2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Courtney usually performs well in the GP and often brings home a medal. Last year, she didn't get a medal, but she did finish 4th at SC behind Ashley, a good result considering a brutal caller who slashed the TES of all the skaters except Osmond.

It won’t help. With out WR points and a higher SB, she’s at the mercy of other feds and USFS. Last year, she didn’t get a spot even though she got a medal at CoR. It’s her national placements that make USFS less likely to politic.

Why is 182 performing well?

Ting needs a coach first and foremost though

Is she coach-less right now??

I did wonder if she had anyone with her at Broadmoor. I guess not....

IMO, no one should get any guaranteed spots other than Bradie, Karen, and Mariah. Let everyone else prove themselves at summer competitions and senior Bs.

Just because you have a coach at a competition does not means they are actually your coach. It is not uncommon for a skater to pay a coach just to put them on at a competition.

If by often, you mean twice.

Looks like Amber has been skating well at pre-season competitions. Here’s one of her performances: https://youtu.be/snYaDInnKgI

Put her in the running for SA spot.

She is already there for me. I’m glad she decided to start early this year. Last year I was frustrated that she started so late in the season. I Always say it’s better get started earlier and skate several competition so you get used to being judged and can make tweaks before the actual season starts.

She has one good performance at a tiny competition where people cheer for any triple and she’s already in the running for SA over much more consistent skaters who scored better last season? To me that’s like saying that Courtney should get two spots for sure — not quite right

This happen last year with Bradie. Bradie didn’t have the scores to get a placement on the GP. She also had a low placement at nationals. Last summer she won three competitions with high scores including on of the monitored competitions, Broadmoor. After she won Philly International, that was four competitions in a row with a score ranging from 188-190. Above all other senior skaters. Amber will skate at Skate Detroit, if she wins again I’d say the spot is hers.

52 best girls of 2018 Nats - Russia, Japan, USA, Canada. Russia -18 of 18, Japan -24 of 24, USA - 6 of 20, Canada - 4 of 18. Champions and prize-winners of Canada, Japan, USA at the RusNats 2018 -

The main conclusion is that the Russian/Japanese teams develop the results in compact groups, not allowing lagging behind. USA left 70% and Canada 67.78% from # 53 to #80. The gap indicates a weak aggregate coaching staff in the field.

Konstantinova second result from JWC 2018 - a vivid example of what happens when the inflated Nats points do not meet ISU standards - minus 24.93.

I said she was in the running, not a lock for it. What other more consistent skaters are there for the host spot? Starr is good and I believe she is in the running as well but she can be hot and cold. Angela is just as inconsistent as anyone and Ting should probably stay on the JGP this season. (Or if she doesn’t... she’s still not exactly a bet on it type skater... though I love her) Amber has had nice scores at the last three club comps she’s done. This is what bradie did last year. If she keeps it up, I don’t see why she shouldn’t get the spot.

Ashley has announced she is sitting out the grand prix season, but is continuing to train everyday. no announcements on what the rest of her future might be.

REALLY hoping she shows at nationals and i'll get to see her live one more time

so great to see her put out a solid program. i counted 2 or 3 URs, but she has so much talent and potential and i really want to see her skate to that. i remember watching her at sectionals probably 5 ish years ago and her speed was just unreal. SO much power and HUGE jumps. she's just never really been able to put it together, but it would be awesome if she ended up with the SA spot.

YAY for Starr getting one of the SA picks. There's still at TBD so it will be interesting to see who else will be there. It's going to be a tough battle that's for sure...

Not looking good for the US ladies at all. 3 headcases at nhk trophy. And bradie is assigned to the toughest of them all, IdF.

Any word on whether Karen is seeing Gracie’s former Russian coach for jump help?

About Karen, yes. A skater at Center Ice (one of the rink’s Alex coaches at) confirmed she has been there since Monday and this is the third time she has come to see Alex.

I also was pretty sad to see Bradie at IDF. She was our best shot for GPF but getting on the podium at IDF will be pretty rough. That’s a worlds level field. She will do good to get on the podium at SkAm though. She can hopefully do well there. Fingers crossed.

Well I’m looking forward to seeing what happens with Bradie and Karen - both very different and very interesting skaters.

And I am thrilled that Gracie is training with Vincent and is returning for a GP - just crossing my fingers and wishing all the best for her! Given her feisty and irreverent Twitter commentary on Nats last January, I’m thinking we may see a very different Gracie out there this season - really hoping everything works out for her.

Thrilled at gracie coming back. Also heard Hannah Miller has been working on jump consistency. I think Hannah and Amber Glenn have what it takes.
