Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club

People care about haircuts this much? Huh.

yes.. just as much as some care about squirrels and bagged milk ;) it's been said to be a lighthearted fun thread... i love haircuts and if i needed to go every week.. i would... i love my hairdresser.

I had a haircut the same day Jason did.

Congratulations to everyone at Team Cricket who got their hair cut and 4everchan and Tavi on their new hairstyles!

Now we know why 4everchan and Tavi to not tell us their new programs yet, they are clearly siding with the trollish faction of Team Cricket members who have not yet revealed all or any of their programs.

^^^^

Honestly, the maturity level in most “srs bsns” threads on GS is about the same as we see here so I don’t understand the fannish gatekeeping on a thread that is mostly bringing together fans of different skaters in a spirit of mutual support like you see at TCC.*

ETA:
* = yes I understand TCC is not a conflictless paradise.

I didn't know that wonder why this thread is not in FF was fannish gatekipping...
I just thought that mods created different sections in this forum and sometimes remove some threads about skaters on the edge on purpose.

Lol if people are bored on a Saturday, there’s a competition going on that you can stream (ie. GTSA) ;).

Okay, this post could probably go in the fan fest, but I’m putting it here anyway.

For those who didn’t know, Jason is best man at Grant Hochstein’s wedding today. Here are two shots with the new hair:

Thoughts on what he should do with it in competition? :)

I have to say, the Jason in pic #2 does not look like someone who wore a ponytail and manbun until recently!

Stephen Gogolev has given a video interview to John Wilson Blades: https://youtu.be/Pnd8Zrj9uhA

Left skate first please! Loves soccer/European football and follows Bayern Munich (not Real Madrid! Oh no Javi [emoji6]). Best skating friend is Noah Bodenstein and Yuzu is his skating hero!

Something from this I'm curious about, is March Break actually a thing in Canada? Not called Spring Break?

Yes, in Ontario at least it's called March Break.

Ontario has four distinct publicly funded school systems, running four school boards in most centres. And they try to stagger the breaks in March to avoid everyone travelling at once.

So, for many school boards the break happens before the official start of spring. And in much of Ontario the spring thaw doesn't start until April anyway.

(The multiple school board situation is a complex constitutional matter rooted in Canadian history. The constitution requires catholic separate schools be funded in Ontario: so, there are both 'public' (formerly Protestant) schools, and Catholic schools. Then, where numbers warrant, French language schools are also constitutionally required and have their own boards. So, four boards. Other provinces have two systems: English and French.)

Editing to add: this staggering makes it hard for clubs to book a March break camp, as skaters attending schools in different boards have different breaks. Some of the clubs work together so that among them the break weeks get covered, even if the skaters go to other clubs to get coverage. Makes sense that it would be a chance for Stephen and other young TCC skaters to make friends from other clubs/centres.

Yes. Junior women are doing their SPs this afternoon at GTSA.

We should note that these aren't exactly 'local' competitions. Unless skaters are already national or NextGen team members, they must compete in at least 2 of 5 national summer series events in Canada as part of the qualification system. Minto and GTSA are the two in Ontario this year, but skaters come from other provinces.

TCC has two skaters in the first flight: Kristina Ivanova and Tina Mai.

In the second flight, Kaitlin Stitz and Malena Ruofan Jin will represent TCC.

In flight 3 there are two NextGen team members: Alison Schumacher represents Richmond SC but trains at TLC, and Natalie D'Allessandro who is better know in ice dance, will complete in singles.

And last night, TCC's Natalie D'Allessandro and Bruce Waddell wrapped up the Junior Dance with and excellent FD. An unfortunate invalid lift at the end of an otherwise strong RD Thursday, meant that they finished 2nd overall.

Adding: videos for NatnBruce from GTSA are now available:

i had a haircut too this week.

Obviously there's a rash of scissoring sweeping Canada... stay in the cave, Yuzu!!! (I like his hair longer, and am hoping for a program where we get it swept back a la LGC)

Seems to depend on the haircuttee in question: I can understand Jason's pretty well iconic locks being lost to the ages being a story in itself

Sometimes a haircut is news. Jason is so popular in Japan that his was reported on a news site.

The last paragraph mentions Jason being coached by Brian and training with Hanyu. [rough Google translation]:

Brown was familiar with the Japanese society, such as manipulating Japanese fluently, and now he studied under Mr. Brian O'Sher, who was the same as Hanyu Yasu (ANA) from off, and became a colleague. What kind of performances can be shown with beautiful skating and artistic skills with a lot of fans, with a completely new image of the hairstyle.

If you have info on:

- Jason’s new programs
- Jason’s jumps
- Hanyu’s new programs
- Anything else substantive at TCC

I would gladly discuss those rather than hair, squirrels, or fruit juice. :)

Plus Junhwan's programs! - and Javi's if he's getting new ones :yay:

See, we have plenty of serious stuff we could discuss if they would just get on and tell us...

You know it's the offseason when we are all grasping at straws. Even the smallest bit of new information is endlessly discussed. Somehow I think the squirrel and haircut talk will fade away once we have actual skating to talk about.

But I will say, I'm a fan of both Jason and Evgenia's new hair. I still can't wait to see them skate!

Gabby’s short program score tonight was 61 points and she has kept Carmen. I didn’t get a chance to watch but apparently she’s changed her layout from doing a triple lutz to a triple flip instead.

I love Gabby and I actually love Carmen, but let’s just say that recording is not my favorite. :drama:

i suspect it is a work in progress regarding the layout... she probably will either go back to 3t-3t + 3lz or , as it seems wants to change the 3t-3t for a 3lz-3t, and then that is why she tried a flip instead of a lutz as she needs a different set up incorporated in the program there... i think it's a wise move to see if she can first include the flip... and then if it works out, change the combo... there is no point changing the combo if she cannot work the solo jump in the choreo.

You and me both. I'm somewhat disappointed to be perfectly honest especially as this year is not bad to take a risk in the short. Ah well.

She's had issues last season with both the F and the Lz, in terms of edge calls but she's probably just going with what's most stable right now. We'll see how that unfolds.
