Nathan Chen

As always, thank you all for the news and posts.

I must admit this latest singing video took me by surprise. A couple of questions for Nathan watchers in this thread...

1)Does Nathan seem a bit less shy in recent times to you?

I don't know... probably? At least I saw him pretty comfortable among fans of all ages lol.

2)Is it usually possible to significantly improve your singing voice without taking lessons? I'm asking here rather than just googling because we seem to have all manners of experts in the various arts posting in this thread. :)

I have no idea but I like his voice...singing or talking ;)

Does Raf have any really young students, like kids under 10? I remember he mentioned in a interview that he wished to have more young students.

I don't know if he has any young students, but then I can't keep up with Raf's roster! I don't even know if Vivian Le is still with him--she was once a young skater people expected much from, and she moved from Texas, IIRC, to work with Raf. Georgia or Ic3Rabbit might know.

(you would think USFS is probably advising parents of young skaters to at least consider moving to Raf early in their career, before they develop habits he'll later have to correct)

Same here. I've watched insta-stories where you can't even see him just to hear him laugh. :)

I read some article that China federation send young male skaters to Raf, and now they working with Raf.

Right. I remember that too, but I am too lazy to look up their ages. I would assume Chinese Fed would be sending young men who would be age-eligible for Beijing Olys, so it's unlikely they're as young as Raf would prefer (in terms of starting with him at an early age so he doesn't have to undo things other coaches tolerated).

Thank you. I was just wondering if he traded 4T consistency for 3A, based on the recent ice shows. It's good to see he landed it, but that 4t still could be a lot better. The scratchy landing. He's landed much better ones in the past. I don't like to think they (team_Raf) couldn't find a better one from the same session to upload?

Seems to be who uploaded video at team_Raf account is keep changing, and run by lots of team Raf skaters, so i hope next time( didn’t know who are uploaded...) choose better clips.😉( also i don’t think Michael’s clip was good choice.)

About Nathan’s 4T, still 4T was his favorite jumps and during SOI and other ice shows ( not broadcast) it has good consistency. So i’m not worry about it very much... But i understand what you worried. I hope Nathan can handle all the problem well.🤞

They were in IG story posted by Romain on Independence Day. Compared to Adam, Ashley, Mariah, Romain, both Marin and Eun Soo are young enough.

I am seriously wonder how much time and attention Nathan is getting from Raf now.

The Team Raf photo of Mariah and Nathan in the rickshaw is different from the one on Mariah's IG so I assume there must be some insider connection since it's not uploaded anywhere else, afaik. Mariah, Romain, and Plusfiveapparel (Brezina's business account) all follow the account.

Nathan follows quite several accounts recently, but not this account.

Yuki posted a picture of Whale today. Don’t know if she can negotiate something for Nathan.

New students are going to move in on August 24th. Nathan must be really busy now and won’t spend many days in Lakewood. When is Champ camp?

I see Yuki posted a picture of Whale today. Don’t know if she can negotiate something for Nathan.

Champs Camp is August 18-23. I wonder about the Whale because Nathan also mentioned it in an interview and made it sound like he expects to train there so hopefully they managed to work something out for him.

Thanks, sheetz. So he is probably flying directly to Yale after the camp.

One good thing after moving, the flight is much shorter from CT to Montreal. He can fly there over the weekend if he needs more help.

The team Raf account feels like an idea Romain and Michael came up with while Nathan, Mariah and Marin were away. Although Nathan is not publically following it, the videos should have been posted with his and Raf's permission.

It sounded like Nathan will be training primarily at Champions Skating Center, but it would be great if it can be worked out that he can train on campus as well.

lol at the thought of Raf running his team's instagram account

I was wondering who is 'Michael' - just figured out it's Michal Brezina :)

I doubt Nathan really cares if a video of him doing a 4T is posted - it's not like posting a video of him working on 4 loop or his new programs before they become public or something. I think Raf does have a policy of not sharing certain things though.

The rink doesn't seem to be open for long hours, they just need to hire someone to operate it for some extra hours, or perhaps Nathan can be the Zamboni driver himself , just remember to turn off the lights and lock the door when he is done...just imagining...

Practicing, practicing, lol. We don’t know if there is anyone training him over there. If mom is not going, is he going to hire someone to take videos of him to send to Raf for weekly check in? I remembered Yuzuru’s mom took his video to send to BO while he was in Japan.

It is always nice to at least have a on campus backup to practice. It is too hard to drive in bad weather days or test weeks.

Adam’s mom was once the Zamboni driver just to give her son more practice time.

What's in Montreal? You mean to have his choreography tweaked so now it can accommodate more quads? If he's hardly getting any attention from Raf in Cali, why not get some jump training help from Canada, if it turns out remote coaching isn't going so well?

This was exactly my thought after the IGstories about training at 1am. The Japanese rink was crowded until late so they couldn't get on the ice and have elbow room until way late at night. I don't know how rinks work--whether it's really feasible to keep the Whale open that late, but I started to hope against hope he won't always have to drive to Cromwell in bad weather. I just don't know how skating at ungodly hours will work out for someone who aims for 10 hours of sleep each night. Less sleep is also less good for healing up little injuries before they become big injuries.

Not sure - but it probably wouldn't be that hard for Nathan to find someone to take videos for him :)

I hope he can practice on campus!
