2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Also watched Zagitova who also loked good. I watched her Lutz in slomo as well and she also had a slight flutz tho less than Medvedeva.
Incorrect. No Flutz.

On the program, it's pretty flat. And most of the musical highlights are during spins etc. and aren't really performed to. Her transitions and entries to the final two jumps are certainly the highlights of the program. Unfortunately, this is a clear step back for her.

I really liked Samodurova's program and she certainly seems a lot more ready to contend for the Rostelecom spot than any of the other contenders for it.

I meant that Kanysheva could get a silver in Canada and thus keep Young You at two bronzes -- out of the final.
I guess it's too late to get her a visa to go to Canada? Honestly it feels like a waste to give a JGP spot to Tarakanova AND Vasilieva unless one of them will get two.
Maybe in Ostrava we could have Kostornaya and Kanysheva again, in Slovenia Trusova and Tarusina like assigned, and in Yerevan Tarakanova and Sinitsyna. Gives one of them room to win and put them on top of 2+2 with 1+3

Agree about it being a potential waste to risk conceding silver twice with the spots for Tarakanova and Vasilieva. Actually your original radical idea (putting Kostornaia and Trusova into Ostrava) would be strategically the safest way to go if Russia's objective is to sweep the JGPF.

Trusova + Kostornaia should be able to keep Ye Lim to bronze at a max which would push Araki off the podium. At the moment, Ye Lim is the biggest threat to an all-Russian JGPF because even if You and Ye Lim are tied at 2-3 = 24 points, You has to score around 200 points to beat Ye Lim in the tiebreaker assuming that Ye Lim maintains a score of around 190 in her second event with bronze (in this scenario, behind Trusova & Kostornaia). And Tarusina can be deployed in a way to help her get 2-2 which again is ahead of 2-3.

Tarakanova + Sinitsyna are fairly safe to get 1-2 in Ljubljana -- even if Tarakanova bombs she is unlikely to get below 170+ points which is better than Iwano or Aoki's PBs already. Let's assume Sinitsyna - Tarakanova - Iwano /Aoki as the outcome.

Kanysheva + Tarusina in Yerevan again fairly low-risk, Araki's PB is around 183 so hopefully there could again be a 1-2 if both go clean with Kanysheva likely to take the win.

That could lead to a final of Trusova (30), Shcherbakova (30), Kostornaia (28), Kanysheva (28), Sinitsyna (26), Tarusina (26)

Exactly. I'd think that that's a safe option and hopefully the RusFed considers it, or at least taking out one of Vasilieva/Tarakanova to give seven girls two slots.

Also watched Zagitova who also loked good. I watched her Lutz in slomo as well and she also had a slight flutz tho less than Medvedeva. It also looked like there might be a possible UR on the 3Lo. I didnt enjoy watching this program as much as medvedevas and I am not sure why. It might be that there is just to many different musics in one short program.

I think it was still a discrete outside edge or a flat one but not a flutz. However, her control of the edge has gotten kind of worse (still not tragic) since the Olympics.

Can someone explain to me who the officials taking a look at the test skates are? I recognized only TAT but she seemed to be a bit far from the main group of people taking notes. I expected to see Lakernik but couldn't spot him. Do you know more about the representatives of the RusFed?

Just watched medvedevas SP. I think she looks in good form intreresting that she has the Lutz in her sp. Still a flutz if you slow down the spead but less obvious in real time i thought so slight improvement. I assume they will work more on it since she has it in the short. She looked like she really enjoyed skating this program today! It is defenetly a new style for her and might take a litte bit longer to perfect but it will be a fun program to watch during the season!

Yes, I am loving the SP. She is selling this upbeat jazz piece and the inclusion of the lyrics adds to the program. You can really tell when someone enjoys what they are skating to rather than going through the motions of an imposed music choice. The important thing is that they are working on correcting the flutz rather than shove it under the rug. And good for her for upping her technical layout. I agree that she needs some mileage on it but I think it has potential to become a signature program. Overall, a great first showing.

Only copy-pasting my post from the Russian test skates thread because it‘s late and I‘m lazy but... here we go:

ZHENYA IS KILLING IT! Sorry, wrong thread, should be objective here. So, new try: I love Zhenya‘s program. She‘s visibly enjoying it so much and that‘s great to see. Her 2A looks better, especially the one she did in the warm up, it looks higher. The lutz is still clearly a flutz, no need denying that, but she‘s obviously working on it. She seemed to enter it faster. Together with the backloaded combo she‘s going to greatly improve her tech. I think she might want to improve her lutz this season by adding it in competition even if she‘s risking to get e calls on it. The thing with Brian is, he‘s having his skaters gradually improve the jump layout over the season so we might see a 3F-3Lo from Zhenya one time. I think it won‘t be until next season but here I was thinking she won‘t add a 3Lz, so there‘s that. Overall I love her program, love her interaction with Orser and just everything about her. So much for objectivity.

I‘m really proud of little Alina, too. Who definitely isn‘t so little anymore. She improved a lot artistically from last season. I still don‘t think the music cuts are doing her any favours but I’m still warming up to the program. It won‘t ever be my favorite but she‘s selling it and a few moment are breathtaking. Namely the 2A entrance (which is actually quite scary), that wonderful 3F-Rippon and her music box spins. Overall quite impressive.

Sofia is someone I liked, too. Even though I can‘t stand her tiny jumps, they are so... Satoko-esque. But she‘s definitely selling her program.

Elena looked tentative, her jumps are still with those scratchy landings but at least she‘s jumping triples, I guess... I don‘t know... I love her but this program doesn‘t convince me yet.

But Masha‘s does!! I love, love, love this program and her.

My poor Polina... Shame about the fall, I otherwise really enjoyed this program.

Liza is still not my cup of tea performance wise but as I love her personality + jumps, I‘m rooting for her and I‘m glad she did well. Did I forget someone? Didn‘t see Dasha yet, do we have a video of her?

Unknown. I guess we'll know when we know her coach

please RusFed, not Tsareva or Shelepen

Dasha: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTBtqIamCuE. I think Skyfall's a good vehicle for her. 2A and 3F good, 3Lz-messy 2T in the bonus (clearly supposed to be 3Lz-3T but got wonky on the 3Lz).

I actually quite liked Skyfall. Shame about the mistake but 2A and 3F were clean and beautiful. The program suits her. I really hope it‘s not those two coaches you listed... but somehow have a feeling it‘s going to be Polina.

Me, too. Actually... I agree with all of your post
I guess we'll know tomorrow. And until then I will hold out hope for Davydov.

Thanks. The agreement is mutual. If I wasn‘t on the mobile version most of the time you‘d be seeing me hit the like button for your posts more often.

But isn‘t Davydov at CSKA? Or am I wrong here? Because someone said a spokesperson of the club denied that Dasha was there.. But I‘m fine with anyone actually... just not Tsareva. And Shelepen isn‘t proven at all, even Plushenko seems like a more obvious choice than her. Nothing against her of course, just... I don‘t think there‘s much time for experimenting. This is Dasha‘s chance, she‘s talented and she can use it now or never. Maybe not never but it will become more and more difficult next season and the season after that... That‘s why I‘m hoping for someone who... well... knows what they‘re doing. Not that Shelepen can‘t be a great coach, I don‘t know that obviously but one needs more experience and time to get to a point where an elite coach is already.

OMG, people are finally seeing how amazing Masha is!

You people have been sleeping on her for far too long...

Right, Shelepen can be great, but at this point I don't trust her with a top talent. I'd rather see her build a skater up from the bottom and get them to the top.
I guess... if they denied that she's at CSKA then it'd have to be Shelepen, Tsareva, or Plushenko. But it couldn't be Plushenko because he'd post about her on his instagram. Although why Daria would wait to confirm it if it were Shelepen/Tsareva group like speculated, I don't know. Maybe that's the intrigue.

However, I was under the impression that it was just that she wasn't with Buyanova, not CSKA in general. Who knows? We'll see tomorrow.

I’ve never felt that way about her. Tiny Boss seems very confident and in control. I haven’t had a chance to watch her FS yet though but having seen her skate before I have a lot of confidence in her and her training.

how dare you to say that you haven't watched her FS yet??

Hopefully Masha will have less URs now that the tano is out.
and since her dresses are always gorgeous, I can't wait to see what they are this season
