... I noticed that he had Deloitte and Wintrust hashtags in his IG post yesterday. Both companies sponsored him last season, but maybe those sponsorships are continuing. ...

I believe Froozer is also still sponsoring Jason. He has mentioned them at least once since being at the TCC.

I suspect that Deloitte and Wintrust are/were able to give decidedly more monetary support to Jason than Froozer can.

[I could be wrong, but Froozer seems to be a start-up (or not much further along than that), and it seems to have signed up a lot of OTC/Team USA athletes (from a variety of sports) for its "fledgling" (AFAIK) promotional efforts.
But every little bit counts. Happy for Jason to have as many sponsors as possible.]

The part I did not state is there could be political reasons for not releasing the funds. Cos that would sound too conspiratory for you guys.
Not necessarily lack of budget. Not necessarily issue with ISU either.
Just the internal politicking is enough.

For Boyang's sake, I hope this is not the case.

I intentionally phrased it as "came into question" rather than "couldn't afford it" for that reason. I don't think that's a conspiracy theory at all, but I am hoping it isn't the case also. I love speculating, but there's a lot going on that we don't know. We thought there would be a Cup of China a few months ago.

From what's online, Deloitte seems to have a strong relationship with the USOC, so I definitely see that being the case.

Yes, Boyang is funded by his fed. I don't know why people think this means he has zero say in his own destiny. He is their top and only competitive male skater. Sure, the fed could just pull funding - as it appears they did to Han Yan, and others - but if they cut him loose, they have no one. Maybe they could threaten to pull funding if he disagrees with something they want him to do, but he could probably call their bluff on that if it really came down to that.

It doesn't do anyone any good to force him to go to Canada if he really strongly doesn't want to go, as the whole point is for him to thrive and improve. This is all for him and his ability to get his country medals. The idea that he wants to go, his coaches want him to go, Orser wants him to go, but only some shadowy fed conspiracy is keeping him from doing so is far-fetched and, as far as I can tell, not based on anything, rumor or otherwise. Have there been "insiders" claiming this is some kind of conspiracy?

you mean if they aren't considerate of his opinions, it won't benefit either fed nor Boyang, which then would leave Chinese men skating to no-one, so they wouldn't do it? Hmm, let's see, doesn't it sound familiar .. isn't that exactly what happened with Zijun? she didn't want to go to the coach she was assigned to, her relationship with the fed got sour, and it turned out now Chinese ladies skating doesn't look so bright. So how did the fed managed that? not so well ...

so, I'm sorry, but I'll continue to assume that Boyang has absolutely no say in his coaches choices.

While I'm not sure how much of a say Boyang has, I'm not sure the comparison with Zijun there really.... works. I don't mean to belittle her or downplay her achievements, but she wasn't a world medalist and not exactly a potential Olympic medalist either. CSA would lose a lot more with Boyang jumping ship then they did with Zijun, harsh as that sounds.

that may be true but at that time Zijun was the star of Chinese singles skating. And they had great hopes for her to be on the podium at worlds, too. And while Zijun never won world bronze, the way they didn't consider her opinion at all shows the kind of attitude of them towards their most talented and hopefuls, even if it's to the disadvantage to all parties involved.

If the Chinese fed/government has a policy of maintaining final say over its athletes, they'd prioritize that over a single Olympic medal. You give an inch to one guy, you're letting everybody know that they can call their own shots if they get big enough.

Boyang and his friends supposedly liked some posts about athletes choosing their own choices. Just saying.

On weibo? Well if he doesn't want to go, he shouldn't be forced to. A change from China to Canada is a really big change. Cultural wise especially...even if there is a big Chinese population in Toronto. I can't imagine being forced to move....

Yuzuru, did you bring the hot weather back with you?

Thrilled to see him back! Brian is away in Spain for Javi's camp this week. Tracy is slated to be teaching there next week, but no idea if she's headed out early to have a break before heavy duty training continues. Ghislain is listed as a summer coach. as well as Paige, so Yuzuru may start working with them first as he gets acclimated again.

Since Boyang isn't there, perhaps Jason will end up becoming one of Yuzuru's primary training mates, or if they'll keep that space free for Boyang and/or Javi (I'm assuming J will come later than in other years, but still will spend some time at the TCC training before the JO/Challengers/Euros). Or maybe the coaching staff may decide to do something else. I'm sure the skaters' dynamic physical and emotional needs will be taken into account, whatever is decided.

Note, I'm basing the pairing idea on Shingo's interview, in which he mentioned he was paired with Junhwan and each got concentrated time with Brian that way. No guarantee of course that's what will be done for everyone this season. Finally, unless things have changed, Yuzuru should be at the stroking classes and other group classes relevant to him. Hopefully someone will once again take a clip, since there are old clips with Yuzuru in stroking classes and group workshops.

I hope he and the rest of Team Cricket have a productive and fun summer training season! :luv17:

Or he wants to said the contrary, that he wants to go or is not allowed... I remember an article that recently appears, you can read people. So is a little pointless to made assumptions on likes on social media.:confused2:

A few years ago Brian did an interview in which he described his typical day at TCC and it included specific times when he worked individually with Yuzu and individually with Javi. I can't imagine either of those two having to compete for concentrated coaching time from him.

And if Boyang ends up not coming to TCC, that could be a major plus for Jason in terms of coaching.

I'm only stating my opinion on if that is what is really going on. And you're right we should wait until official statements are made. But this is all discussions. I hope none of these rumors are true.

Actually the girl that posted the picture, also has a picture with Borser and Tracy in her story. So is probably that he is still in Toronto.

Actually Brian himself said that his top skater rarely interact. He said that unless there were in a general stroking class, interaction will be minimal. Surely you can find the interview, it was a recent one probably after Evgenia confirmed her moving.
