2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Isn't Tukt going anymore? I defo want her to have the world's spot, and I think universiade will help her to prepare.

I think the speculation, per Mishin’s comments, was that Universiade would be too much with Worlds so close and he’d prefer to skip it in order to focus exclusively on Worlds.

I agree it’s too close to Worlds, but I can see why RusFed would want to see her compete. Isn’t she still getting her jumps back?

(That said, I 100% support a Tuk/Alina/Sofia world team)

Tukt reported to do 2A and most of triples, but I don't see her at Wolds without her full potential and solid 3A.
Without her axel she may rethink her retirement.

I thought she would do some B level comp or Russia Cup Final instead of Universidade in prep for Worlds but no word yet.

I think that Sofia should be leading today. Alina is still getting Olympic champion PCS and Sofia seems underscored.

Alina skated almost clean... but why does she look lately like she is gonna burst into tears/throw up when she steps on the ice?

Stanislava... no surprise here.

She was probably nervous. She looked nervous to me, but not sick/injured/ill. She's probably coping with all of the pressure of proving that she was a "worthy" Olympic champion and preserving championship spots for next year. And she looked pleased after her skate despite having small errors, which is a great sign to me. She is growing more comfortable with the idea that she cannot be perfect all of the time, and that makes me happy to see. I think this will help her to be able to cope with the pressure more.

I'm just happy that Alina decided to keep competing and not just run off into the sunset with her gold medal like all the other teen prodigies have done since Oksana back in 1994. She's competed more then Oksana, Tara, Sarah and Adelina have combined.

I agree. Alina's kiss and cry from the Grand Prix circuit was often upsetting. GPF seemed to be a real turning point.

For whatever reason I really don’t want Alina to have warhorses next season. I want to see her with a couple of unknown pieces, the so-called “strange” out of the box programs that Evgenia had, the kind that Eteri’s juniors have now. Like Valieva’s unique program, for example. Anyone agree?

I've heard of people sending Daniil suggestions on IG. You can try too if you want.

Agreed. Alina's exhibition programs show that she's a much more modern skater than the competitive material they've been giving her. It would be interesting to see her skate to something unexpected. I thought her Swan Lake short had some compelling modern takes in it choreographically (you actually can make old things new again!) but I don't think they've really pursued that much since.

I agree, although I actually think she does well playing warhorse characters, from the black swan to Christine and Carmen. She can embody a role well. It’s just that the programs this season are so incoherently constructed that I don’t understand what the narrative is, which isn’t her fault. (Black Swan was very successful in this regard, so I’m not just picking on Daniil). I would be interested to see how she does with something more abstract, but I honestly don’t hate her as a warhorse skater.

ETA I echo the love for her Survivor program. I think Alina is undervalued as a performer in general, honestly.

Right. I don't dislike her programs and I think she embodies those roles well (there are moments of brilliance in her POTO short despite the frenetic music cuts; I'm not as convinced by the choreographic narrative in Carmen). I do think she has a much wider range as a performer that hasn't really been showcased yet. She's capable of more.

Good idea actually. No doubt, Gleikhengauz has a broad musical interest and many contacts around the world, always on the lookout for good music to use for the skaters. But unique and original music is still hard to come by when you cannot just commission a composition. Any piece of music needs to be cut and mixed to make it suitable for a figure skating routine. And you'll need to have composer and performers on hand for several weeks of live rehearsals until the music is fitted to the skater's routine or vice versa. No doubt Gleikhengauz knows his way working with Logic Pro and the like. But compositions from sound samples often sound artificial. Kostornaya's wonderful "Dos Cadencias" just doesn't sound the same when not played on a real grand piano in a recording studio with ample acoustics and qualified recording engineers.

Regarding Zagitova I too would like to see her skate to some powerful music that goes with her athletic and mature skating.

so who still thinks Konstantinova should go to Worlds ? she has history of doing well only in domestic competitions

Tuk/Zagitova/Samodurova should be solid team in keeping 3 spots
with Med as the first alternate
