Thanks everyone for all the news and links.

Hmm... I wanted jazz when many wanted tango. I'm not sure where this falls.

What appeals to you about this music?

Have we seen enough to say whether this Bourne SP is sufficiently different from the LP from Chouinard/MFDubreil?

If so, who is doing choreo for his gala? Or are we getting Nemesis as the entire 2018-19 season gala?

Sounds like a combination of swing (Sing, Sing, Sing, anyone?) Latin and jazz. I also love brass bands.

Well ... the original Duke Ellington Caravan is jazz - though this version sounds quite different. I am not very familiar with Fanfare Ciocarlia - but from a google search they are ‘legends of gypsy brass’ and ‘are considered to be pioneers of the dance music genre, Balkan Beats’

More BFTE for 2018-19 gala? Another self-choreo program? I would think Nemesis is towards its end now.

Is it possible the Sam/Marie-France program is an ex program? I kinda have a hard time imagining a hip hop long program - if the program is even hip hop (maybe it’s not)

'Thanks for trusting MFD and me with your program' (paraphrasing S. Chouinard) makes it sound more like a competition program than a gala program to me. I hope Nathan takes that choreography course at Yale that bonita took the time to research for him, because as mood-inducing as BFTE was, it lacked the finer details about 'Stole the show' that made me love his skating.

If these music/program choices were made because it's his explorative, experimental year, then I hope he really gets into the character of the program. To me that would seem to require a lot more suppleness in his core posture than I see at the beginning of this clip. Granted, the program is less than a week old. And it could be because the axel is the first jumping pass that he's coming across all tense, but being able to release tension or at least not stiffly hold his shoulders too high for too long an interval would do wonders for this program IMHO.

Someone on twitter questioned whether he can sustain the showmanship to compensate for the monotony of the music (assuming there are no other cuts). What are your thoughts on that?

So interesting. So the vocal is more gypsy than Latin, this makes more sense now!

skfan - I’m not sure about the showmanship aspect/monotony of the music

My honest first reaction to hearing this music - it seems just okay to me. But Nathan could change my mind about it :)

Well, it's because the brief clips are intriguing that I came back to the thread in the first place. Sorry my posture and skating skills gripes keep coming to the fore. *wry grin*

I also didn't fall in love with the music on first listen, and that dampens my enthusiasm for the program, although that leap from Ms. Willner's IG--beautiful leg line, just gorgeous.

I did have some concerns that this year's SP and LP will both resemble Nemesis too much and suffer unflattering comparison to Nemesis. But being compared to Nemesis and found wanting is... well... that's the probable fate of most programs from here on, even if Nathan went for a classical or balletic program (in my dreams, LOL), since Nemesis set the bar so high.

It was very kind of amber.sk8 to include in one of her shared clips a very nice 3a. I like the flow out of that 3a very much. Hopefully his 3a is on the way to becoming as steady and reliable as his 4t. *fingers crossed*

^^Shae did the short confirmed.
will Nathan add 4loop in his free next season. the first 3loop did in the Carolinaiceplace clip posted by Nathan's most famous Japanese fan has some extra height to it.

Look at my username and you'll understand why am I so excited! I'm rooting for Nathan's 4Lo!
Will he still try to execute as many quads as possible with the new rules?I also would like him to concentrate on GOEs

The new music is... well, it's not as unusual as Nemesis but it's unusual for Nathan! He hasn't skated to anything like that in 2 years or more (he didn't use such music even in his junior years).

That video may be taken at only a week ( or more shorter) ago, so everything will be gone more synchronize with him at time goes by.😉 And about the music choice, It is very unusual music for me (also Nathan). But Nemesis raised everyone’s standard, so tried totally different program seems to be good attempts.
He never did this type of program - and it will be fun to watch new aspect of Nathan.🙂

+) Happy to see his 4loop again! I watched in person at Japan Open, and it became one of the favorite jumps for me❣️Nice flow and Solid 4loop! Missed so much.. maybe this season he tried 4loop (just guessing)

so every summer nathan lets his hair go crazy, why?

He seems to just like it that way and he's allowed a little bit of rebellion over the summer.

Did I miss the video of Nathan practicing the 4Lo again??
No, just 3Lo. But maybe people are speculating because 3Lo isn't one of his favorite jumps to practice?

@besti loop it maybe Nathan is just practicing 3loop jump, to get his rotation axis/feel right. Nathan does quite a lot of 3loops in practice as basic drills. but like you, I would be over the moon if Nathan includes the 4loop in his free.:love: The first 3loop has abit more extra air-time/height than the second one.

about the Fanfare Ciocărlia Caravan music for new short, I have never heard it. upon first hearing on Youtube, I like it, it makes me upbeat and happy, very jazzy feel and dancy.
then read @oatmella's post and did some quick googling about the music, a couple of key word, gypsy, never used sheet music (kinda Nathan ahaha), brass band etc.
I think it is very different from Nemesis, which is soulful, explosive with a touch of cool elegance, piano and vocal.

@skfan as for monotony, I think Nathan's self-choreoed EX especially BFTE has this issue (by the way, BFTE is really a long monotone song about 4 min, a short is just about 2min). A gypsy jazzy song in nature is monotony(and random), but layered/varied choreo could make it interesting and as a short program, it is easier to do.

by the way Fanfare Ciocărlia seems has a Jame Bond Song:biggrin: but I like Caravan better:biggrin:

Anyways, I think @oatmella wanted jazzy, Nathan give you jazzy, and many fans wanted dancy here, Nathan give you dancy:luv17::biggrin:

Seems every skater boi, needs to do a funny jazzy number in their career, now it is Nathan Boi's time. also of this Genre, I do think Nathan picked one great song (and not your typical jazz), and seems nobody else has used it.

seems like Caravan has lyric in the second half, although I donot understand it
here is google lyrics

Night and stars above that @shine so bright
The myst'ry of their fading light
That shines upon our caravan
Sleep upon my shoulder as we creep
Across the sand so I may keep
The mem'ry of our caravan
This is so exciting
You are so inviting
Resting in my arms
As I thrill to the magic charms
Of you beside me here beneath the blue
My dream of love is coming true
Within our desert caravan :luv17::love: @oatmella @Mamamiia #roadtriptosunvalley :biggrin:

Goodbye Nemesis, hello Caravan!

I’m guessing blue for short program costume - if he even has a costume :). Maybe he will just be skating in black again.
