Yup I’m familiar with it, I had it as a kid. It usually resolves itself after a while and you do some exercises to strengthen muscles that can counter the effects of this patellar tendon lesion.

After you finish growing it tends to go away (you won’t have pain anymore) but you keep the lump from having had it.

Explains why she uses knee taping to stabilize the patella, don’t know if she still has pain (if she does, like I said it will go away once she stops growing).

I’m glad she is conscious of it, is getting treatment and knows how to take care of herself. She managed to get to the very top of the podium on this sport after having had it (this video is a little old) so I’m confident she’ll do super well. I never stopped playing (tennis) because of it and as an adult lead a normal pain free life.

I might have had it too when I was in sixth grade.
I had a "growth spurt" and the area in the middle of my knee was very sensitive (both knees).
The doctor said it was like a separation because I had grown a few inches very quickly - and you could actually feel the separation.
It hurt when walking - I can't even imagine trying to skate at the most elite level feeling like that.
It did go away by itself within a year.

Never any excuses, no "pity party", its just something she has to deal with - and she does!

Yes - this does at least show a purpose. I was thinking more of the multitude of youtube videos where the "creator" just has to put his/her favorite song to the skater's moves. Makes no sense at all - they just want to show off their video editing "skills"
