His name made me think of Tatiana Malinina, who skated for Uzbekistan. I was pretty sure she lives in the U.S. and wondered if he was her son. According to Wikipedia, she does have a son named Ilia Malinin born in 2004, which seems about right. Also it says he was the 2017 U.S. Intermediate champion.
 
There are quite a few photos of youngsters with Yuzu-inspired costumes: Hope and Legacy especially (which is not surprising) as well as Seimei and Chopin ;)

Obviously Hisaichi (H&L) is going to be rare if pretty impossible to do, and most of the rest would make for pretty intimidating comparisons for seniors (Seimei is utterly iconic to Yuzuru, Chopin is an umpteen record holding piece, and anyone who picked Lets Go Crazy... would probably have to be crazy - and have great legs :laugh: ) And the choreographer would be just as challenged: Jeff and Shae-Lynn - the best anyone can get - really have been at the top of their game for him.

Phantom's still going strong as a warhorse though... has anyone done Notre Dame since 2013?

I know Yuzu said he wants to skate for himself from this season onwards, but I think Yuzu won't want anyone beating his WR whilst he is competing. I'm sure his usual competitive self will come back once he sees Nathan, Shoma or Boyang reaching near 330 points in total lol. I just love Yuzu for both sides; he's now free from pressure, but he also LOVES to compete at the same time!:hap10:

His world record can’t be defeated anymore, his record are historic and now there will be another record under the new system

True... he'll still want to win, though. He can't help it. And to do well with these pieces, all the more to honour his idols...

But the worst pressure - the Olympics - is off, and I think you could see it, both when he was being interviewed and on the ice. (I know everyone talked about the pressure Nathan was under, but I still think no one had pressure anything like Yuzuru, given what he was aiming for, his injuries and lack of training, the expectations and idolisation of his country, the way OTOH the NA press were discounting him... thank god Brian and the TCC team were able to help shield him from the worst of it while he was healing). I think now, he just wants to show the world how glorious and joyous it can be, when you are the very very best....
 
I'm really happy Yuzu is doing an hommage to Johnny and I hope he has some input on the costume. Johnny actually thinks outside the box when dressing for figure skating and it's very refreshing.

True. the worst pressure is off for good. Even if he decides to compete in 2022 Olympics, the pressure to win a 3rd OGM won't be as bad. Because even if he doesn't win a 3rd OGM then, the fact that he was the man to win 2 consecutive OGM in 66 years won't change. And his legacy won't change either. He is printed in the history books now. Any more to his present glory is just more glory, but not less even if he doesn't break WRs.

Anyone knows how to buy a ticket in Japan? Is the process similar to international competitions? Or we have to buy via Lawson only? I have never tried to fight against Japanese fans before. :laugh:
I am planning a family trip to Japan at the same time as WC so I want to give it a try (just for 1 individual event is fine-Men SP, FS or Gala). Please let me know if you have any recommendations! Thank you in advance. :biggrin:
 
I can't imagine any skater in the senior level using his music choices (H&L, Seimei) after how iconic he made them. LGC and Ballade are still pretty dobale but if I were a competitor, the constant comparison would make that decision hard. Probably after he retires, someone will do a tribute to Yuzuru (maybe Gogolev).

Honestly, I wasn't crazy about the FS music choice, mainly because I see it as "Plushenko's music" and as much as I love Plushy, it seemed kind of weird to me. Maybe because their styles are so different I couldn't imagine Yuzu doing Evgeni's music in any way.

Then I saw Yuzuru's step sequence and I had a heart attack. I swear this man will be the death of me and I predict I am going to die in Saitama, watching Yuzu live.

Average distance in the men's long jump final at Euros this year was under 8m (top distance 8.25m). We keep in mind that these athletes didn't have to rotate in the air or take care of difficult entrances, exits and landing positions, music, choreo... :palmf:

#Sidenote: slippery ice and a solid tartan track+sand are hard to compare anyway, but 6m... wow.

I thought the same. And I was amazed at how he explained what 4A was like, it was very easy to understand for an amateur like me. Thank you, Hanyu sensei :laugh:
