Alina Zagitova

The Russian movie.... apparently it was a big scandal around this movie as some deputies didn't like how the tsar Nicholas II is depicted. :eeking:

Is Mathilda controversial or not age-approriate? I saw on another thread some criticism about giving it to a junior and I tot maybe the lyrics were not age-approriate or sthg.

It's all about the depiction of the emperor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matilda_(2017_film)#Controversy

One one hand, cultural budget in Russia is spent on a much cheaper crap on a regular basis; on the other hand, athletes should stay as far as possible from any political or religious controversies, as long as there are other topics to develop, so I hope Daniil will. Poking the idiots with a stick just doesn't worth it.

Wow, didn't expect pagan metal to emerge on this forum. Good to see that at least GS forum members have a better taste than most choreographers. :)

Though Alenka/Anna/Anastasiya will likely do with mysticism better than others.

Yeah, at least me and EdRoz are into it :)
As for Alina, Phantom of the Opera is a safe bet, but for the second program, but it would be nice to have something nontraditional (and yet no "experimental music").

I hope the last Nastya's SP will inspire Daniil to dig into such kind of music a bit deeper.

As for 'experimental music', for me it's an oxymoron. :)

Alenka Kostornaya already answered for this question today ))
Question- Is there really no image that you would like to show on the ice?
Why do not you choose the one that's right for you?
Alenka - Because everything has already been chosen 😂

It's not any voting in Eteri group

Of course, when I write "she will choose the music", I in fact mean "Eteri /Daniil will choose the music"

I've come to the conclusion that the best part of Alina's skating is not just the 3Lz-3Lo combination but her general ability to execute jumps with almost no preparation for them, which doesn't destroy the choreography and gives a feeling of completeness. I re-watched her Tiger Ex and was amazed how much transitions she did one after another without any stumble. Also, she stands out with a very specific type of skating that is rather rare on the senior circuit - although her skating skills are not perfect yet, there is some kind of a natural elegance and softness in her movements. She really moves like a cat

She's more of a sensual person, who won't speak about their feelings but I think she could incorporate them well in her skating if the music is right. They need a piece with some mystic vibes (like her EX) but not too lyrical, or something dramatic and frantic (Step seq in her SP). Maybe some asian music would be also suitable. I can totally imagine her skate to Yuzuru's Seimei or Satoko's Memoirs of a Geisha. But please no romantic music, she's too exotic for it. :roll5:

I agree with the first paragraph. On the second: why exotic people couldn't express love or romantic feelings? :)

I really liked what you wrote, you described Alina's style beautifully. :thank:

And I really like her intricate transitions and how she can jump "out of nowhere", with more time to spare to divide the elements in her program I hope we get to see more of her skating skills being showcased (and I feel she will develop them even more as she matures).

It's difficult to convert my thoughts into words but what I meant is that she is less likely to sell performance to a romantic/lyrical music perfectly. Because she's too playful for it. And I don't think that it is necessary to do because an abstract program, suiting her personality, will make her stand out from the rest. I will try to explain my idea with the following example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbiDe3Mrroc
Alina - the best execution of movements, great control of her blades, beautiful extensions and softness  however, in terms of interpretation it kind of leaves me cold, it just seems that her head (thoughts) is elsewhere, there's not really a connection to the music
Evgenia - rather simple choreo, but she is a great lyrical interpreter, she catches every musical accent and obviously enjoys skating to this music (and shows her enjoyment)
Kaetlyn - although she looks fit and is not the typical example for an ice princess, she has the maturity to express the softness of the song

I think the difference is obvious. Alina seems so genuine happy because the music matches her natural playfulness.

Also, this is not really a critic about her as a skater and a performer because she's good. Every skater has a different personality and can interpret different sorts of music. This leads to diversity in the sport which is great. And this is only my very subjective opinion
