Boston was indeed difficult. I also couldn't re-watch it. And honestly I was nervous how Yuzuru's FS would go last Pyengchang Olympics because of Boston, but thankfully he pulled through. :pray:

Wow, this is very interesting chart, thank you for posting. Yes, it is the comparison of effect on economy during Olympic games and WC, and the Olympics won in total.

Olympic game

sporting goods (especially shoes)
book (Yuzuru Hanyu related were exceptional)
travel and tourism industry

WC

beer
delivery pizza
TV rating (since 1988)

The Sendai Parade itself probably made a lot of revenue.
Plus his Photo exhibits all over Japan contributed to the spending on his merchendise.
And I have to add the number of international fans buying his merch online.
Top it off with people who went for everything just to see him in FaOI after being fans after the olympic games. (I plead guilty on this one)

To be honest I'm pretty sure each of those tough times has changed me as a fan :unsure:.

I've been organizing my saved videos (I'm the type who saves everything since I worry things will get taken down online) since I got a new hard drive so lately I've been going roughly in chronological order through news clips, shows, and performances starting from when I became a Yuzu fan during Sochi and it's been quite nostalgic and difficult. Let's just say that re-watching some of these videos really brings home how far Yuzu has gone on this journey and how hard it was. It's a strange thought that I've been following his skating for 4 years now, and sometimes I can't quite wrap my head around it. I'm only part way through 2014/2015 in organizing videos but some quick things I've noticed:

- The number or reporters at Media Day in 2014 seems a lot less than the mania that happened in 2017, although it was right before the Olympics.
- There are people that I didn't recognize in these media day videos from 2014 that I now do, like the harness specialist.
- Yuzu did A LOT of shows in the summer of 2014, I currently count at least 7 different shows and I don't think I even got to all of them. I'm glad he hasn't taken on that much of a load in the summer since then.
- The tough competitions are still tough to watch, I tend to skim over these just to verify which season folder they need to go in. It was hard re-watching the interviews from 2014 NHK Trophy, this is one competition I can't really bring myself to rewatch along with Boston.
- To end it on a much less depressing note, there are also a ton of cute moments I had completely forgotten about from ice shows and other things, such as Yuzu eating tamago kake gohan in bliss.

As you say, Yuzuru did many shows and had over 40 shows in 2014 if I remember correctly, it was good for him to perform only in CiONTU, H&F, and FaOI this year. (I don't know if he was not injured though)

There are some performances that I tend not to watch and I almost agree with everyone's, but I myself also add FS in SA 2013. I had never seen his sad face like that (at that time). Looking back, I know it became a learning experience for him but I can not watch his actual performance even now.

My worst experience as a fan was seeing him bloodied in the 2014 Cup of China and then insisting on skating despite his condition. I remember posting then that his decision to skate was incredibly brave or incredibly foolish depending on how you look at it.

And then there is Yuzuru himself. He makes the journey with him so very much worth it with his gallant, never-say- die spirit. The beautiful, the exhilarating moments far outweigh the bad ones. With Yuzuru, defeats and injury summon the fighter in him. And really, that's the best approach not just in skating but in facing life's challenges.

Totally agree with you. To be able to witness his journey is something special.
There are not many people who enjoy overcoming hardship, failure and adversity but Yuzu is one of them.
He is so inspirational. :)
 
I also have a large hard-drive of all the Yuzu video clips of his competitions that I could find from 2004 onward. Not complete, of course, but I was able to find some early documentaries when he was still in elementary and Junior high school. He was such a cute little boy, but he was lively and direct in his speech. Just like now. --But he had a lisp then that's gone now.

As a new fan, that is the one competition that I still can't bring myself to watch :(

It was terrible to see, and his distress afterwards was heartbreaking. I have so much respect and love for him. He is young but he has become very wise, I think, with extraordinary mental strength and grace, and it is hard won.

I saw that event live. I was expecting great things given his run during the season (2015-2016 was when he really broke away from the pack), and then he imploded on Boston ice. Sigh.
 
I’m really nervous on what he is going to bring out this season. Is everyone a fan of LGC?
