2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

"I love Alena and I don't mind Eteri-style busy footwork, but moves like this are just too much",
"No one's asking her to change her identity either. Suggesting something different and something that could be better"
- fresh variations on the theme of backloading.

I think its perfect right now. I wish she will keep this moves.
it's new and fresh and couldn't be done any better.
this one is one of my favourite moves of Alena :devil:

:ddevil: umm...... let’s think on that for a second

They used to say that Yulia never held out her positions and she could be better. I’m like..no..that was sweet. Let her be herself.

ETA: Actualy here is an even more old school and way more boss version of the controversial Alena spiral;)

It's funny and really unfair, how people compare someone's 3A with +5GOE and Trusova's 4S with -5GOE. Why don't compare two CLEAN jumps with each other? How do you know, that Sasha will mess up with her jumps? It will be funny, if Trusova will jump all her quads with +GOE and your imaginary junior with 3A will mess up.

I don't mind a lot of footwork and I dislike it when programs feel very empty, but I do think that steps and choreo moves need to have a purpose in the program. This move by Alena obviously shows thay she is talented but I didn't necessarily love it either because I didn't see its purpose in the program. I think balance is key :)

I think that their team is aware that the girls don't easily connect with the music and the performance, that's why they give them those "stories" behind the choreography, so that they could understand and perform it. Take as an example Tarakanova - her SP was about her fighting with her dad and she very well transformed those emotions.

Because we compare how it would work in competition.
So far, Sasha landed her quads only once in competition with positive GOE.
So yes, if there is a skater with consistently clean 3A and consistent everything else (unlike Kihira), this skater will easily beat Sasha's last season layout in 3 out of 4 competitions based on Sasha's current abilities.

TBH, Kostornaia can beat Sasha even without 3A if Sasha desn't land clean and rotated.

You know it's the offseason when people are arguing over Alena Kostornaya, whom everyone seemed to love during the season...

Well, your statement really doesn‘t make sense. We were saying: „If Trusova doesn‘t land her quads and Kostornaya lands her 3A, it‘ll be worth more.“ We didn‘t say „Alena‘s 3A‘s going to be worth more because Sasha‘s going to mess up.“ It was a hypothetical statement and of course none of us knows who‘s going to land their jumps next season. And it‘s not that wrong to assume Sasha‘ll have problems with her quads at least at the beginning of the season because 1) they are insanely difficult and 2) she only landed them once with positive GOE. And we did compare two clean jumps. If Sasha lands her quads and Alena her 3A, Sasha‘s going to win. Without a doubt. And what imaginary junior? Alena‘s hardly imaginary, being only behind Sasha all last season.

I haven't seen such a skater yet, have you?

We've seen in this season "clean Alena no 3a vs Sasha who didn't land clean and rotated 4s" - Sasha won :p
Even without any quads Sasha's layout had higher bv.

Well, I think Alena's also going for 3Lz-3Lo. If she had had that at the JGPF, that would have given her the gold over Trusova.

I don't like the move. It's like it highlights a lack of flexibility... And the leg with the arm support looks very heavy and awkward. It's by far my least favorite thing that Alena did last season.

We saw Sasha falling from 4S several times, yet she still won EVERYTHING in this season internationally. Why? Because instead of quads, she has in her arsenal 3LZ-3LO, 3LZ-3TOE , 3F-1LO-3S, 3F-3LO. Who has ever had ALL those elements in two performance? NO ONE. Also Sasha was only one skater this season who was doing Ultra-C elements in the regular way (well Kihira too, but her main rival now is Zagitova and entire senior field), so when it comes to "stability with ultra-C elements" in the next season, Sasha is main contender. Also stability with 3A (according to Kihira's last performance in JWC) is almost as hard as with quads.

So like, just a reminder, this all started when someone said "NO WAY A 3A CAN BEAT A QUAD!!!!"
We brought some examples.
And now you are all upset

Guys, deal with it, a clean 3A beats a messy quad easily. If you do not believe it, open the scale of values sheet and do the math yourself.

I don‘t even get what everyone‘s upset about. It‘s not like we deliberately told Sasha‘s going to lose to Alena next season. (Which my feeling tells me isn‘t going to happen anyway...) just that Alena could theoretically beat Sasha by having a clean, stable 3A if Sasha doesn’t land her quads. Which I guess was Eteri‘s plan anyway. Making sure they (Anna, Alena, Sasha) had only the other two Eteri girls as threat and not anybody else. I guess she‘s aiming for a Russian podium sweep in every major competition.

Also deal with it -A Clean Quad will destroy a messy 3A, like Sasha destroyed Kihira with almost 30 points 😜😜.

An only question is, in what order will they take the pedestal 🤣🤣. Alexandra, Alena, Anna. It's "The A" in every way.
