2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

:rolleye: We have. About both the flip and Lutz, in fact. It's not us being selective.

https://goldenskate.com/forum/showt...dies-skating&p=2123337&viewfull=1#post2123337

Ok, I agree that you are not selective here. One thing, though, is that her current lutz technique has little to do with her working on lip: I picked on it long time ago, in the fall of 2014. It's being the same all the way through: deep, I would even say very deep outside edge during the curve but then going inside at the very last moment - in fact it's similar to Scherbakova. Both definitely do not have Yuna Kim / Elizaveta Tuktamysheva lutz technique. But it is not as bad as Medvedeva/Osmond.

Please excuse the :hijacked:

Seeing all this bickering and battling over semantics has me wondering why I’ve posted for so many years in this thread and others like it. It certainly wasn’t to be right about technical details or to prove one skater was better than another. I’m sorry...I don’t follow them because they are Russian either. So why? Why have I spent so many hours following and rooting on skaters from half across the globe in one of the most underappreciated sports? Skaters I likely will never see in person. Why do I feel knots in my stomach for Anastasia Gubanova as she takes the ice and heads into her jumps? Why the tears of pride when Sima bounces back from what seemed was the brink of retirement?

Ya see...there was a tiny girl from the Ural Mountains who fought against huge odds and made it to the Olympics despite what many people thought about her or her chances. Both at home and abroad she faced criticism and doubt. She made a fan out of me and I followed her all the way up to the Olympics where she became somewhat of a hero to people. I’ve never turned my back on this skater and I support her to this day. The thing is...along the way I’ve discovered so many talented ladies who are putting in work and who have earned my respect. More talent than one country can feasibly handle based on how the sport is set up. They all need our support and certainly deserve our respect.

So the thing that makes me follow this thread and the ladies of Russian Skating isn’t just to support the top skaters in the world. It’s to experience the moments...both good and bad. To be inspired. The highs and the lows of some of the most talented and exceptionally motivated athletes I’ve ever seen.

Sorry for the rant :o:

I just wanted to explore what it is that drew me to not only follow Yulia but what it is that kept my interest in the state of Russian Ladies skating. I think I just needed to type it out for myself to find that answer. It’s not the success of the athletes although that is very fun and inspiring at times. What kept me here during the failures and down times? It’s simple. It’s just all the moments that we get to see unfold along the way..

I’ll conclude my 15,000th post at GS with a link that far better sums up what I’m trying to say :)

I don't understand why Daria has two spots but Sofia only has the one? And she won both of her JGPs last year???

I'm also slightly confused as to why Elena and Elizaveta have two spots each.. they've been lagging behind for the past few seasons now and hardly ever make it on to the podium anymore...

Darla has a higher SB score is in the top 24 (#22 - 196.55), so she was already guaranteed 1. Sofia won both her JGPs but her scores were lower (her SB is 192.19, #29) and I don't think she was guaranteed any since she didn't medal at JGPF.

Elena and Liza also were on the top 24 list at 13th and 21st respectively, so they were also guaranteed one and would easily be high up for 2.

So if you read that you would know that I was stuck in bed which meant that I had a lot of free time which is when I watched lots of competitions as I wanted to find skaters to root for. I found Turnsynbaeva's story quite interesting especially once I found out Zhenya was moving to Orser as Tursynbaeva did a similar thing and read through lots of interviews to try to get a feel for how Orser would deal with Zhenya because initially I was very skeptical about the move though now I am definitely pro the move because Orser is the only coach who isn't a downgrade from Eteri in my opinion. Basically to surmise I had a lot of free time and most of the stuff I referenced to is what I seen in interviews, her fanfest and none of the stuff I have said is not in the public domain though I will admit that I do as an english student read into things to draw my own conclusions and bring together fragments from different stuff to form a greater picture but I know that I don't know everything as I haven't been following skating for that long.

A bit off-topic here, but as an English student, do you think you could apply some more studying to punctuation, so that rather than spraying walls of text without commas to break up compound sentences and introductory clauses, you could compose more comprehensible posts that are easier for the rest of us to read? Your thoughts are wonderful, but your expression of them is painful to read. Thanks! :agree:

Dear Golden Skaters,

You must keep political references out of your posts. Golden Skate is not a political forum and, thus, references to politics and political leaders are not allowed. Please consider that we have posters from many countries and political bents and what is funny or satirical to you might not translate well. Think before you post, please.

Furthermore, references to Kaetlyn Osmond, other than in passing, have no place in the Russian Ladies thread. She is not a Russian Lady and, as far as we know, has no place to emigrate. There are plenty of talented and wonderful Russian Ladies to talk about without bringing Osmond into it.

If your post disappeared please consider that it might be because you quoted a post that was moderated. If you quote a post that is later moderated your post will also disappear.
You will receive a warning or infraction in your inbox if you violated the rules of the forum.

Please remember the board policy on linking to videos of certain YouTubers

Lastly, please post in English. You may, of course, post in another language if you provide a translation. Real friends don't make other friends use google translate.

Thank you.

Panenkova was part of the Top 24 Season Best Scoress. Making this list along with top 24 WS is what matters to be guaranteed an invitation and basically almost whoever makes the list ends up with 2 events. Medalling at the JGP is irrelevant if your scores are still low by the end othe season.

So while Sofia had some podium finishes in the end her scores are still below both Radio and Tuk who despite not being the top russians anymore are still among the top 24 best and keep getting events in the circuit.

Honestly, I realize while I'm not a Russian ladies fan, at least probably by some people's consideration, that the wealth of talent of the lovely Russian ladies given me a lot of moments, as you said, that I actually enjoyed over the years and when I watch them now, I still enjoy in spite of the entirety of their career.

I think on the top of my head here are the Russian Ladies programs I enjoyed:

I find it funny we had pages of Sherbakova's technique discussion even before her international debut. Looks like people expect her to make a serious impact

I think it has more to do with people talking about her perfect jumping technique which in fact isn't perfect.

Anyone who is known to jump a 4Lz in combo shoud be expected to make a serious impact, I guess. Adding to that her grace on the ice, yep, people are definitely right in fearing her. Tiny but dangerous!

I agree that people should talk about her jumps and any skaters jumps but I don't agree that anyone said that her technique is perfect.

Well, there are plenty of juniors whoes jumping technique isn't perfect and who never been to any international competition, but we are discussing Anna Sherbakova's lutz here as if she is two-time world champion

Personally I never knew Anna Shcherbakova until I started reading this forum, and I agree with ejnsofi that the reason why I, myself, have looked at her technique more closely than I did with other Juniors was because she was hailed as pretty much perfect a lot on here, which naturally makes people want to see what the fuss is all about.

That's not to say that Anna doesn't have great qualities, and I look forwards to seeing how she will evolve next year, hoping she gets JGP assignments :)

As far as I remember, she did enough last season to get JPG assignments (at least one of them). I'm curious will she try any quads.
