There’s been other skaters with coaches since childhood who eventually end up leaving but Raf/his team seem equally committed to him in a way most coaches aren’t to skaters so probably would be hard for him to get the same level of support he’s used to with any other coach.

Well I just remember when he was with Marina that he wasn't particularly close to the people at the Lakewood rink. Or at least it seemed he was closer to Patrick and the Shibs than to Adam and Ashley. Romain, Mariah, Sebastien, and the others had just arrived so he wasn't very close to them yet, so it was easier for him to be away in Michigan.

I was talking about his attachment to Raf and his team (meaning Vera/Nadia etc), not so much the other skaters themselves. It would be hard for him to build the same level of trust and support with another group of coaches than the one he currently has, they know him inside out and most coaches wouldn't put up with this current arrangement for their skater.
 
Just wanted to mention I loved Nathan's game plan of meeting up with Raf in Russia to get some training in. Good thinking. Gives him a little time to get accustomed to the time change too.
 
i like the interview but i hate the video quality and i cant understand anything liza is saying... but that's okay they are both perfection

So he left raf to train with patrick coach? Damm i never knew that, interesting was raf mad with that af all? Lol

ETA:
sheetz’s post reminded me of Nathan’s posts of the fun time training with Patrick and the Shibs. I don’t think Nathan would have very hard time finding another groups of coaches and training mates given his talents, work ethics, drive, easy going personality, and more importantly, he is maturing at such an amazing speed. It sure would take some time to build the level of knowledge and trust, and sure it would have its ups and downs, which is probably not worth the hassle. So to me it is more of emotional attachment to team RAF and loyalty.

Nathan never officially left Raf. He just went to Marina for choreography...and stayed. It was a bizarre situation where he had dual coaches and every week somebody would switch the order of the coaches on his ISU bio.

And at one point Raf was removed from the ISU bio! Of course Raf was mad and gave a Russian interview.
 
The coaches weren’t being clear with each other from what I gathered about that whole thing. As far as Nathan was concerned, in his mind Raf was always his coach and Marina was just helping him for a bit with choreo but there was this weird drama among Raf and Marina about their respective titles when it came to Nathan. It was really just their silly drama and Nathan wasn’t trying to be apart of it bc he was asked about it at the time and he made it clear what he thought the situation was and left it at that.

Marina LOVES Nathan tho so I can understand why she wanted to claim him and Raf is territorial over Nathan eventho he tries to act aloof lol
