an opera or ballet? Or maybe he means “character’ as in the overall feel of the piece. I’m so anxious to know!

If it matters to anything, I'd say it's less straining to stay in Europe than go overseas, especially if you think that California is on the other side of the US. But Misha might be making this decision very consciously. He knows what kind of work Lambiel does, compared to Raf, so maybe that's why he's going for two weeks only. In the coming seasons he might want to spend more time in the US, maybe not. Anything is better than nothing, though, so it's good he's going to expand his horizons.

I meant one trip is easier than two and getting used to place, jetlag etc will eat into those 2 weeks. i'd say one needs at least a month but maybe monetary consideration played a role too!

What do you think of some speculation that the Russian Fed was pushing Mika to go to Orser like permanently but Mika refused? I don't know what to think tbh

I am dying from curiosity as well! If he said more definite - classical I'd happy but 'in the classical style' is very vague and makes me suspicious hope to God it is not POTO or something like that!!!

I thought Carmen. It's well known, after all!

Oh god....now I’m picturing Misha skating to music of the night in full phantom costume, mask and all....

Well, maybe it would work out for Misha, but what do we know. I think it's been proven time and time again that he doesn't want to move out of SPb, though the fact that he wants to travel away to train under someone new it's promising. What might happen in a year or two we don't know.

On the music discussion, I'm ready for him to skate some warhorse, and I don't be surprised when it happens.

Nice news. So Misha spent his holydays in Tenerife, great choice! Nice place, so different and stunning landscapes, picturesque villages with beautiful traditional architecture etc. Excellent for breaking away and relax.
I like the fact that Lambiel will choreography SP. I think It can be a good option and can help Misha . Last season he did a great job didn’t he? I would like to see Deniss and Misha getting on well together. I like both but Misha is someone special for me as he is the reason why I engaged to the skating world. Then about his plans with Raf it looks really intelligent decision, but yes, only two weeks I don’t know, in any case is much better than nothing, at least he has moved ahead. Too sad what happened after SP in Olympics, nothing justifies people cruelty and lack of respect, but from that blow he has matured and has become stronger.
No idea about music choice, I would like to see something similar to Metallica “Anything else matters “, something modern rather than classical may be, I don’t know, he has to feel the music, that’s the most important. Any way I wish him my best.

My bet on the music would be Dance Macabre or In the Hall of the Mountain King, or even both;) Well, let's wait...
Nice to see he finally had a chance for the full rest near the sea, he totally deserved it! Wish him to have nice and productive midseason, to stay fit and to find what he is searching on during his trips!

Oh I hope not Dance Macabre - I absolutely hate the piece, have to mute all the programs even if I like the skaters like it was with C/L e.g.
We have so little to go on in our guess work and even what we have might be misleading- the interview with Flade was conducted in Russian and translated then, so this particular phrase: ''I can say that it will be a very well known, very powerful music and it is in the classical direction'' could have 'suffered' as a result. Mika might have meant classical outright but threw in 'direction' to make it a bit vague on purpose or it was translated that way. So crucially we do not know if is is a really classical piece or in classical direction/genre/style which is totally different. Oh Mika give us a little more please!

I have serious doubts the Fed would have considered sending Misha to Orser permanently - when and with whom have they done that? Zhenya switched to Orser on her own initiative and mainly with her own money, and the Fed was not exactly pleased. Misha doesn't have Zhenya's kind of income and the money is really tight in Russia's FS right now, they wouldn't finance training with Orser.

I have no doubts that the pressure on Mika to switch coaches intensified after what happened at the Oly Team Event. And his medal at Worlds probably only made it worse proving his potential once again.
Of course we'll never know what happened really but I will not be surprised at all if 2 weeks at Raf will turn into a longer period.
