Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club

Back to TCC, Zhenya has confirmed no Nepela for her. I do think we'll be seeing her, and Jason then too, at ACI.

So most of TCC there in that case!

If I'm not mistaken, this thread is here to discuss TCC skaters, so it's a mix of actual news re the skaters at the club + squirrels + their new haircuts

[if I'm mistaken pls mods let me know :D]

It's also that kind of discussions that is in other skaters/group of skaters' fan fests.

But yes TCC is very popular, so i can understand that this thread is in the edge and not in fan fests like others

Where did she confirm that? In any case we will know soon since the deadline for ACI entries was yesterday.

Also, the entries for the 2 CS competitions happening the week before ACI have been published this week, so I assume the list for ACI will be out sometime next week too. I really hope Jason and Zhenya will both be there! It seems like it would make the most sense to me!

Gabby is doing US Classic instead, btw.

This has already been discussed several times before, so I will just summarize it.

This thread is useful because news pertaining these skaters can be posted here, instead of making new threads in the edge or being posted to fan fest where less people will see it. People really enjoy the thread, but at the end of the day that’s the mods decision. But this thread is so popular if I google “Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club” it pops up on the first page (at least for me). There are a few things in here that’s not really news, but there’s also information about interviews and competitions.

Most of things here are no news, haircuts, and social media action. Right now this is more like a thread of teens fans following x group/ singer on vogue

On that insta post with her bangs, someone asked her about Nepela and she said she's not going. I have no idea how to screencap that (it's also in Russian) :dbana: Someone also asked about ACI but she didn't answer that one.

Cool, it’s okay. There are like a billion comments, so no need to fetch it. It’s not a big surprise.

I do love the bangs!

As for the thread, I think it’s apparent appeal is that it’s lighthearted for the most part and one of the places where fans of different skaters can chat happily. I agree a lot of this stuff is fan fest material, but it’s nice to discuss it on a bigger group.

Exactly, especially when the fan fests would intersect (like Zhenya, Jason and Gabby all having haircuts, or which skaters can be seen in pics or videos together)

The question and answer re Nepela:

veronika_z26
@jmedvedevaj Жень, будешь принимать участие в турнире "Мемориал Ондрея Непелы"? Кстати, тебе идёт😘💕💕💕

jmedvedevaj
@veronika_z26 нет, меня там не будет. Спасибо)

Not a complaint about the thread, but it is at the bottom of the third page of my Google search.

I believe your Google search and mine are influenced by the respective frequency of our previous visits to the thread.

I think a better indication of the popularity of the thread is its 262,247 views … and counting. :)

I wonder why this is not in fan fests.

I’m sorry, but why does it matter? As Ice Ballerina noted, it’s a popular enough thread - nearly 1200 posts and 260,00 + views since June. The thread not only shows us the relations between the TCC skaters that wouldn’t necessarily be the focus of a fan fest - for example, major hair changes made by three top senior skaters, two of whom are brand new to TCC - it exposes fans of one skater to others whose careers they may not have followed that closely before.

I’m a perfect example - I’ve always really liked Zhenya, but didn’t read her FF that frequently and didn’t follow her on social media. Now I do, and I’ve become more interested in all Russian ladies - including the juniors- as a result. Similarly, until I started reading this thread, I didn’t know much about the up and coming Canadian juniors. Now I not only read the general Canadians thread, I’ve watched some of the local Canadian competition streams for junior ladies as well as the junior men who train at TCC. I’ve also learned about Canadian squirrels and bagged milk, but more importantly, bits and pieces about Toronto and how the Canadian system works, that I find really interesting. In a world where we’re always trying to figure out how to grow the sport of figure skating - and on a forum where there are enough nationalist factions that the the admins felt the need to prohibit fans of one country’s skaters from bashing other skaters - I think that’s a great thing.

There are other international training centers these days - Team Raf and the new World Skating Academy at the World Arena come to mind - so if fans of skaters who train in those places want to start similar threads, I think it would be a great idea - and I’d probably read those threads, too.

My personal feeling is that people who don’t like this thread, find it confusing, or just want to focus on certain skaters, can simply ignore it - leave it for those of us who like it and find it beneficial.

Honestly, the maturity level in most “srs bsns” threads on GS is about the same as we see here so I don’t understand the fannish gatekeeping on a thread that is mostly bringing together fans of different skaters in a spirit of mutual support like you see at TCC.*

ETA:
* = yes I understand TCC is not a conflictless paradise.

If it makes you feel any better, there's gatekeeping in other threads, too. Stuff like "people thought that was a good program?", "wow, I most certainly needed to know that particular bit of motivated reasoning", and "yet another thread on pre-rotation, why dear God why, please make it stop".

Paraphrasing. People can say whatever they want on a thread respectfully. Why this thread is a thing still is indeed baffling, especially since there's a Team Orser thread in the fan fests (which can easily be renamed to Team TCC), and ESPECIALLY because we've moved on to talking about the posters' haircuts now. Anyway, meh.
