I wonder if he going for the 4CC gold. He should get TAT to adopt him so he can go for the European gold 😂

My mother also said watching Men in NHK, "No one is wearing the costumes like Hanyu-kun's..." and she was clearly disappointed

The rest of the men have resigned themselves to being a backdrop to Yuzuru's sparkly magnificence :dance2: Let's face it, even now he's wearing black, he still glitters them all out of sight....

Rostelecom week is here setting my sched to be available on Yuzu's skate.
Yuzu's costumes are just eye candy for me.
For some it might be too over the top but hey its the overloard of extraness we are talking about here.

See my tagline  I actually think that if he did do what the Australian commentator said and skated in his underarmour, he would still outshine pretty much everyone, we've seen practices where no one can take their eyes off him. And we probably wouldn't complain much (well, not too much, I adore his UA, black gloves and black blades. But given that I also love his sparkles, and Origin is now one of my three favourite costumes of all time, I probably would still whimper a little for its loss)

http://behindphotos.com/showcases.html?id=442 BEHIND site's Helsinki gallery is full of great photos of Yuzu, while we wait for first sightings at COR.

Wow, they are gorgeous pictures (pardon my smirk that of 87 photos, over 40 were of one competitor. I'm allowed to gloat here, after all...)

Since you mentioned it, I just went to check out of curiosity. Plushenko has won GP Finals 4X. So now Yuzuru & his beloved Plu-san are tied at 4.

WC though, back in the old(x10) days, Mr Salchow has won it 10 times, for 2 countries. One Karl Shafer had won the title 7 times, consecutively, way back in 1930s.

In more modern times, Scott Hamilton won 4 times.
So, Yuzuru has....sufficient motivation to continue competing records wise.
I think the max number of times Yuzu can win Worlds is about 6 times, because it's highly unlikely he will continue competing after Beijing 2022.

I am only hoping he will be able to equal/tie with Scott Hamilton & Kurt Browning at 4 WCs, if he wants to have a go at it.
With the current tech content hard for the men to keep on winning. Injuries get in the way, as we have seen.

I will take whatever Yuzu can give becuase anything after PC 2018 is already excess.
Honestly I don't know how he feels but imo he still needs to stir the pack (current competing skaters) to push for more.
Otherwise things will get boring.

the origin is the simplest of all...oh i almost forgot ballade no.1 and parisienne walkways costumes :yay:. But it isn't yuzu if he just wears a shirt and pants on ice (ice show not included)

it hurts to see him retire but i hope he finish that 4A (:scratch3:) (hopefully next season) and be done. I don't really want to see him in Beijing and skate there because of duty and not his own will.

It's almost time for COR, here's a translation of a Finnish News article about Yuzu in Helsinki.

The part where Virtanen said about Yuzu never really have to go to school nor to study on the side is off putting. We all know he goes to Waseda University and receive high marks. He always talk about when he isn’t skating or training he is busy studying...... maybe because Yuzu make everything look easy? When it’s not .... 🙄

If he gets another Olympic Gold in Beijing the WC records will seem like accessories in comparison [emoji23]. I have a feeling he is going to do 4 straight seasons. The way he changed to Kuyashii in 3 days speak for itself.

By the way, 4 World Championship Gold Title will be an honor for hanyu [emoji954].

I am not happy with that part either. Yuzuru used to travel back and forth between Japan and Canada to finish his high school that he was literally attending. This guy thinks Yuzuru has been put into skating since childhood and everyone/everything was in perfect order to mold him into the champion that he is now. It is remarkable that this skater is working as a doctor to pay his fees but he can not assume that Yuzu has not gone through similar periods in his life. It is unfortunate that we humans tend to assume the stars were all aligned for successful people to justify our own placements compared to them :noshake:

Hahaha, cos I'm thinking he would only go on another 2 years. By 2022, he'll be 27, whether his body, esp his ankles can take it.
Previous times, the men didnt have to do multiple quads to win a title.

Yes unlike a lot of skaters Yuzu wasn't even home schooled. He attended primary and high school, entered a top college under standard exam conditions close to the Olympic year without delaying it (and not through sports program or scholarship), which meant he had little training time with his normal student life on top of his asthma (Brian expressed his shock of Yuzu's lack of training time when he first went to TCC, Yuzu even thought a 2 hour training session was a luxury). Even though he attends college online now, he still has to sit through lectures, do assignments, take exams, which all takes time just like physically attending one, and Waseda is no walk in the park either. Just because he and the Japanese media don't make a big deal out of balancing study and skating doesn't mean he hasn't been doing it and doing it remarkably well his whole life. It's just compared to all his other on and off ice achievements, being a top student is already a relatively ordinary feat.

The comment might not made in malicious intent tho. It is highly possible Virtanen is just not aware on Yuzu's situation unlike fans who are following his every move. Also, if compared to other skaters' situation, Yuzu is one of the privileged ones, isn't he? He is surrounded by a supportive team and at his level he does not really need to think about how to finance his training anymore.
