^^I don't think that they know. I believe all they know is photo that was sent to them which original was from Montreal rink.

They know as much as we do(n't). If Fluffy's there, they have to be working on choreo. I doubt she would stay there if he's only working on SS. They're clueless too about WHEN he's coming to Alex. I wonder if maybe they (Sho's team) honestly didn't know the time table, because they didn't know how long the choreo would take. It's a quick 2 hour flight from Montreal to Chicago, so that part of it is no big deal. Originally, they were thinking he would try to come twice (once in July and once in August, per Alex). They were having a hard time picking the dates because Shomita is so busy, as is Alex. In the next week or so, some of Alex's students will compete at Skate Milwaukee and Skate Detroit. I assume Alex would go to those competitions. So the scheduling starts to get complicated.

What they said about Karen Chen makes no sense to me. They made it sound like she was switching to Alex and he would get her in shape. She was here for (I think) around 2 weeks but went home last Thursday. So did she just do a short training "stint" or is she coming back to work with him as her coach or just another few weeks training? It's not clear. Another teaser.

Bottom line -- more questions, no answers, unless I am misunderstanding what was said, and that's after listening three times. I had to laugh about what they said about Alex's off-ice training. I think we've all seen those crazy videos where Sho is doing hand stands, weird jumping things on land, etc. It's really tough. Plus they do a lot of jogging with that -- as much as 6? 8? miles, I think.

I think we know as much from what J & J said on their facebook post than TSL. Karen is currently in NY for champs week and show at Westchester this week. Probably she just got jump training from Alex, like Shoma, not changing coaches??

^^^I tend to agree. I don't think she's switching to him, but they worded what they said in a very tricky way that made me kind of annoyed. Sorry for hijacking the Prince's thread. :hijacked: :otopic: :sad4:

 Living up to his name of His Royal Hotness. He should carry a fan with him wherever he goes. I still LOVE that costume on him!

So the physical therapist made trip to Montreal as did when went to Toronto for choreo? I wonder if they are working on same movement he learned there when he had to stretch before and after training sessions

I think he goes everywhere with him now. He was in Chicago with him last summer. If I remember right, he was in that video where they were at Game Works.

Yeah, either Demi-san or Eri-san will accompany Shoma whenever he goes for training, shows and comps nowadays.

My understanding of what dave said is that he at some point talked to Alex about Karen and he must’ve told them that Shoma is coming for training but when is not specified. But I agree that something is going on with the scheduling that is a bit unexpected. Maybe they didn’t think Shoma will be this busy after the olympic?

there was copyright claim on Wolfie's video with stairway to heaven on youtube. I wonder if that will happen again during season with videos of his sp

IIRC it was originally announced that Shoma would spend 3 weeks in North America (in Canada and US) training in summer. I guess that I assumed 1 week with Romain and 2 weeks with Alex or maybe it is vice versa

I am not sure about other federations but Japan's top skaters usually have a physical therapist/trainer with them. I know Dai had the same one for years
who traveled with Dai and his team to all of his competitions and he really needed him after his knee injury.

I remember reading that when Jeremy Abbot was competing at a competition with Dai and Jeremy was suffering from back problems
he saw Dai stretching with this trainer and said that he wished that he had a trainer to help him.

I would expect that Dai had PT especially because I think his surgery was considered innovative (in orthopedic medicine) at the time

During off-season, I like to remember some of my favorite quotes people have said about Shoma. It cheers me up! I narrowed it down to 10 from 110, but it was really hard!

--He skates like it's the last skate of his life each time, and his coach has the same enthusiasm every time. (Jonathan Beyer)

--He was such a cute kid. He is still a gentle kid with a cute personality, but he turned into a young boy and now he's a beautiful young adult. I think everything about him is growing steadily in a great direction. (Coach Yamada)

--He is completely well dressed. He has the best knees. He is the best skater after Patrick Chan, and he has guts. (Doug Haw)

--Even though he's a small guy, he's got strength in his legs. Look at those thighs. (BESP guys)

--Mystery words. What exactly IS she saying? She always knows how to help him stay calm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_CoYMxlMkY Bonus -- THE coat. (Coach Fluffy)

--Look at those skating skills. Look at that core -- so solid. Even with the quad flip, it's still the skating skills and musicality that catch your attention the most...He is like a nuclear blast -- small but powerful. With his ability to take his body off axis left and right, he is a bit of a magician...That young lad just speaks skating. And his intricacies with the blade and the manipulation of how he turns left and right and changes directions. His concentration going down through the leg into the blade is kinda like Scott Hamilton -- he's never not talking to the blade. (Kurt Browning)

--He's a wonderful skater and an attractive looking guy. He's such a great guy, I can't say enough about him. He's super. (Chris Howarth)

--I think Shoma grew up with my mother and father giving him a lot of love. (Itsuki)

--Sometimes you get people you really like, and you are entirely happy to help them. Even if we don't speak English, his personality is such that even if you are in a bad mood, he puts you in a better mood. He is bright, like good weather. (Alex Ouriashev)

--The other day, he came up to me and Scott and said "Please give me skating advice", but there's hardly any other skaters out there with such beautiful skating, his skating technique is superb. He has such outstanding skating skills that there wasn't really anything for us to advise him on. So I replied to him "We'd like to learn skating from you." (Tessa Virtue)
