2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

The GOEs are not criminal. If you look actually at the requirements for GOEs and how to get +3-5 the judging is accurate especially considering that Elizaveta often takes a long time to prepare her jumps which leads to the judges having to deduct points from her GOEs. The judging was fair imo.

the only jump that could deserve it is her 3A. Everything else is just fine - compare her setups to Kostner's setups for example.

More updates:
1. Trusova like Shcherbakova: 4Lz-3T and then 4Lz with a fall. She also doubled the planned 4T but won anyway. Kostornaya second.

Nationals qualifications:
Four spots left but we have to leave one for Tarusina who I can't see not winning in stage 5. So, three spots:
1. Gubanova (3+3)
2. Nugumanova (2+5)
3. Talalaikina (3+4) with a higher score than Shilenko (also 3+4)
Shilenko first alternate, Vasilieva second alternate.

My personal pipe dream would be if Vasilieva (and Shilenko) got substituted in via coaches' council instead of those on the GP with disappointing results.

To be honest, I prefered Alena today to Sasha. Her jumps seem so much better. She may not have quads, but she lands more smoothly and overall it fits the program better. Sasha's program today was somewhat messy. Compared to last year she improved, there is program through the whole four minutes (as opposed to boom-bam-bam QUADZZZZZ and then looking slightly exhausted throughout the rest of program and barely getting any rotations on the last spin). Still, I wished she worked more on her artistry and overall presentation (I don't mind her different programs, but she is not pulling it off yet to me).

well, let's see what they both do on JGPF.

Scenario 1: assuming that Alina will win Rostelecom, if Mako gets a silver there then Zhenya will need at least a silver at IDF with a score higher than Kaori's 213.90

This scenario has other caveats. I think if Bradie Tennell or Mai Mihara win and Mako has silver at Rostelecom, she still won't qualify right? (assuming Kihira is placing 4th or higher)

I never thought I’d ever see Sasha pop a jump; she’s so brave. I’m glad that she didn’t let that (and the fall on 4Lz) affect the rest of her program.

Alena was beautiful, and while I personally thought her PCS should’ve been more than 2 points ahead of Sasha’s, I’m just happy that she’s back at her best after breaking her finger in Ostrava. Anastasia was wonderful and it’s lovely to see her back in top form.

It's really hard to avoid the impression that the judging at NHK Tropy was criminally favoritist to home skaters. Liza was not alone in suffering from that.

Kihira was scored fairly, and was a revelation for the Japanese ladies. Finally, a real successor to Mao’s superstardom. Domestically, she will soon retire the Queen of Underserved High Scores anyway. :rolleye:

Masha:

Is it Buyanova or is it university?

If it is Buyanova, then I really hope that this isn’t the path that Nastya and Polina will have to go down as well... (actually Polina’s already on the path)

Fun fact: five different ladies tried 3Lz-3Lo in seniors today (and Anna in juniors). All six were successful.
Congratulations to Gubanova, Vasilieva, Nugumanova, Shcherbakova, Trusova, and Ogoreltseva!
Natasha is a sentimental favorite of mine :)

She won World's over Michelle Kwan in 1989 and so won a world medal before Irina.

I think Irina won a medal (maybe bronze?) at Worlds in 1998, so I believe the original poster was correct with Irina being the first.

What about Irina Slutskaya? She lasted much longer than any of them and had a wonderful comeback from an illness. And was the first Russian to get a world medal, wasn't she? And how many Russian ladies went to multiple Olympics?

Kira Ivanova attended three Olympics. Tragic life, dealt with alcoholism and was violently murdered at the age of 38.

Ok, so I’m late to the party, but was there a Russian Cup competition going on today in which Trusova, Kostornaya, and Gubanova competed against each other?? Cool! Who won?!?

it looks like Buyanova. Masha (no improvement over last years) and Polina and Elena struggling. Nastya not there yet, but her programs and packaging this season are just nope

Vasilieva was wonderful. Can't figure out the low score for her.

Actually, both Maria and Irina won medals at worlds 1998: Irina, silver; Maria, bronze. So they share the title as first. Then Maria won Worlds the next year, 1999

Wow...great day for everyone really. So many ladies have something to be proud of. Sasha and Anna getting those monster combos under their feet was definitely a mission accomplished moment. Alena showed her full potential again and blessed us with great performances that we can remember and rewatch for years to come. Anastasiia again found herself on the tough road to qualifications and persevered yet again and made her way to nationals. These girls work so hard and it’s nice to see them all get rewarded in one way or another.

I’m so pumped for JGPF!! I think like last year it could be the best event of the year :yay:

You’ve all heard of Tarusina doing the same spin twice and losing 4-5 points for the invalid element, now get ready for...

Vasilieva doing 3Lz, 3F, and 3Lo twice each in a program with zero 3Ts and losing points for the invalid Lo AND the missing T.

(...they both have the same coach, don’t they?)

Yes I noticed this to! It is such a strange mistake to make, like dont the coaches know the rules?? All of her jumps where fantastic but she must have missed out on about 5pts from that mistake which realy was the coaches fault...
