Yeah, I keep thinking Gracie should have done the Polina Edmonds route--start with low-level summer competitions--deliberately mark the jumps as you get the routines down and get back into shape. Unfortunately, she wasn't well enough to do her full routines, but Polina got through her token GP assignment with a decent short and placed eighth--not great, but also not the very bottom of the pack for the season. Then, when Nationals rolled around, she knew where she was and put on a nice little short for the hometown crowd.
Not what she wanted, but also not traumatizing, if it's the last time she skates competitively at least she looked good doing it.
I suppose Gracie had so much natural talent that she didn't have to build up by increments the way a less-talented, but more determined, skater would.
