Javier Fernandez

Another thing Javi said that stuck with me was that he wants to "retire before the sport retires him". He wants to go out on his own terms and not wait until he becomes irrelevant, and I respect that so much.

I think that's wise - he leaves while on top, no slow decline as too many of them had. Javi was one of the two giants of the 14-18 quad in mens skating, and it's nice that that will be how he's remembered....

So Javi did get to go to the Grand Prix Final - the banner that is  Again, a huge shoutout to the friend remaining anonymous who took the task to herself in Grenoble and got the banner up in Vancouver - the competition for space was very tough there! And the lovely people with eagle eyes spotted the banner and did the rest to remind the world what the skating world is missing: the first on IG, and later on Twitter. He actully did two GPs and qualified for the final

A little quieter than last week after the retirement announcement, but he was on TeleMadrid for an interview (hope video works in the end) and also a little clip from Noticias Vamos at Movistar interview.

And the Olympic Channel released (finally) his FS on YT. It was emotional to watch it after a while. It is still amazing to see Javi pull himself together after the 4S pop and execute the best second part of FS in a long time to earn himself that medal... And that second 3A with the way he woos Dulcinea going into it, turns around and jumps... One of my fabourite parts.

Strictly in Spain until the end of the ROI tour on December 29.

Yesterday busy getting ready for the times after his skating career... (Well, in reality a phtoshoot for one of his sponsors...) And in the evening dressing up and rubbing shoulders with the cream of Spanish sports at Gala de los Premios Deporte AS: on the red carpet and getting interviewed once (around 1:50, about women and sports in Spain) and twice (about the theme and a bit about himself as well, starts around 27:30). And a short interview as text in IuSport and EuropaPress.

That he will do again in the COE event on Thursday night, but that time he will be one of the athletes to get an award. Sunday he will perform in the gala of the Spanish Nationals at Logrono.

Next week practices for the second leg of the tour - the cast is different and they probably have to rework many of the numbers. As he is the face of the tour, I would expect also plenty of PR work.

Oh, and the first show gig for 2019 was announced the other day: Fire on Ice on November 6 and 7 in Ostrava and Bratislava with Josif Sabovcik, Tomas Verner and Alexei Yagudin...

I've found out a few hours ago and the only thing I have to decide about is whether I'll go to both shows or just one of them and which  Javi and Tomáš  I don't even need anyone else. It's great that Javi will be so close and I don't have to regret so much that I can't go to Minsk in the end...

Wow Javi is super busy :eeking:

Hi, I saw Chinese and Japanese fans gathering messages to be given to Javi at Europeans. I'm wondering if international fans are doing it too?

The one question in Brian's interview really concerning Javi was both good (Javi is determined to get that 7th European gold) and worrying (Brian's tone when he mentioned the 3 weeks of training).

Meanwhile Javi continues his life in Spain, looking quite content and happy doing what he is doing and being where he is.

After the AS gala, he hopped on a plane and flew again to Gran Canarias to promote the show there. This included the obligatory visit to a local football club, UD Las Palmas. And a visit to the local roller skating club - the looks on the girls' faces when he walks in is just  Javi fills almost half of the sports news for the Canary islands that day. He looks pretty comfortable on those roller skates, although they said in the main news blurb that he has done it last time when he was 7. It would have been great to see even more of that! He will also star in a tourism ad for the islands - I love this pic of him in the sand dunes (so out of his element!).

Back to mainland Spain for the Marca 80th anniversary celebrations during Thursday afternoon, rubbing shoulders with the royalty (once again) and getting an award for "Perfeccion" . Iker Casillas was also one of the award winners (the pic in Twitter was from this event). The event can be viewed on YT (Javi interview around 27 min), ceremonies as well, and highlights. And in same the evening he got another award from the Spanish Olympic Committee as one of their best of 2018. (There was still sth else on Thursday, a seminar where he was present via online or recorded discussion, but don't have the energy to dig out the tweets, but it was this. Obviously he could not be there in person on that day!)

On Friday he opened a temporary ice rink in the center of Madrid - a collaboration with Huawei and CrisCancer with all the proceeds going to cancer research. There was tons of videos and interviews, he skated Prometo (or rather half of it) and sounded a bit hoarse. TeleMadrid, Marca, interview with Tablero Deportivo (what caused that look on his face at the end??). Just Prometo. Four different clips on YT on this event: 1, 2, 3, 4. And a phone interview with Onda Cero at some point.

Before heading to Logrono to perform at the Nationals gala on Sunday, he apparently had a bit of quality time with his girl (based on his IG story, West Side Story). :luv17: A short clip from Logrono already up.

Next week will be again all about ROI. I would expect some PR for Murcia. There are some changes to the cast - I think Misha Ge was supposed to be there, but his name was never up on the website, so I guess it was uncertain to begin with. This is based on a PS on Misha's IG post, so... But they needed a third guy to do at least some of the old choreo and it ended up being Javier Raya. Smart and Diaz also changed into Hurtado and Khaliavin and Yuka Sato will be back.

The real world job photoshoot turned out to be a shoot for a Christmas wishes video from one of his sponsors and it is quite hilarious with Javi being empolyed in every part of the company it seems  (And I still think he could take up acting as a non-skating career rather than this all...)

When is Euro Championships happening? I need to place it in my calendar.
I hope he is in shape, 3 weeks of training is kinda short.

Just a reminder, you've probably already heard about it or have found out - many figure skating orientated channels on Youtube are being taken down, hundreds of skating videos have been deleted... So if you have some favourite performances of Javi or any other skater it's better to download them before it's too late. :(

This is a nightmare :sad46:

How can one do the downloading, please? My favourite is "Guys and Dolls" from WC 2016, his best skate ever...

Just type "youtube download" or "youtube downloader" in google. You get many links for downloading sites. Not all videos work on all sites. But it shouldn't be a big problem, you can just try a different one. (Usually the quality is 720 or 360, the higher the better). On the downloading site you enter the youtube address of the video you want to download.
