2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Thank you for sharing this! I love Pooja. Interesting that she has done competitive ballet - but probably a good sign that she is no longer continuing competitive ballet or violin and focusing more on skating. It's great to have hobbies, but making it to the next level in figure skating means having to give up other very serious pursuits.

Pretty wild that she's working on a 4T - I would not have guessed that. Let's see what she and Alex can do.

I agree that I did not think Pooja was one working on a quad but it's comforting that she (and Alex) seem to understand where ladies skating is going. I also think her ballet and violin history is probably helping with how musical she is but it's good that she chose to focus on skating.

Is there a link to the lists of ladies skaters who’ll be competing at all 3 (4?) sectionals competitions? I’m guessing we’ll see Vivian Le, Hanna Harrell, Hannah Miller, Livvy Shilling?

Here’s a link listing the Sectionals competitors based on Regionals.

I’m personally rooting for Liza Kulik. Initially because of her parents, but she is a lovely skater. I’m hoping she’s training more seriously this season; I saw her in a Team Raf group pic, wonder if she’s now being coached by Raf.

I´m not a fan of Gracie, but I hope a "Yuna comeback" for her... she just apeared in Golden Spin with all her triples and better than ever... I wish the same sucess for Gracie

To be fair, Yuna never exhibited any dip in form, so I think Gracie has a harder path to get back to where she was.

Hey there! Is there any footage of Golden Spin? Can you tell me the date of that event?
I'm curious.

Finally, Liza Kulik

I've been waiting for someone to bring her name into the mix. She has a smooth lean style to her skating with obvious russian posture and positioning. I hope she does well. Put up a link if someone has one and you'll see she is someone to watch.

Thanks for the link! 😁

Is this Liza Kulik girl competing as a junior or senior?

LuisRollerArg is referring to the December, 2013, Golden Spin competition.

Yuna skipped the 2013-14 Grand Prix altogether, then did the Golden Spin as a warmup (her only event of the season except for Korean Nationals and the Olympics.)

Here is her short program from that event.

This isn't at all the same. Yuna was the reigning OGM and the World Champ. She may have missed the GP but she was in top form in Worlds. Gracie plummeted after national in 2017. Her skating was pretty bad in 2016-2017, but a few months later she lost all of her jumps! She's has had to train to get herself back into the competitive shape as well as relearn all her jumps. I think wanting her to have a Yuna comeback is vey unrealistic.

How about we enjoy her own "Gracie Comeback" instead? It will take a lot of time, but if you stick with her and have faith I promise it will feel so satisfying when she does get back to her 2015-2016 form.

Yes, yes, yes and yes!!!

Gracie's comeback will not be easy. It just won't. Accept it and be patient! She will get there!!

She didn’t really skip, she withdrew. She had a small ankle injury that forced her to withdraw from the GP series. She competed at Golden Spin for some momentum heading into Sochi. I pretty sure she competed against Miki Ando there.

She did competitive ballet and played the violin and someone still thought to give her those awful programs? :palmf:

Agreed that her consistency is a massive asset. It actually one of the most important of US ladies. As long as she can keep a level head, she can work on improving the rest.

Because both of her programs are by Scott Brown who is known for less than stellar choreography, you have to remember that many of the younger skaters usually cannot afford a better choreographer at that point, so they take what they can get. :sarcasm:
