2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I asked not your opinion

It is not my opinion. I just repeated some articles :) I know that is lots of money for many Russians but we all know the Fs is not a cheep sport. Plus that is his ice rink he pays every bills he pays 7-8 coaches, etc.

Im verry interested in how they will resolve GP spots for next season.
In the Top 24 SB:
Zagitova
Trusova
Tuktamysheva
Sherbakova
Medvedeva
Kostornaia
Sachanovich
Tarusina
Samodurova
Konstantinova
Leonova

In the top 24 WS but not top 24 SB:
Sotskova

Apart from this there are other skaters with a chance of getting on the top 24sb list if they do well in their upcoming competitions (Tarakanova, Gubanova, Guliakova).

This is 12 skaters (with potential for one or two more) guaranteed one spot (but if Iunderstand correctly skaters on these lists almost allways get 2spots) but there is only 18 spots for russian skters. If all of these get one then only 6can get 2. I dont see rusfed letting this happen. Have this situation occured before? That skaters guaranteed a spot didnt get one due to the contrys quota already being full?
its possible RusFed didnt let juniors compete in senior, it has happened before. Also skaters might retire. Leonova probably wont be in top 24 too. This will be interesting to see who got 2 spot.

I think the only reason why she left Turenko was hoping to see bigger scores in Russia to earn better spots, cause she was already doing great, arguagbly better than now.

Sakhanovich was strong here, Konstantinova missed the final for essentially one bad SP, Leonova did well at NHK and was underscored imo, Gulyakova was great at domestic competitions. if nothing changes at Nationals, i think Gulyakova and Sakhanovich deserve a good placement and some spot on next GP season.

I think this is very much a CSKA problem, where Buyanova right now has:

- Maria Sotskova (9th at NHK, 7th at GPF)
- Polina Tsurskaya (4th at ONT; 7th at SA; 8th at RC)
- Elena Radionova (injured, WD)
- Anastasiia Gubanova (4th at TT; GS TBD)
- Sergei Voronov (2nd at ONP; 3rd at SA; 2nd at NHK)
- Kirill Iakovlev (2nd at JGP Lit; 4th at JGP Cze)
- Artur Danielian (4th at JGP Arm; 5th at JGP Slo)
- Maxim Kovtun (-)

I don't know why she has such a large group, but it doesn't make too much sense when you have to deal with so many skaters who only joined your group few months ago, and on the other hand you have another coach (Davydov) who only has 2 skaters, and Goncharenko retired.

Yes Nastya leaving Tsurenko was surprising. I hope she does not regret that move down the road.

Tuktamysheva mentioned in an interview that it is going to be her last season. She wants to retire.
Sotskova may retire as well. She's studying a full-time at university.

Even if they do retire we still have 10 skaters guaranteed one spot (unless Gubanova, Guliakova and Tarakanova does something good next week) but only 9 spots to give (asuming everyone gets 2)

i think some skater might get 1 eventually. They all are guaranteed only 1, unless they placed in fop 12 at worlds which make them guaranteed 2 .

huge step up for Sakhanovich, disappointing Gubanova (unfortunately all CSKA ladies failed so far this season), Panenkova about the same (compared to previous years it's a mess)

Not entire CSKA, just Buianova's girls. Sergei Davydov does pretty well with his girls (Anna Tarusina, Viktoria Vasilieva).

I assume Pogorilaya and Radionova would be eligible for a return GP next year (should they make a comeback), like Gracie this year, right?

I’m just gonna say it.....I cried with Serafima today. What a passion she has for this great sport. It’s so nice to see her rewarded and do as much as she can to become eligible for a GP spot. She can’t control the politics but she can go out there and hit her goals and that’s exactly what she did. Whether or not it pays off isn’t even the point. She’s done everything she can do on her end! We’ve seen her rise to the top in juniors and then enter a phase of severe struggle. Now we’ve seen her hard work and commitment starting to pay off. You don’t have to be the most consistent and most likely to win medals. Just train hard and hope it pays off. I’m so glad she’s found coaches who believe in her and help her stay the course.

Who knows where this road goes from here but at the very least she has given hope to struggling skaters facing near impossible odds. All those folks who love to predict doom and gloom once trouble starts have lost a little bit of ground. Most importantly I hope young struggling competitors can be inspired by her to continue to push forward and fight! IMO the good guys scored a home run today. :medal"

GP spots for next season are going to be a bloodbath

does anyone know how to contact the ISU? I want to know what they're planning on doing about this... would not be fair if some in top 24 could only get one but those below them from a smaller country got 2

It will be total cut-throat among Rus ladies. :drama:

After this Zhenya's interview in which she denied that she told Eteri about Alina on OG (about holding her for another year in juniors), I finally figured out what exactly she said in K&C after FP.

We start from NBC video:

1) 55.37: "Ну, теперь у вас есть олимпийская чемпионка, поздравляю." (Well, now you have an Olympic champion, congratulations.)
2) 55.44: "Я сделала все, что я могла..." (I did everything I could...)

Now we are switch to this short video and "stitch" it with the previous video - "I did everything..." at 1.28

2')1.28: "Я сделала все, что я могла, о чем вы и просили." (I did everything I could, that you have asked me)
3) 1.33: "А вы сделали все, чтобы Алина выиграла в короткой и в произвольной" (And you did everything to Alina won in Short and Free)
4) 1.40: "Я сделала максимум. Я сделала максимум." (I did the maximum [my best], I did the maximum.)
Eteri something said to her
4) 1.44: "Да!" (Yes!)

That's it. After this Eteri told her - "I disagree with you" - it was well heard in the regular recording, and they left K&С. No other words were said before.

In the second video you have to read lips, but everything is VERY well read. Except "Alina won" - at this moment, Eteri little shakes Zhenya, and Dudakov intentionally blocks the camera with his right hand. At russian fso-forum Zhenya's defenders said that they interpreted this vague moment as:
"А вы сделали все, чтобы я не выиграла в короткой и произвольной" (And you did everything so that I didn't win in Short and Free). But for me it's equal.

Yes, Zhenya did not say those words, and formally she is right. And Eteri told another in a May interview, and formally she lies.

Formally.

honestly all this is so much speculation at this point.
Can we set Zhenya aside until russian nationals? Im quite tired of all the russian media freaking out, zhenya this zhenya that zhenya everywhere.

Tuktik was going to release a video with Sonia. Did she already?

Doesn't seem like it. Maybe they are adding subtitles to it. (She said that her videos in Russian would have English subtitles.)

Also Sotskova is high up in WS so she still can get GP even though she's out of top 24 SB.

In the top 24 WS but not top 24 SB:
Sotskova
As far as I know - WS will be updated at the end of spring/at the beginning of summer to include latest season results and to exclude results from 2016/2017 season. Also results from 2017/2018 will be counted with 70% weight only. Therefore final WS for Sotskova should be lower than they are now (she can easily be out of top 24 for example). And that is usually occurring BEFORE ISU and federations will begin to decide GP assignments.

I doubt that they will answer you though :rolleye:

I don't mean to stir up any more drama around this, but I don't remember Eteri alleging that Zhenya made that statement about Alina at the Olympics. I always understood it as Eteri alleging that Zhenya asked her to keep Alina in juniors just generally sometime last season.

but so does everyone else. many skaters who did well or have quite few points in 16-17 season but not doing so well now will have the point erased, like Rika Hongo, Marin Honda, Laurine Lecavelier, Mirai Nagasu, Gabby Daleman, Karen Chen. Sotskova did well enough in 17-18 season, going into Olympic, GPF silver, placing in top 10 at WC.
