I feel a bit sad about it tbh. Considering the current situation in China I pray that it won't affect Boyang's skating career in a negative way. He's such a talented and warmhearted guy. Wish him all the best
I kinda raise my brow when reading the part about "living in foreign country where you have to live with racism day to day."
Anyway, until Brian or China Fed made an official statement about Boyang's status I will still think he is going. It is still early July now (When the first time Javi joined Borser he arrived there by the end of July).

Is there any racism report in Toronto? I thought that Yuzuru just choose to dedicate to study and skating because he feels is his duty, nothing to do with the city and their people...

My friendly advice is not to post that persons translations , they are often inaccurate and she tends to put her own words in other peoples mouth. I have been checking articles she has been sharing for a while and decided to unfollow her, because most of the time she messes facts with her own imagination.

I live near Toronto, and it’s probably one of the most diverse places in Canada. I’m fairly sure they have a higher percentage of minorities than not, and it’s a very accepting place. So worries of racism are a tad bogus imo...

While Canada in general, including Toronto, is not not absolutely free of racism, I find that an unexpected comment...especially as Toronto holds its multiethnic identity as a key value.
Asians (Chinese, Vietnamese and South Asians) are a very large part of Toronto's population, especially in the northern suburbs. The Japanese community is smaller however.
In terms of Boyang, I keep wondering why anyone would expect the Chinese authorities to make any formal announcements or make changes to official lists of coaches prior to his having long term visa in place.
Chinese authorities will want show that they respect the right/responsibility of Canadian authorities to grant visas, and not presume it by announcing things prematurely.
The team training in Montreal likely has a short term visa, and the official list of skaters and coaches won't be updated for them either until Canadian government authorities grant a long term visa.
This. There's a huge Chinese population in Toronto. It's probably the most multicultural city in Canada. As a non-white person in a Western city he certainly might encounter some racism still, but I doubt it would be a huge issue on a daily basis or that it would be a major factor in Boyang not going. I would believe more that he just might not want to move so far away from home, friends and family and live in a foreign country where he mostly doesn't speak the language (outside of said large Chinese population).

As for Boyang's situation, I think we are more panicked because of what TSL said, and are trying to find patterns where there might not be any. I agree, we should just wait.

Same here. I think it is not nice of me to talk about another person on another platform. But this is a persistent issue and there are many people already complained about the way this person twisted meaning in her translation along with inserting her own “subjective” comments.
I am sure Toronto is fine and there is no such thing as racism issue against Asian skaters coming to TCC at the moment.

When you give your opinion, you usually say 'I think', 'I believe', 'imho'. You don't make blanket statements as if they're facts and then cry it was just an opinion when people call you out on it. As a translator who has a big following, she should really be more responsible on how she words her 'opinions' and gives context to her translations.
Anyway, we know as much about Boyang's situation today as we did yesterday: nothing.

Me too, what the ...? People are really getting bitter and disrespectful over a rumour. We are talking about Canada here guys, one of the most multicultural countries in the world. As a non-Canadian, I have lived there for five years and I did not experience racism once let alone day to day. It's good to refrain from making such general assumptions about a country or nation if we have not been there ourselves.

This trend definitely won’t last, but we have two TCC photos from Yuzu and none from Zhenya, Jason or any of the TCC friends in the last two days. What’s this about Yuzu and social media bans again?! He’s the only one giving content!

The ban is about posting about other skater without their permission. Because last year a skater (a no name) was filtering information about skaters in weibo.
That is understandable! But I was trying to keep it light and joking!

I've lived in Toronto since the 1990s, and I can say it's mostly a very diverse and welcoming place, especially when you compare it to most of North America. What people have said above regarding demographics and attitudes above is true in my experience. Moving here after having grown up in the US in communities that were nearly all white, was a profound change, but although I missed my relatives and hometown strongly for several years, I am very, very glad I live here. To me interracial couples, foreign languages from all over the world being spoken around me, diverse workplaces, city publications published in many languages, are all the norm now, and I think that is a very good thing.
At the same time I don't want to paint it as an absolute Utopia (again as others have said upthread), so it wouldn't surprise me if non-white skaters in Toronto and the GTA (whether Canadian or not) have experienced some racist microagressions or possibly even worse. But it also wouldn't be surprise me if visiting skaters, with the able help of the staff of TCC and its larger community, had avoided them almost completely.
So if Boyang came here, he should find it relatively easy to find Mandarin- and Cantonese-speaking communities and media in multiple parts of the GTA, though if he speaks a particular dialect of one or the other, he might find it easier or harder to find a particular community of speakers. Even if he was living in a neighbourhood that itself wasn't heavily Chinese-Canadian, if he was near transit, or had a car, he could access the many shops and even malls catering to people of East Asian heritage. And if he ran into any problems in the city, I'd have him contact the office of someone like councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, who is an excellent local advocate. I suspect Boyang would run into either very little or no racism during his stay, unless he was unlucky. I think he’d have at least a caring international community of skaters around him as well as active Chinese-Canadian communities, who would support him, make him feel welcome, and advocate for him if the need arose. And I think most Torontonians would treat him respectfully.

I hope one day discrimination (all forms) will disappear... but in the meantime, Canada, especially large cities, is a land of multiculturalism and usually openness.

Maybe he doesn't want to leave home where he feels comfortable within his family and locality. Then, if that's the case, it's his choice and we need to respect that and drop the TCC subject. It could have been a very hard decision for him to make and I hope people will not bring that topic up to him all the time in interviews or competitions...
I believe Jin would have improved a lot in skating skills in Toronto. Though, looking at Han Yan, learning how to skate is also available in China.
Whatever happens, I wish him good luck... can we get back to bagged milk now?
