Yuzuru Hanyu: 2018-2019

I am so glad we got Charlie's commentary, he is always my favorite out of all the commentators. He speaks with the obvious knowledge of a skater and never fails to mention the details that make Yuzu's programs special, like he talked about the transitions here and why it's so hard to pull off the 3A with that entry, and the way he complimented his movements and facial expressions. It's not something you usually hear. He knew Yuzuru usually starts slow and commented on it, and even on the fact that he memorizes other skaters' programs. He always says lots of amazing things about Yuzu but not as a fanboy (which is also pretty fun to listen as the Italian Eurosport commentators or the Spanish Commentators), but as someone who possesses some deep knowledge of the sport (well duh, it's Charlie White ) and because of that he appreciates all that Yuzuru can do as a skater.
Thank you so much for posting it!

In case any of you were curious about the CBC commentary for his GP Helsinki LP, it's at the 1:26 mark, plus there's a "Coming Up" fluff at the beginning (the password is men): https://vimeo.com/296555177 His SP wasn't broadcast on Canadian television.

Thank you all so much for the video commentaries!

I do have to say, non-fans are going to get salty and sick of the words "two time Olympic champion" waaaay before the commentators do, let alone us - I think Andrea Joyce and Charlie White threw it in more that I would dare! (If anyone finds their FS commentary, pleasepleaseplease....) And Kurt and Carol over at CBC are now fully fledged Hanyu fans, let's face it :rofl2:

So much compliments on his skating, so much shade on his costume!

Nor surprised at the latter  and we do agree he looks superb in the plain black practice gear (better than pretty much everyone else because of those lines) but if all the commentators haven't worked out by now that Yuzu will do Yuzu (it took me what, weeks?)....

ps - the poster said she'd put up the FS by the same channel, and she has :) https://twitter.com/yuz_mak/status/1060491623920857088

I don't know, if this has been mentioned here already, but can we please talk about THE goosebumper of 18/19?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fMDUdEkP1U&t=144s

I mean: How many skaters (male, female, pair, dance) have experienced a screaming madness like this BEFORE the step sequence?!:rock:

Oh yes, that moment, the buildup and then the absolute ROAR.... that was the moment I thought (in my third viewing because the first two were more a @#$e%&!#s%#@*&$@!!! thought ) that I would really really hate to be the next skater this year when Yuzu's on form and on a rampage. Because there are moments in both programs that are brilliantly structured to build the intense drama and wind up the audience, and that is sooooo one of them.

How must it feel to be the focus of that?

I loved his NBC Olympics 4K commentary too. During the ladies he shared that before he moved to ice dance he had all of his triples up to the axel, so that explains why he has such good technical knowledge.

I remember Charlie seemed to be nice to Yuzuru after SP of Worlds 2017. Yuzuru finished in 5th but Charlie might have known he would come back strong in FS

Found the video, I just love this short interview :luv17:

I remember this. In Charlie We Trust!!

They split the commentary. Johnny, Tara, and usually Terry do the free skates because that's aired Sundays on NBC (usually only the final ladies and men's groups unless it's a notable American). Then throughout the following week they air the whole competition on The Olympic Channel where they'll bring in other commentators for short and ice dance and then it's an extended play of Johnny and Tara commentating on free skates for everyone. Prior weeks they used Ryan Bradley and Tanith for the SPs but this week they used Charlie (who I love) and Andrea. Terry wasn't with Johnny and Tara because he was covering gymnastics worlds.

As for non-fans, they can roll their eyes all day but facts are facts :confused2:. He did the thing :cool14:.

Not to mention that you have to slalom around +1000 Poohs when you enter the ice and the number of plushies is growing exponentially with Yuzu's skating qualities...:palmf:

Next step: resurfacer+shovel on top speed clearing tons of plush out of the way for the next skater
Alternative: ISU Communication #2210 - Yuzuru Hanyu is always skating last

Man, I never thought that anything would replace R&J 2 as my favorite Yuzu costume, but Otonal has. :luv17:

There was a slight change in the otonal costume coloring, there are now some blue streaks that are added to the bottom of the costume and sleeves, which is nice. --Still would like it to be a tad bit longer and more vibrant blue.

Still, it's a definite 'Yuzu' costume. Frills and bling!

I wonder how many poohs there will be at worlds this year? You might not be able to see the ice
