2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Please tell me Kostornaia got the highest...otherwise there is no justice in this world.

There is no justice in this world.

Alina got the highest at 38, then Evgenia and Stanislava 35, and then Alena (Kostornaia) had 34. Alena did fall over in the middle of her step sequence, so I guess that could’ve affected her, but she was still robbed.

Another crime? Anna (Shcherbakova) had a 31.

Last year she got 75, she was a much stronger skater.

Now she is coming from a disastrous GP season and all her jumps that used to be huge and beautiful are now a question mark in the rotation.
Same as with zhenya I think. She too left eteri to train with another trainer. She too seems to change bodywise at the moment at least for me it looked that way. Mabye she too is changing skating style and correcting it .? She just doesn't have the eyes of everyone on her like zhenya has.at least not in that format like zhenya

Can anyone explain to me how funding works in Russia? Let‘s say Zhenya finishes anywhere that isn‘t near to top 6 and outside top 10. Will she continue to get funding next season? I doubt it as nationals are important...

I think each their skater with degree Master of sport, have some regular wage + if they are competitive with good results, RusFed pay their training or even help them with some other things. It can be enough for standard life in Moscow, but certainly not enough for life in Canada + payments for training with Orser. Also Zhenia have contract with Pantene (if Im not wrong), so she receiving some money from there. Im afraid that if she will not comeback to better form, soon or later she can lose support in RusFed, especially if costs for her training in Canada are significantly bigger than for other russian world class skaters with currently better results. Maybe this is one of reasons why she look so concerned :(

Rusfedalready said they don't pay for zhenyas training, I think they may pay for her apartment . Apart from that they are only paying for her travelling

Alena Leonova just keeps marching on!

Looking at the list of ladies I figure in Russian skating terms she must be older then Jesus or Adam and Eve

If Liza feels 40, then Alena must be about 60 in Russian skating years. Still going strong though! ;) When she competed at the Olympics, some of her current competitors were in their early years of primary school. In Liza's absence, the next oldest skater at RusNats seems to be Zhenya at the ripe age of 19 :drama:

Watch Leonova show Caro how it's done. Her artistry is developing quite right. And in their age no one cares for TES anymore. Playing TES games is for kids! ;)

EDIT: Oh right, Zagitova duh. Dunno why she slipped from my mind for just a second there, but no shade was intended by this comment. Do enjoy me some Zagitova too.

I agree with you that Kostornaia seemed like the best overall skater in this event, Footwork mistake aside.

I know but what danjii did with the masterpiece that is phantom is beyond criminal. 2 songs would have been enough, and without those horrible music cuts..

Count me as criminal too. It’s one of the only POTO’s I can stomach and I think it’s because I don’t have to listen to one movement for too long.

Alina s skating is great, but as I am a huge fan of phantom since I have seen the musical more than 10 years ago for the first time I just can't get to like it. But hey to each their own.

Its not necessarily the music that is to much but those music cuts at least for me.

It is probably because I'm not a big fan of POTO (or any other musical, to behonest) that I'm on good with the cuts
But, in fact, it is that those "cuts" create the story for me that I understand and that I like.

Rusfedalready said they don't pay for zhenyas training, I think they may pay for her apartment . Apart from that they are only paying for her travelling

But is it really that expansive comparing to the costs in Moscow? Someone can provide her with an appartment, Rus Fed will cover all the travelling costs and equipment and Orser can give her some discount based on the results, in game is his reputation too after all.

If Tuktamysheva and Lipnitskaya could start their career without literally no finantial fundings, Med, an Olympic Silver medalist can make it.

There are still a lot of well paid shows where she can participate to pay for everything by herself.

She got pretty solid PCS for a junior who made a serious error causing a total loss of control during a StSeq. 8.68 in SS with such an error is a great mark. It was disruptive and caused the crowd to gasp and sent the poor girl off course and TBH was very awkward looking.

I think the judges are showing a strong preference for her based on today’s marks.

For me alena is better than Sasha. Yes Sasha has her quads, but for me alena is the whole package even without quads. So I would not find it unfair at all if alena gets placed before smash if Sasha isn't clean but alena is

Yes, Kostornaya is better than Trusova except jumps... that is why I wish and hope that next season she will have a more complicated tech content, in order to be competitive in the seniors.

Can someone explain why they put during the live stream a small window cam showing what is Evgenia currently doing?
