Figure Skating in Australia

Very pleased about the progress Matilda and William have made.
Their RD was really a pleasure to watch. You can tell that they are pushing themselves.
I thought they should've been ahead of the the 8th and 9th place teams in front of them- but they are less than 1 point apart so I am fine with that.

They had some nice choreographic moments (some tango flair), improved speed and unison.
Their program also was very well constructed and packaged- and it felt more like a tango program than a series of element accompanied to music, becaused they picked features and nuances in the music to bring out.

Ted praising Darian's tight air position is making me so happy.
Great job in climbing the standings.

Good work from Amelia too. Really nice spins.
Bit worried about her 3S through- bending very forward on her takeoff.

I don't know if it is a reflection of the revised IJS for this season or not, but Amelia Jackson was penalised somewhat by the judges in TES at the ISU JGP - Cup Of Austria. Her scores were far lower than last year.

Not a bad weekend's work for Team Australia.

Kailani was 4th and her programs are excellent. Brooklee had some hiccups in her FS but it's a great program for her and I'm sure we'll see it clean at some point - as always, the Nationals showdown promises to be delicious!

Jordan clearly got eaten by altitude in SLC and then looked still a bit affected or tired in Canada; I think the FS is a good one for him though. Andrew's FS in Canada was outstanding, even with minor jump errors.

A shame we couldn't see Brendan, I hope he's not hurt.

Urgh. Brooklee Han seems to be really struggling with her jumps so far this season.

Both at the Autumn Classic, and now, at the Nebelhorn Trophy. It must be a tremendous challenge juggling training with her university studies. Doing back to back competitions can't help, either.

*runs into thread shrieking*

Thanks for the heads up, Karne! Can't wait to see it!

This is random, but has anyone heard what Holly Harris has been up to? I've been hoping to see her in competition but she's not competed in a long time...

No idea. Her social media looks like she is still skating for team AUS, but no news.

Loved watching the Australian Nationals in Macquarie!

It was my first time watching a Figure skating event in Sydney and I had a blast.

I got to talk to Kailanie! She was so lovely and down to earth. She skated phenomenally !

I only watch the Ladies free skate but I got to see Brendan from a far.

Kailanie and Brooklyn Han were a cut above the rest.

Glad you had a good time! Kailani and Brooklee were outstanding. Even with Brooklee's little errors she really shone, I feel like these are her two best programs.

Brendan was exceptional, his SP was wonderful and his FS was pretty good too (even if Disaster Grease). It's a shame you didn't get to see the men's free, because Andrew was exquisite, James was a little firecracker and Jordan skated one of his best programs in a long time. It was a really great event!

I really enjoyed the ice dance. I was encouraged to see the progress.
I was also happy to see Dani and Greg coaching.

I will mention here that a finnish junior skater Milania Väänänen has said that she and an australian skater Hektor Giotopaulus Moore are planning to team up and switch to pair skating. Or maybe Hektor is already a pair skater, she didn't specify. In any case, if things would work out then they would likely train in Russia and in Finland.

I heard something about this earlier this year, that Hektor had skated pairs in a domestic comp (Crystal) with a young Russian girl. If this is the case then evidently that partnership didn't work out.

Hektor skated in the junior pairs event at the Crystal Challenge in Melbourne a few months ago. Their short program protocols indicated that they were very promising. But for whatever reason, they did not compete in the free skate the following day.

Hektor was a spectator at the recent Australian Championships in Sydney. Boy has he grown since the last time I saw him in late 2015 at the National Titles in Penrith. He looked very strong, fit, and tall. I am sorry to hear his recent partnership did not work out, as I believe they had been training together for a year. But I am also glad that he will be continuing, too.
