Don't get me wrong I don't want to egalize their popularity  this is really just information. You could see similar things in Plushenko's peaktime in Russia, in Japan..

Yeah, I got no idea about Plushenko's popularity actually, because as I mentioned, I really started watching skating at the beginning of 2017 :D so everything before that is pretty much unknown to me :o:

I usually do not quote myself, but I have to share this one from the Edge (Best Quality and Biggest Flaw)

Yuzuru Hanyu: BF - Lack of rhythm comparatively. Tends to skate to similar style programs and repeats choreographic elements.
Yuzuru Hanyu BF: likes recycling way too much, poor posture when tired
Yuzuru Hanyu: BF = Injury prone, narrow range of programmes

When repetition is your biggest flaw :laugh2:

I've taken a closer look at his competitive programs since seniors and I would classify them as follows:

Classic: Etude in D-sharp, Ballade No. 1, Otonal
Musical: Notre Dame de Paris, Phantom of the Opera
Drama/ filmscore: Romeo & Juliet (1.0 & 2.0)
Japanese taiko/ filmscore: Seimei
Japanese classic/orchestral/piano: White Legend, Hope & Legacy
Gypsy/ violin: Zigeunerweisen
Blues-Rock: Parisienne Walkways
Rock-Pop: Let's go crazy
Easy listening/ violin: Origin

What's missing?
- Some real dance actually (standard/latin/modern dance...)
- Other unused music styles: R&B/Soul, Jazz, Hardrock/Metal, Folk, Epic Orchestral, Country, Bollywood...
- Comedy or parody (I would really like to see him skate a parody of himself tbh...)
It was so much fun thinking of various music styles, which Yuzu has not used yet.
Particularly that idea of him skating to Bollywood...

I love Yuzu's programs the way they are and would be just fine with it if he never makes them more varied. That being said, I don't think there's much if anything that he couldn't make work.

...Also, full confession, I had the whole rink to myself at the beginning of the freestyle session today, and the first thing I did was go out to the middle and do the ending pose to SEIMEI.

Wow, Interspectator, that is gorgeous!!

I hope the doctor and Yuzu makes the best long term decision. He has 4 GPF Gold Medals, 1 more won't make that much difference to his current legacy. I understand that maybe Yuzu doesn't want to give away the GPF title again to Nathan or someone else as he missed it last year, but I wish he competed for a long time with a healed, healthy body.

While we worry, it's best to remember that Yuzuru can get diagnosed and treated by the very best available, no expense spared. Whatever possible can be done to help him, will be.

Continuing to cheer for Yuzu today!
I got the urge to paint him again late last night so here it is:

This costume is so amazing for inking and black and white styles.
Took about 3 hours to complete.

Ooooh.... that is gorgeous, and just what I needed this morning.

Orser sees his injury is not worse than the one in NHK because he couldn't put his foot on the ground back then.

I hope Orser is right but even if he is right, it might be better for Yuzuru to aim for Nationals than GPF. But I take his and his team's every choice and support them. Get well soon, Yuzuru

Well... NHK was bad. I remember Orser talking about it in the Olympic feature — that when he first saw Yuzu again, Yuzu was on crutches and in a cast, and Orser told him (paraphrased), “If you want to set world records, lulzno, but if you want to win the Olympics, that’s doable.” (Brian Orser: please adopt all of us. You are the world’s boring-but-invaluable uncle.)

As far as Nationals go, Yuzu doesn’t need to compete (he’s going to Worlds). And I can’t see a situation in which the GPF is a bad idea but Japanese nationals are a-okay — they’re too close on the calendar, plus conditioning loss from time spent off-ice, etc. As much as it hurts, it’s probably best to shelve both (assuming that’s the medical advice) and focus on 4CC and Worlds instead.

I’m just absolutely gutted for Yuzu. I was watching a livestream of practice and saw the fall in real time — I was up late myself and sobbing/screaming in pain because autoimmune — and I kept trying to tell myself he took his time getting up because he was sulking. You know. Because that makes sense. But it’s just... yes, some of this is a natural consequence of training quads for 8+ years, and this is a brutal sport. And yet seeing Yuzu so happy and comfortable with himself this season, it feels like yet another round of some twisted “good news/bad news” joke. Good news: you’re going to be born with a body that’s aerodynamically perfect for figure skating! Bad news: have this asthma.

Hearing him speak English so proficiently was such a dead giveaway in terms of how much more confident and at peace he was this season. (This is also why you speak a foreign language more freely after a few drinks. Not even joking.) I was just so happy for him.

I understand what he means about each unhappiness being the start of a new bit of luck... but it’s also a terrible way to live. (Darkly: I would know. I’ve been using that line as a “joke” since the moment of birth.) At this point, I know better than to hope for good news, but maybe, just maybe, Yuzu can catch a break and the news will be “the least worst of only bad options.” That’s ... luck.

Thank you, but you should include more information in that tweet as "decide if he'll come back" can lead people to the wrong assumptions. It makes it sound as if he'll retire depending on this diagnosis or something.

See here for a more detailed translation.
