2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

The ladies’ event at IDF just ended. I can already sense people in this thread about to scream that (insert skater) is done.

Congrats to Sofia for being russian no.3
but next year it will be difficult for her to get into the GPF again

for next year

A skaters

Zagitova, Tuktamysheva, Trusova, Tarakanova, Kostornaia, Svherbakova, Samodurova

B skaters

Medvedeva, Gulyakova, Gubanova, Konstantinova, Sotskova ? Radionova ?

It’s a shame for Evgenia, but on a positive note I’m so so happy for Sofia!! I think she’s been great this season and deserved to make the final.

Yup... I'm wondering what's going on. Both programs Zhenya seemed to be stressed and scared of being on the ice. I don't know what's going through her mind but I'm hoping in the time between competitions, Brian, Tracy, and her team are able to figure everything out. Her practices seem fine... it seems to be more of a mental block than anything. I'm worried that the result is not going to be in any way a confidence booster and I hope doesn't become a mental block. :(

Well, at this point it seems Alina is Russia's number one, but with reluctantly and with tears in her eyes with Tuktik breathing on her back in her bra...

I would not count ZHenya out yet. Stanislava once again proven she can skate well, but she does not do that always. There is no way Maria will helicopter her way to the third spot again.

There is still Sofia, but she does not have enough reputation to get her the third spot as of now... (I am guessing they will send Zhenya to Euros, unless she totally bombs the nationals and depending on the result there worlds spot will be decided).

Aww, poor Zhenya :(. I know it will be hard but I believe she can do it and come back to get the third spot.
But Sofia also wants it, and I can't wait to see her in the GPF. If Zhenya can't be there, she really deserves it.

hopefully this will give her more time to search what is missing this season
officially she is russian no.4 on par with Konstantinova, next year is the real challenge, she needs to shape up or the young juniors will not be forgiving.

I‘m so happy for sofia!!
2 years in a row she made it to the grand prix final and two years in a row not many people expected her to be that good!

I am sure that the team "Medvedeva is on the right track" will put the blinders and keep going on. No, no, no, no. She is not on the right track. Just look at her face and the face of Borser in K&C. Those are not faces of people who are on the right track. She has to ask for Eteri's forgiveness as soon as possible because now she may not make the team this year already. And this will be the end of her "non Leonova career".

She was my inspiration after Yulia retired. She was one of a kind. I even started a thread some time ago: "Can Medvedeva become the best ever?" Now behind the talks about "improvements" I see her becoming an average skater with North American style. I am very sad today.

Someone else posted an interview with Orser: He said he is making Evgenia's skating from a "young girl's" to that of an adult, and during this time, she will not be able to jump and she will look awkward. Amazingly his prediction came true.

I wonder if he actually means Evgenia was required to spend more time on basic skating skills and less time on jumps. If one does not spend enough time on jumping, falls will happen. That sounds a very silly strategy.

this season there is still time, but she has to shape up for next season will be very different.

I'm very sad for Evgenia but at the same time very happy for Sofia. They'll battle it out for Russia's nr 3 at nationals.

So now Mishin has two students in the GPF, who would have thought before the season started ;)

I feel her problems started UNDER Eteri... that is why she left. She does NOT have to humiliate herself to make Eteribots happy.

Evgenia had several injuries going on (including back injury). And now there is immense pressure on her from people who decided to hate her just because she left Eteri.

Hopefully, she can figure out her problems before the nationals and do what is the best for her. Remember, Tuktik came back after several lackluster seasons. So Evgenia can do it too, maybe.
