Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Quote from Spot: I meant something more like the music in this ballet promo/trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5vEgE3IJQ0 (Btw. if anyone has a chance to see it, please do! It is the best ballet I have ever seen live)

I think Gabi and Guillaume would be fantastic on this kind of music because it actually would underline their incredible fluidity but allow them also to show their unmatched whole body movements, work on syncopation AND to mix in some sharp rhythmic head and arm work. I honestly would LOVE it. As much as I love the ballad, it almost comes across as too "saccharine", not adding contrast to their fluidity.
I am officially totally taken by their RD

That is exactly what I think too! It would be a very interesting and complementary contrast!

It's in French but you can vote for the French Athlete of the year scroll down just keep on clicking and click yes/oui for P/C they are at 43% right now. https://sport.francetvinfo.fr/omnisport/retro-2018-elisez-votre-francaise-de-lannee

Voted :) I could not ony vote for P/C so I added my beloved Martin Fourcade and also Kevin Mayer. They are champions in relatively unknown disciplines. They don't seek either fame or money, just the beauty of the sport. They reached it and they are pushing themselves even further. I really hope it's going to be among MF, KM and P/C.

Now, little rant. Can't believe MBappe is up there just above P/C. That could be because I can't stand football lol or because he has yet to achieve something. He is still at the very beginning of his career compared to a legend of the sport like Fourcade. But anyway, I hope P/C will at least be on the podium. They are doing a fantastic job and on top of that, for a federation whose president is a dummy :D

Same vote!! i love them, incredible champions in a league of their own.:hap10::hap93:

Most of you must have seen this fan recording of their RD performance but just in case I'll put it here because it is from the opposite side of the judges and in my opinion we get more details from that angle. Plus we can see how fast and razor sharp that last set of twizzles is and how close they are.
I love their non touching step sequence, I find it more intricate than last year's and much more distinct in terms of being in character.

About their FD rotational lift, I'm very impressed by the ice Guillaume covers and the speed of rotation. Plus he just casually lifts is foot yet absolutely doesn't lose any speed balance or even wobble. Often times when a skater start raising one foot of the ground I always get stressed because it tends to break the flow with some minute breaks in the rotation or worse he becomes really unstable even among the best of the best. They just keep improving which is great to see.

As for the music, I have said it before but I would love them to attempt Rite of Spring, it might not be adaptable for an ice dance FD though.

I think it could! They could get input from people like Benoit Richaud: it would be right up his alley! :)

 And biathlon season starts very soooooooooooooon !! Another great match between Fourcade and Boe. I can't wait to see that. And the must ? No animosity between the fans or the athlete. Peace and love are biathlon's favorite words :)

Love the Rite of Spring. They could work with POB and get inspiration from Pina Bausch's ballet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBJv1S5xYT4.
Or go outside of the figure skating box and work with contemporary choreograph. I personally really like Forsyth. I wonder how his vision of dance would fit in the rink. I kind of want to see something completely destructured. I am sure someone like Sylvie Guilem, who herself, tried to think and feel her dancing differently could help them push their own boundaries. So many different directions could be explored and P/C are the ideal skaters for that.

That has the potential of being as iconic as the Torvill and Dean ‘Bolero’!! I frankly would like them to tackle one of the Rachmaninov piano concertos just to show how a Rach should be done!! And no one else would ever dare follow suit after! :-)

Ok the next person who dares saying P/C can do sensual I'll just show them this there are a lot of nice gif highlighting all the great details from the RD in this account. A nice treat for the week end and waiting for hopefully other stunning extra slow mo from French Nationals.

Someone can make a summary of what say the spanish commentator

Thank You :agree:

Here is a rough translation, sorry !
"- You forget they have skates on their feet… Really, you forget totally, you let yourself be drawn by them…
- Each season, they find new variations like with the spin at the end, very original… But I need to watch that program more than once to be touched. Obviously the quality is extraordinary, but the music choice… Maybe it is because we are seeing this program for the first time… I don’t know, it is a question of music… Regarding them, nothing to say of course. They will probably give us goose pumps next time we watch that program, because they always do.
- I agree with you… I don’t know if it is the music, I was expecting a more explosive finale. There is a moment I told myself “Is it really touching me ?”. For the music, everybody has an opinion, but both of them are wonderful, you forget their skates.
- On the technical side, it is great, the confidence they have, they know exactly what they are doing… The strength Guillaume has to stand that position, especially while making spins. They are impeccable technically, 13 points above the Canadians and as for the GOEs, they have very high grades in interpretation 9,96, all the grades are above 9,50, closer to 10 than 9,50… Right now, this program doesn’t touch me like the others, it is a little cold for me.
- I agree, I thought the same thing,
- But it may be our fault, because it is the first time we are watching it… But the feeling and the emotion they have between them don’t reach me right now like in other occasions or with their RD…"

Thank you, Tila, for the translation. I had guessed what they were saying about the music and can relate to it. I'm not sold on it as being the best background for their skating. It doesn't "lift" it... not that they need "lifting" per se: We get caught in the magic on whatever type of music they use and I don't even dislike the music. To me it just doesn't add a layer of magic to their dance like their previous choices. Imo they need more contrast between music and style ...

When I watched the FD for the first time, I thought, okay this may be a minor Papadakis/Cizeron program. Just like all great creative artists have their major and minor pieces. This impression is not fixed and will continue to change as they work through the season, but part of the reason for my reaction I think was the music. Speaking from personal taste, I can't take music with vocals for a competition program with the same seriousness as with instrumental pieces (the only exception being Berezhnaya/Sikharulidze's 1999 Worlds LP, with haunting and pure vocalization, no lyrics). I know that ISU was thinking about drawing in more audience and "democratizing" the sport when they decided to allow lyrics but for me it never worked. And this particular choice of Yamagata has its own inherent problems. How well an indie-folk piece/voice plays in a large arena with a vast surface for movement (I'm talking about atmosphere rather than acoustics) is very uncertain. There's also always the risk of the lyrics "overexplaining" the emotional terrain of a program and limiting its interpretation on the part of the audience.

It'll be interesting to see how they retool the program. Usually they stick by their music cut and alter the choreography, but who knows this season? I hated MS on first viewing.
