Denis Ten

When I saw the news when I scrolled through my FB on my phone, I was filled with shock, sadness, but mostly anger. To stab someone, just for side mirrors of a car. I know people will say anger helps no one, but I truly hope those perpetrators meet the worst fate when caught. Still can't believe that THIS has happened.

I used to live in Peru. They would steal car mirrors, headlights, windshield wipers, anything and everything. You could go to an area of Lima and buy stolen replacements. Whenever you parked on the street you had to remove all these things and hide them somewhere and leave the glove box open so thugs would know there was nothing inside. It’s like that in a lot of countries.

Very true. Although outside of the US it is unclear to me if it is due to a drug problem or a "I just dont care" society.....

Actually I think they are different problems.
People do it because:
A.) They don´t find or can´t find a job
B.) They don´t want to find a job
C.) At least in my country even when drugs circulate to other countries there is no consumption

Such an awful, awful day. A light has gone out in the world of Figure Skating.

RIP Denis Ten. We will all miss you.

Such tragic news. Such senseless death.

I feel privileged for having seen him skate live.

My condolences to his family and friends.

Rest in peace D10.

A fan from Kazakhstan tweeted this very touching & ironic picture & message:

"Right now outside of my window I see Denis Ten and his quote “every person has a heart and that makes them special” repeated in Russian and Kazakh."

What a tragedy and untimely passing! Rest in peace and bless your spirit in heaven, dear Denis! Your wonderful soul and beautiful skating will live on in our hearts forever! To think I was the only one who wished him a happy birthday & inquired about the show...

The impression I have gotten from Kazakstani posters/people online is that he was very famous in Kazakstan and the entire country is devastated over this.

(I said I was going to quit the internet for tonight but I lied I guess.)

He was also a huge supporter, and one of the faces, of the Almaty bid for the Winter Olympics. He put his star power to work trying to win the Olympics for his home country, which I think is immensely honorable.

Tragically and ironically, If memory serves, one of the knocks against the Almaty bid was that crime was a very large problem.

I just adore Denis's 2010 SP to Sing Sing Sing. I was already a fan of his after discovering him in his 2009 Worlds free program, along with everyone else, but this SP was just struck me with his incredible energy and how he fed on the great crowd reaction at the end. It looks like his Olympic performance was taken off youtube for copyright, but I found his Worlds.

Rest in peace, sweet Denis. We will never forget you.

Here's the whole Vancouver's men short program. D10's start around the 2 hours 9 minutes mark.

I knew he campaigned for the Olympics there but thought economic and size of the country was the reason it wasn’t choose. Didn’t knew crime was big in the country

thank you for sharing this tweet as this user has a lot of Denis content. I am in tears once again today.... seriously, i hadn't cried like this in a very long time

I'm devastated about Denis' death. It's both heartbreaking and touching to see how the entire skating community has posted messages about him. One of the suspects, Kiyasov Nuraly, has plead guilty according to "sports.kz"

The world just got a bit dimmer and darker. I just can't believe the news. Denis left his mark on skating as a great skater and to his friends as an amazing person I ti so sad to hear how he died in a crime of violence. He deserved better. Life is so fragile. This remnds me of when someone bombed Maria Butyrskaya's car a pointless crime or hearing about another olympic bronze medallist tragic death in Kira Ivanova. Wonderful skaters who died far too early. Everyonoe think positive thoughs and remember the great Denis skates.

I can't believe it. I just saw Evgenia's Instagram post and assumed that Denis announced his retirement, but not this. My heart and prayers go out to his family and friends. And to think I was looking through my youtube playlist and watched a couple of videos of him last week. What a sad day for the skating community. If only Denis knew how much people loved and admired him as a skater and a person. Rest in peace, Denis. Your beautiful skating and overall contribution to this sport will not be forgotten.

In honor of his memory, here are some of my favorite skates from Denis Ten:
