I remember an article about the Camp in 2014 where they mentioned that Paradis/Ouellette were not on the National Team, but had got a SC spot, were invited to camp. So we'll see.

They haven't announced the National Team for this year yet. I wonder about Joseph and Aurora. They both placed high enough for National team (Jo with the retirements), but both are on the Next Gen team. I know in the past Roman was on the National team when still in juniors, but did we have the Next Gen team back then? If not, it might be different now.

They could also add a 6th guy if they want. I think we'll only have 4 pairs teams at this point (Seguin/Bilodeau, Moore-Towers/Marinaro, Walsh/Michaud, Ruest/Wolfe), so it should be doable.

For 2017/18 there were 6 pairs on the National Team, so yeah, why not to 6 guys in 2018/19? (especially if the pairs do drop down to 4 teams as you indicate, SnowWhite).

TGee, thanks for the Matthew Markell info. I didn't see his name on any of the initial GP or JGP assignments and, while that was not a shock, it did make me curious of his plans for this season. I hope his training has been going well.

I wish Aurora represented Romania so she could start prepare for the Olympics 2022
Well, she will get a lot more support to prepare from Skate Canada through the NextGen program.

The camps/seminars, funding and sports science will make a bigger difference to her skating. And that will make the difference between just being an Olympian and actually getting to the freeskate.

And there is definitely room for her to make Canada's Olympic team for 2022. She's our top Junior woman in my view... I'm just waiting for her to come back together now her peak growth is done.

I just wish we had an up and coming young lady that could compete against the Russians/Japanese that has success in both the junior and senior ranks.

I'm afraid I don't really see the hype around Amelia Orzel. She can barely land her triples (awful technique, very low, and nearly no height, usually close to UR) and doesn't have a 3-3. People like to talk about bad posture and I feel like hers is worse than Konstantinova's. And she's still in novices at 14 years old? That means she has only one year left if she must stay there. I can't see her being competitive without reworking her technique and gaining a 3-3. But I hope she can prove me wrong, because her W.E. was pretty good.

Why would she be doing anything differently than she's doing now? There's no reason she couldn't make the Canadian team in 2022 (particularly as there's no way to know how Gabby and/or Kaetlyn will hold up over the next four years, assuming they stay in).

It seems as though bringing up our ladies even guarantees hate in our own thread. This is why we made our own forum dedicated to only our skaters so we don't have to deal with a large number of petty criticisms and hate most of are current skaters reiceve on here. Russian ladies fans being the most hatefilled and catty towards us. I show no offense to what skating fans on twitter and tumblr think of this site which is mainly negative I mean can you blame them? I love this thread and you guys in here but half of this forum is filled eteribot nutters who hate on non eteri skaters, biased mods who will let the hate train for certain skaters run and so on./end rant

BTW Spirals do you see me entering the Russian Ladies thread or posting on any other threads with even a quarter of your amount of negativity or belittling? In a functional community, respect needs to be reciprocated amongst its members.

Or do you see us trash talking russian skaters in this thread like they do to our skaters in your thread? eteribots gunna be eteribots.

Yeah, it’s not the most promising start. But then there aren’t so many Canadian skaters coming up, Orzel is a known name (are they related or is it like the Chens?), so it’s natural she might get some attention from that.

Hey folks,

This is NOT a Fan Fest thread. Please stop reporting posts every time someone says something you don't like or that you disagree with. Please do not report a post and then go back and respond to the said post. Please quit accusing mods of being anti-Canadian because you don't like a post.

Stating your opinion that you don't feel a skater has the technical ability, jumps, etc. is not considered "bashing" nor it is "trolling" as long as it's one-time comment and the thread is not derailed by repeated derogatory comments.

Personal opinions should be welcomed as long as it promotes good discussions(s).

This applies to other threads as well.

If you feel a poster is continuously bashing the character of a skater or otherwise derailing a thread with off-topic comments, by all means, please report post, but do not respond.

Thanks all!

yes.. Amelia and Conrad are related.. sure Amelia has things to improve on... Conrad still does... keep in mind that Amelia won't be your typical little skating mouse... genetically, she comes from a family of giants when it comes to figure skating...

yes, her take offs are unorthodox, Conrad's too.. but she can learn to fix that. Conrad was saying that it is NOT UNTIL he was DONE growing that he got the power he needed to jump big... as they have a similar spring and fast rotation going for them, perhaps a bit of muscle mass will help Amelia... but at the same time, she doesn't need quads....

to have a skater, at a novice level who has learned all her triples is good for Canadian ladies. if it's not good enough for other nations, fair enough... but this thread is about our canadian ladies... and we are here to discuss them fairly.... it's too bad some posters don't get that...

i am especially edgy about this because we are dealing with a young skater who could be reading these lines.... and I wish that people remained more constructive in their comments, thinking that they can be hurtful to skaters themselves. I mean, fans get offended when some negativity is thrown towards their favourites... imagine the skaters themselves?

In any case, several attempts were made to send a clear message that we wanted this thread to remain first and foremost informative, then positive, and then constructive.

I think and that's just my opinion, that if Canadian skating isn't your cup of tea, then you are welcome to just ignore that whole thread... and move on.. there are plenty of other threads on this forum... and see.. you won't see me going to the American Pairs thread...because right now, I wouldn't have any information or constructive criticism to give... except that perhaps mervin and olivia have a promising video out there of SBS 3 flips.

The Canadian ladies have a tendency to develop a bit more slowly and really hit their stride a bit later in comparison to some skaters from other countries. It is nice to be able to follow the progress of talented young skaters like Amelia and Aurora, whatever the timeline and however they progress. :agree:
