Nathan Chen

Really almost impossible not to stare at Nathan when he is right in front of you!

Your videos turned out great Mamamiia

Has Land of All been confirmed as the FS? It seems a tad short? Isn’t the FS still 4 minutes for this season (from 4 minutes 30 sec)?

I don’t know if it’s been confirmed? But seems that it’s his FS

Wonder what ex program he will perform this season

Some fabulous pictures to go with Mamamiia's fabulous videos :)

Thanks, everyone, for all the news, links and posts.

Mamamiia, shine said everything I wanted to say. I am amazed that you have the willpower to remember you're even recording as you're watching live skating. If it were me, I would forget to hit start and stop and probably miss everything, or run out of storage before Nathan's second number comes up.

It is FS. Sam told that his IG.
Looks like cut out for ice show. And this season FS is 4min...🙂
Full version may be perform at Competition.

I don't know, but isn't it often the case that skaters alter not just jumps but also the cut of music when skating their competition programs in a show setting?

In any case, it leaves room for suspense and discovery, because there's at least 30 seconds more of his long program we've yet to see. :)

I am wondering if Nathan plans to have a new gala program at all this season. Has he simply run out of time before school starts to create a new one?

If he's planning on using a simplified version of his FS for a gala, I wish he'd come up with different moves to take the place of some jumping passes, because I love the way he moves, and I haven't seen a spiral from him in ages, or an Ina Bauer, to name just two possibilities.

Also I would be surprised if LoA (already getting its own acronym???) wasn’t the FS as it would have way too many jumping passes for an exh.

It had that acronym long before use by Nathan lol!

Nathan wearing vest - his sleeves are rolled up neatly :)

No matter how he looks in this one picture, the BFTE shirt still needs to go. During Caravan, with its high energy, almost frantic movements, the shirt's stiffness causes it to bunch up, to tug the vest so everything becomes shapeless and untidy. It should be Nathan's skating and performance that takes center stage, with only his hair occasionally stealing the moment. It shouldn't make you think, 'tuck in your shirt, young man! And quit borrowing your brother's clothes!'

Forgetting to hit start is always my biggest fear, because I do forget a lot lol

It's not a big deal even if Nathan drew inspiration from Jeremy's program, both of which may have drawn inspiration from the modern dance piece which yyyskate posted. Also Jeremy's is an exhibition program and naturally has more room for artistic expression; IIRC Jeremy had what, 1 double axel while Nathan had to put in 6 jumping passes. Also while the slow section may share similarity, I don't think Nathan's footwork section looks anything like Jeremy's.

By now Nathan has done 3 programs with music Jeremy has also used: Kreisler (Praeludium and Allegro), Saint-Saens (Organ Symphony), and now Woodkid (Land of All)!

Mamamiia huge thanks to you!!
The programs are incredible! The SP is so so bright, colourful, energetic, funny and Nathan is incredibly happy performing it! He shines like a sun :luv17: I love how he works with his hands!
The LP - the choreo sequence O M G, he makes so many movements in a nanosecond  A bit disappointed they didn't make the steps into lutz like they did in the SP.
Both programs are so strong and full of energy, such a gift to us all. I'm speechless, this is the thing of beauty.

able to put steps in front of a jump does not mean that always put steps in front of a jump to show-off. Transitions including steps in front of jumps should still serve the purpose of music. ideally, should only be put there if the music is asking for it.
for the short, the steps fits some beats in the music (I hope in the future, with more refinement/polish, that whole jumping pass will fit music perfectly, every step, every movement), And for the long, the musical timing of the lutz seems is great as it is without the steps.

but if do the same steps into lutz in both short and long, Nathan will have one more chance to get consistent with it.

in the long program LoA
I like some of the dance arm/torso move that is outside of the classic ballet five positions. e.g. arm behind his back. bend backwards etc.
also, Nathan and Choreographers designed some very gentle one-foot slideish turns feels like "grazing the ice" (which is a word Kurt Browning used to describe Denis' SS) reminds me of Yuna's House of Woodcock:biggrin:

I will link in next post.

Is it really that ‘important’ that Nathan’s program is completely different than Jeremy’s ... Nathan found some inspiration in Jeremy’s program, at least in music choice.

And we haven’t seen Nathan’s finished program yet or it performed full out.

also, I think the LoA ex version, may has some level of Nathan self-choreo in it. We are missing a very important 30 seconds.

Yeah I think Nathan needs a new white shirt
