OTTAWA, ON (Aug. 12, 2026) – Skate Canada announced today that Mike Slipchuk will transition from his role as High-Performance Director at the conclusion of the 2026–2027 competitive season, marking the end of an extraordinary 20-year tenure leading Canada's High-Performance Programming.
Since joining Skate Canada in 2006, Slipchuk has helped define an era of success for Canadian figure skating. Through his leadership, strategic vision and commitment to athlete-centered excellence, he has helped build High-Performance Programming recognized around the world for its depth, consistency and collaborative approach to athlete and coach development.
During his tenure, Canadian athletes achieved remarkable success on the international stage, capturing 10 Olympic medals across all four figure skating disciplines, including a historic four-medal performance at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, as well as 24 World Championship medals. Beyond these results, Slipchuk has played a key role in strengthening athlete and coach support systems, advancing daily training environments and fostering a culture of excellence that has supported generations of Canadian skaters.
"20 years ago, Skate Canada gave me the opportunity to lead their High-Performance Programming and it's been the job of a lifetime to get to work alongside such an amazing group of athletes and coaches," said Slipchuk. "There are so many memories I cherish deeply, but seeing our athletes reach the podium with their medals and the Canadian flag draped over their shoulders will stay with me forever. I thank everyone who I have had the opportunity to work with over the years, and it has been a true pleasure to share this incredible ride with you."

To ensure a seamless transition, Slipchuk will continue to support Skate Canada in an advisory capacity following the conclusion of his High-Performance Director responsibilities, providing strategic guidance and helping to transition key initiatives.
Skate Canada will immediately begin a national search for its next High-Performance Director, with the goal of appointing a successor later this year to allow for a comprehensive transition ahead of the 2027–2028 season.
