Denis Ten

I am shocked. Denis worked so hard and so successfully to make a name not only for himself but for his entire country. And now this?? Could his fate be more cruel?

Rest in peace, Denis. May the fans always remember the meaning of "D10".

Rest in peace, Denis.
Let free of your wings and may you dance the eons away with awesome music.
Condolences to all and to his family.

I'm devastated about Denis' death. It's both heartbreaking and touching to see how the entire skating community has posted messages about him. One of the suspects, Kiyasov Nuraly, has plead guilty according to "sports.kz"
It's Nuraly Dauletbekovich Kiyasov, they just put the last name first as is usually done in official documents.

The name of the second suspect is Arman Kudaibergenov, they haven't caught him yet

Another day came, but the sadness is still...Yesterday, I chatted with some people I met in Milan at Worlds this year and we could not even find any words that would describe our feelings, so we mostly cried and were silent in this sad communion. We may not know Denis in person, not even seen him skating live, but we felt like we knew him trough his actions, skating seen on TV and influence he had, impact to put Kazakhstan on the skating map. The sense of loss is like we lost a close person to us, because his skating brought him so close. I second many thoughts voiced there to make a show/gala in memory of Denis, to live up what he was so passionate about.

I watched the videos. The shocking thing is that those murderers walked calmly in the streets after killing someone in the middle of the day in a park.

These sad news, so totally unbelievable to read... RIP, D10! I will miss your skating so much. I sure hope that those scumbags will have at least the punishment they deserve and more.

From Lambiel on what a great person Denis was to him:

You were an artist
You were a passionate person
You had multiple talents
You were a hard-worker
You had a great sense of humour
You had big dreams
You were generous
Your thoughts were deep and smart
You were respectful
You were eager to learn
You had amazing creativity
You were an inspiration
You had a true smile
You were a hero
You were unique
You were wise
You were a visionary
You had a brave heart
You were a beautiful friend
Thank you for the beautiful memories
I miss YOU Denis.

I'm still so upset. I've been reading people's reactions and basically anyone who encountered him says he was kind, intelligent, down to earth etc., on top of talented and hardworking. It's nice to see such universal appreciation but it also hurts that someone this beautiful was taken from us like this.

Denis Ten dies from stab wounds: Updated

After a day, still feel sad. I cannot say I am his fan, but watching competitions and figure skating a lot, you tend to become familiar with the athletes, especially those who had hang around for some time. Some skaters I like more, others, I still respect them a lot as it is not easy to stay competitive for so long. My tweet today is filled with Denis, that does say how important he is to the sport and a lot in the fine personality that he has.... his passing leave a gaping hole in the figure skating community....how come this off season have so much twists and turns [emoji22]

I was just coming home from work, and on the train I found myself wondering what Denis's last words might have been, what his last thoughts might have been, and realized we'll never know... Then my eyes welled up and I had to toss my head back and blink furiously to keep the tears from spilling out.

It's Friday night and I'm going to stay home and just watch Denis videos.

I opened this thread yesterday after arriving home from work but closed it without adding a message of my own. I failed at finding the right words to express sorrow at the sudden, pointless loss of a man I didn't know but who meant so much to the international skating community. What does a person say in such circumstances that isn't either insufficient or self-examining?

Having slept on it, over my morning coffee I browsed the latest information being shared. Now knowing that his death was not as swift and minimally painful as I'd hoped its become no easier to type a proper goodbye to his brief but influential life. By all accounts, Denis seems to have been a brilliant, visionary, funny, brave and, most importantly, kind man. Blessing in repose to him. Peace, much love and all good things to those he has left behind with only memories of shared love and laughter in this life; may he meet them again in lifetimes and existences yet to come. As to the men who made the choice to take Denis from his loved ones, may they spend long lives troubled by, and learning from, what they have done. No easy peace to them, only regrets and a drive to better themselves.

As I've seen suggested elsewhere, and perhaps here as well, an annual skating award given in Denis' name and, if possible, an academic/artistic/sports scholarship, for promising young skaters representing emerging skating federations would be a fitting recognition of his passions. It's obvious he wanted to be, and was becoming, an ambassador for not only sport in Kazakhstan but for dreaming to excel internationally in any walk of life, no matter if your home nation is internationally powerful in your field of choice or if you will have to be the trailblazer. He inspired others, and that should be continued.

Tell those around you what you love about them every chance you get. Share hugs. Share your talents. Make people smile.

Latest news on the suspects: they were regular car thieves. Nuraly Kiyasov had been caught for two car thefts before but he paid back the owners and they withdrew their complaints. According to his testimony, they did not know know who the car belonged to. One of them was using the knife to detach the mirrors when Denis returned to his car, he tried to stop them and take back the mirrors, they panicked and the guy who was holding the knife stabbed Denis in the leg so he couldn't run after them. He wasn't aiming at any particular area, just wherever in Denis' leg he could reach. The police are close to apprehending the other thief who is wanted for another crime.

I don't feel better because they didn't want to kill him. :(

Unfortunately, this saying posted upthread holds true here:

this reminds me of the saying: it takes only one single idiot to throw a rock into the sea, but 100 wise men cannot retrieve it.

I join this with information only, as words cannot describe my sorrow and I hardly can stop crying since yesterday.
:sad4::sad4::sad4:

From this article it rather looks like there must have been a fight:
https://tengrinews.kz/kazakhstan_ne...-mnojestvennyie-koloto-rezanyie-ranyi-349670/
This article mentions that Denis had multiple wounds / cuts, not only the deadly one cutting a main artery on his thigh / pelvis, but also cuts to his face, his upper body, his knees.
Hope this scumbucket will be locked away for the rest of their life. I know seeking revenge is a bad feeling, but the only little bit of satisfaction since yesterday is that at least they got the murderers and that they will not get away with it. :sad21:

Denis Funeral will take place on Saturday, 10.00 a.m.
