2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

She’s landed it before...

...not sure why she never tried it in competition though. Coaching decision maybe :confused2:

That‘s great! I never considered her a potential quad candidate to be honest because her jumps always seemed rather smallish but if she decides to try them in competition: I‘m all for it!! :)

Russia FS Fed published the official medical conclusion on the full restoration of Medvedeva before the EuropChamp. EM treated injured foot three full months.

You know, I‘m not going to fight with you here because obviously you can‘t be reasoned with. Her team and her decided to skip the World Championship after the Olympic Games due to her injury still bothering her (how much we don‘t know for sure) and that‘s perfectly acceptable. Many, many athletes do that and no fed would ever use that as a reason to stop them from going to competitions the following season.

Missing post olympic worlds is not a big deal. Even if she could actually participate, through pain or not, it's the least important competition of the quad in my opinion. She delivered at the most important competition of the quad, who cares about Worlds.

Yeah and a lot of people also say that the moonlanding never took place and we‘re all secretly fooled by the American government... I‘d suggest not to listen too closely to what people say or don‘t say. Medvedeva‘s the epitome of ambitious. She loves skating. If anyone doesn‘t mind fighting, it‘s her.

I don't say the contrary, but I feel like she never had a serious opponent before Alina, and losing again against the same person who destroyed your Olympic dream might have been too much even for her.

This is a really funny discussion.

First, the problem was that Medvedeva got more media attention than the Gold medalist after the Olympics, accusing her of being selfish, arrogant, a dirty sportswoman who is not being able to give up her leadership spot etc. Well, she withdrew from the Wolrds Championships and suddenly the leadership responsibility was where it had to be - on the shoulders of Alina, just like everyone wanted. We all know what happened next. But of course, it was all Evgenia's fall - because the main attention was on whether she withdrew because of fear or because of the injury, accusing her in ridiculous things.

On the topic of the withdrew. I think Alina also showed that the Olympics were a great challenge both physically and mentally. She was so tired and empty at the WC and therefore came her result. So, imagine Medvedeva going trough this with an injury and physical pain. And please, come on. The injury is real - don't forget that even without the WC she wasn't allowed to jump up until recently. Do you still think she had to be there? I mean, everyone went mad and complained when Lipnitskaya skated injured at Rostelecom, or when also Evgenia skated on pain killers at the beginning of the season. And know people want the opposite?!??!

Why would Med skate at post Olympic WC with an injury? What would she gain from that if not further injury, smh.

I forgot Tursynbaeva had tried the quad in competition actually! I guess they didn’t keep trying because inconsistent + she had some injuries as well if I’m not mistaken. It’ll be interesting to see if Eteri has her go for it or not!

Exactly. I can‘t help but find it odd when people who are no hesistant at all to accept Alina‘s defeat at WC by telling she was tired and sick just a week before it are seriously calling Evgenia out on not skating (AGAIN) injured at the last competition in the season. I‘m not saying that these excuses for Alina are not justified because they are but that accusing Evgenia is simply unfair and a sign of being a hypocrite. Alina and Evgenia both are very young girls and the pressure on their shoulders is enormous. I doubt any of you has ever participated in any major event such as the Europeans, Worlds or let alone OG. So how on Earth are people seriously having the nerve to accuse any athlete of not taking part in the WC with a broken foot when said skater just achieved two OSM at the Olympic games? We all have no idea how hard that is, so judging them really feels wrong to me. Alina and Evgenia did nothing but their best to win for their country. Claiming anything else is nothing but a plain lie.

I have a feeling that if Medvedeva had realized that Russia might not be able to hold onto the three spots, she would have participated at worlds even through the injury. She probably didn't think it would have been such a close call, and it really shouldn't have been. Well, a part of that was also due to Russia playing games by sending Konstantinova instead of someone with the capability of getting a decent placement.

I think nobody would have thought that it was going be such a close call. Everyone expected Alina to be on the top of that podium so they just sent Konstantinova there without thinking that maybe, maybe Alina was a human being, too and there was a chance she could fail. Russia should have no problem whatsoever in finding a decent senior skater to replace Med who had chances to place in the top 10. There are dozens just waiting for their chance. Instead, they sent Konstantinova. Well, their fault then. Hope they learn from it.

Thank you. I compare them very often, maybe this is wrong but I use it just as part of my argumentation on some stuff because they are the leading ladies in the field. I hope that people don't see it as a bashing of the one skater or something, I do appreciate them both as skaters. And your words sum it up perfectly - they both did the best for themselves.

I agree. Also, still mad about Kostantinova going instead of Polina 😭

I'm honestly already ready for next season. To put worlds behind us and shift gears to the juniors.

I think these girls will get a first JGP next season:
1. Trusova
2. Kostornaya
3. Tarakanova
4. Shcherbakova
5. Kanysheva
6. Vasilieva
7. Sinitsyna

and they will battle it out for a second one.

More questions to consider:
Out of the following, who will move to seniors?
Options: Panenkova, Konstantinova, Gubanova, Samodurova, Nugumanova, Gulyakova

How will Sakhanovich and Gubanova look under their new coaches?

Hii, I'm sort of new around here, but won't Alena compete on the senior circuit next season? [emoji848]
