Our commentators just said that skaters can complain about levels with the technical controller and that a level can be recalled then, but that this seldom happens.

Thanks.

Pah at the Kerrs scores. I really hope Dom/Shab don't medal at worlds.

I am so happy that the Kerrs cracked over 7.00's in Choreography and Interpretation.

Evgeny Platov's tutelage is finally taking effect to the judges. I hope they finish at least 4th.

I am very suspicious of the 27 tech mark for the bulgarians, when they had over 30 all season long. I am thrilled for the French who for once get the place they are really worth of, but I am sure there is more to that. Call me negative if you wish, as I am, but in ice dance, politics counts more than you would like, and this looks like a very very strange thing to me.
It's not that I don't like the russians, it's just that they're just not there yet. Give them one or two seasons and they'll be there, but now is just not worth those marks.
Sad for Albena and Maxim, I wonder where they lost points : the steps or the spin ?

They received level 1 for the spin, same as in GPF. The worst part is what it seems they haven't asked why they got level 1 in St. Petersburg. A friend of mine has looked into that OD frame-by-frame and suggested that the reason is the entrance to the spin. Maxim is rotating on the entry before he sits down and apparently the spin is up in the air whenever or not he complete 1 revolution during this "spining entrance". If he does (or come close to), the spin is turned into a CoSp and got level 1 because it doesn't meet the requirements for the higher level for combination spin. If he doesn't the spin is called level 3 (or 4, I forget which) normal Sp.

But that's just an educated fan opinion, there is nothing official on the reasons from judges.

btw ITA with Anna, for me too it's THE tango of the season.
Albena and Maxim skated much worse than at the GPF where they got around 30 for TES. First Albena nearly stopped at the second sets of twizzles while maxim continued moving, then she collided into the boards, a few mis-steps here and there and rather inaccurate overall.
I don't know what's the problem with the spin, must be what Anna said.

My impressions on the top three and one or two more (from an infrequent ice dance viewer who's intrigued by the current scenario).

BDS = Bulgarian D/S
FDS = French D/S
RDS = Russian D/S

Second russian pair. I've never seen a dance couple that looked more like pairs skaters sans jumps. Free-saktey costumes and tricks, not dance. Inexplicably the crowd loves it.

BDS = wow, most of it seems so effortless that it's easy to overlook how complex it is, yeah he had some twizzle problems and she stumbled a little after hitting the boards with a skate but generally very high quality with a loose quality that makes it look spontaneous

FDS = all in black and they're a black hole attracting attention from everybody else. Sleek and fast they tap into the inherent danger of the tango more than any other couple. I like this better than any OD I've seen in many years.

RDS = I wonder if I would have liked this better if they weren't right after FDS... probably not. Okay but forced and hyperactive, of the flared nostril school of temperament. I thought the PCS were far too high, no way did they have the delivery of FDS

kerrs = haven't solved the problem of how siblings can tango without creeping me out and are sloppy, especially him, especially toward the end

OD Review of Top 3 Couples

The penultimate group OMG! The electricity in the air when the top 3 skated consecutively, once again, I commend the Judges, because it was totally correct. Even though the DelSchoes have stretched their lead, the battle is really for the Gold between them and the Russians - both couples were both technically and artistically way ahead of the Bulgarians - and IMO there was absolutely no controversy with the scores and placements.

I think that DenStav look off the pace to me in every way, technically they had errors, Maxim was off balance in the twizzles on the midline ss, and Albena later caught her blade on the barrier, and almost stumbled. Aesthetically, I can't see their costumes working at all. On the one hand she is wearing a dressy, stoned, sparkly costume, yet he is in a plain white T Shirt, looking tres casual....que? ??? It looks odd to me. When the Duchesnays danced a lazy "Streetcar Named Desire" style Tango in 88, Paul wore an sweaty T Shirt, but Isabelle had a plain slip dress on to accompany him, so it looked matching. I found the Bulgarians just not Gold Medal winning material today.

DelSchoes skated next, and as soon as they stepped onto the ice in haughty Argentine Tango character you could see the difference, the sharpness was there, it was a tour de force technically, sublime in every way, the beauty of their skating just makes you feel both breathless and serene. Their costumes were just soooooo much better than DenStav, he in a gorgeous, stylish, pin striped grey suit that was Haute Couture, she in a stunning long black dress, subtle yet effective. They both had an arrogance of style and presentation, innovative moves that we haven't seen before and kept it up right till the last pose. Deservedly overtook DenStav and opened a large gap. They looked so thrilled in the K&C, and it's such a pleasure at last to see their sublime skills being rewarded and being justifiably at the top.

DomShabs followed, and OMG! Fabulous performance, staggering that they weren't a let down after the French. Again in terms of style, interpretation of the Argentine Tango, costume and performance, aswell as pure skating skills and choreography, it was on another level to DenStav. I thought they might win on Interpretation, but overall the technically slightly superior performance of the French won the day and extended their lead, with the Russians breaking away clearly in 2nd place. Oksana was transformed from a soft, elegant Ballroom Waltzer in the CD to a petulant Latin vixen, she physically looked different and took on the role fully in character the whole way through. Maxim played the part with such a masculine strength, it was wonderful to watch and would compare favourably to any Stage/theatre interpretation. He looked the part in another gorgeous suit with hair tied back. I thought their choreo was stunning, Sergei Petukhov was right on top form with this dance, and they didn't just skate, they danced with abandon, showing off innovative lifts and moves that were completely new to me. There was one stunningly effective move, where Maxim held a straight line balance lift with Oksana wrapped around him in a low position with his arms and hands in classic Tango pose, sooo effective and stylish! YAY! Such a pleasure to watch. What is this controversy about their elevation this season? They are a talented couple who have improved greatly, what I've seen so far in the CD and OD they are quite rightly in 2nd place, had the French not been perfect so far they could easily have been 1st, but I'm happy to see the lovely DelSchoes 1st - who deserves it more than they? I love them with all my heart. The top 2 today made me swoon and that's why I love Ice Dance with a passion. :)

To La Rhumba about the costumes and the concept.
At the last competition i had to explain FD and it's the turn of OD.-------Well,the concept is simple-Maxim is the "macho",he is at the bar and he sees HER.He don't know anything about her.May be she is rich(probably)and his only aim is to attract her attention,and he does it!

WOW! If he's rich, I certainly didn't get that impression. He looked more like a car mechanic or a labourer, but thankyou for explaining it. I appreciate it :)

Which is what most tango's are usually about! :cool:

In an interview Albena said they got level 4 for the same spin in a earlier comp and couldn't understand why it was level 1 now. She also said it wasn't a combination spin. But that is what the judege "said" it was, a combiantions spin, and that's why it was level 1. At least this is what was reported on Eurosport in Sweden.
