2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Trusova's skating skills are slightly behind Kostornaya's, but not as much as people seem to imply. And Trusova's more musical than Kostornaya, I don't know how that's debatable if you actually watch them skate... Kostornaya could skate any program of hers to just about any music, she skates with the music on the background. I don't get the feeling that she feels the music she's skating to very much at all. Actually, if someone's PCS would be overscored, it'd be Kostornaya's.

Speaking of which, Kamila Valieva sure is something. Very beautiful no matter what she's doing and she has to be the best spinner right now.

Not sure I saw this coming, but could Anastasia Gulyakova get the Rostelecom spot? I know it's early and she's only competed domestically so far, but she won the St. Petersburg Cup a couple weeks ago, and she has a firm lead in the Cup of Russia event going on right now.

I guess it depends on the FS. If Gubanova stays low and makes mistakes, she's probably out of the running.
Which would leave Gulyakova fighting with Samodurova, and I suppose Pogorilaya, for the host spot

She wasn't a candidate I initially thought would stand a chance of getting it, but she's coming on strong this season it seems. I don't see Gubanova moving up too much. I'd like to see Samodurova get it, and if not her, then Sakhanovich, but I think that's a big outside long-shot right now.

I don't think Trusova is paying the price in PCS as she should be.

I have no problem with her being a power skater and not fitting into a "princessy" box, but she lacks the skating skills and musicality of Kostornaia. I would say her skating skills are about on par with Shcherbakova, but she lacks Shcherbakova's musicality. Her LP suits her well - but it doesn't make up what she lacks in comparison to others.

She's getting the Nathan Chen treatment. Quads = PCS.

No, just no.:palmf:
I know Sasha's skating skills are under-appreciated, but I do not expect them to be THAT under-appreciated.

Would you happen to know the numbers for Nastya T or Alena Kanysheva? Just interesting to compare given they both have pretty good skating skills but don't have the same choreo/team.

Great question!

Nastya T SP: 8 (usually sets of 2)
Nastya T FP: 12-13

Alena Kanysheva SP: 9 (anything from 1-3/set)
Alena Kanysheva FP: 10

Nastya T really does have fantastic glide and coverage. She only needs 2 crossovers to gain substantial speed. Kanysheva is an odd one. She has almost the same number in the SP and FP, but I found her speed in the SP much better. She almost feels labored in the FP, and I found myself wishing she had a few more crossovers thrown in to gain speed.

Eteri TUTBERIDZE - It's NOT normal for me, HOW a man goes away! (NTV, in Russian)

U may translate this Interview & propose to add to video in YT

a person, not a man

btw, very interesting interview, despite being a short one... it needs translation desperately  this interview can create a big drama here

btw i like Trusova's attitude:
I just really wanted to do this myself(quads). Why boys can do that and girls can't? Girls also can!

Wow, I just now watched Valieva's performance and I am speechless. She has improved so much in just a short time with Eteri. That performance was breathtaking.

I agree. Funny that how people were saying Yulia L. didn't listen to music when she was in her prime and then later saying she is an artist when she struggled technnically. Sasha is very good for a 14yr, and much more musical than 14 yr Yulia.

Call me ignorant, but musicality can be trainned and grow in a skaters... so I wouldn´t worry about a 14yo girl having little of it. Is the job of the coreographer to tell her how to move or execute a move to go with the music...
