Ahhhhh Mariah whyyyyyyy..... she was almost US Champion :sad4:
She keeps messing up on that same lutz! Maybe it should come earlier in the program. Other than that I love her freeskate.

I like Alysa, thank goodness she came along, the US badly needs her, but it's a little sad for the US that our champion is someone too young for both senior and junior competition.

A little surprised at Bradie, with the uncharacteristic fall. I think that was the worst freeskate I've seen from her these past two seasons. I wish her program was set up a little better to add a triple toe to a second jumping pass if an earlier attempt fails. The fall wasn't just costly because she fell, but because she didn't attempt the triple toe.

Eh...she was the best this night. If Mariah and Bradie went clean they would have both beaten her. I don't think we're in that bad of a position. This season I'd say we're third in terms of depth of ladies' figure skating compared to other countries. (A DISTANT third compared to Russia and Japan...but still third nonetheless.)

The future seems bright...at least hopefully.

The last time we had junior phenoms like this we had Caroline, Rachael, Mirai, and Ashley. Caroline never fully was a top competitor. Rachael was solid as an international senior for about three seasons until the 2011 Worlds fiasco. Mirai had a decent career full of highs and lows but in the end achieved something to be proud of...and then Ashley ironically ended up doing the best out of all of them...who was the one who wasn't as hyped or seen as great as the other three.

So while we talk about Alysa, Hanna, and Ting, I'm just saying that maybe someone like Gabriella or Audrey Shin or Ashley Lin will end up being the US #1 of this figure skating generation. You really never know.

The future of U.S. Figure Skating all in the Top 5... and their talents are utterly through the roof. We have Alysa Liu, a 13-year-old attempting AND landing 3A’s who dreams of conquering Quads. We have Ting Cui who may have consistent issues, but with more exposure could post monstrous scores. We have Hanna Harrell, a true jumper who just needs to clean her programs and add to her artistry. Plus, she might be adding a 3A next season so that’s excting. What a line-up. We also have a few up-and-coming Juniors and Novices who could become medal threats domestically and internationally. If there was any takeaway from this Nationals, it’s that despite the gloom and doom moniker U.S. Figure Skating has seemed to earn, our future is brighter than ever. Kudos to everyone, that was a Nationals made for the history books.

I think Ting earned both a 4 continents and junior worlds assignment, given that Hannah is ineligible.

Strategically, the US might want her to save her energy for junior worlds and not go to 4 continents, because she could possibly help secure 3 spots for next year.

Although, I'd like to see her at 4 continents.

I think the US is looking to be a little stronger next year when Ting and Hannah can be seniors in addition to Mariah and Bradie. And there's always the possible Gracie return.... Then on the junior circuit the US might actually get medals thanks to Alysa.

Hanna isn't age eligible? Shoot.

I think the US future is indeed looking bright, no question.

Currently, it's still a little gloomy though. I hope Mariah and Bradie have saved their best performances for World's or I think we are looking at two spots again next year. The US is lucky the Canadian team is weak this year with Osmond out and Daleman having issues. But Mariah and Bradie still need 6th and 7th place at World's. There are skaters from non-major countries such as Eunsoo Lim, Loena, Elizabet, and Viveca who will be gunning to get into the top 10 at World's. The small opening is that the Russian team is not as strong this year, it's possible Alina will have another implosion. Tuk is a question mark, but I think she will be in form and Sofia will skate clean like always. The Japanese team is likely untouchable without major, uncharacteristic errors.

My Predictions:
Worlds - Mariah Bell and Bradie Tennell
Junior Worlds - Hanna H. and Ting Cui
4CC - Mariah, Bradie, and Megan

Alysa Liu will be eligible for the Junior Grand Prix next season and Hanna Harrell will probably get more assignments as well if she continues as a Junior. Hanna wants to add a 3A next season, Alysa wants to add a 4Lz or some other Quad, and Ting is training Quads. Gabriella Izzo is a big question mark because she’s just as inconsistent as Ting, but unlike Ting, she doesn’t have the scoring potential internationally yet. International judges LOVE to reward Ting. As for Hanna, she is just starting to make a name for herself and she’s the most consistent out of the three girls. Next year we have Isabeau competing as a Junior and Lindsay might as well. Both have 3-3 jumps and are working on harder elements.

Honestly, the fed was really trying to help Bradie but she let it slip away.

But on a positive note, TING SLAYED IT. Now if only she could have that same fight and focus in BOTH programs.

In the LP she rightfully got destroyed by Liu in the tech mark and rightly crushed Liu right back in the PCS so the 7 point difference was acceptable. And her lead margin in the SP was well deserved (they marked Liu so high they had no choice but to score Bradie 76). It didn't look like she got any extra propping or favoritism. Frankly it looked as if they were trying to help Bell more then anybody else. Her SP marks were generous and scoring over 140 in the LP with no 3-3 and a fall is a little eye raising

Bell was overmarked during the Short, but she only really made one glaring mistake when she fell on the 3Lz during the Long. Plus, the new -5 and +5 rewards quality much more than challenging 3-3’s attempts that are performed well. Additionally, Bell is a natural performer and she performed the heck out of that Long. Congrats to all the ladies out there, each and every single one fought.

I don't think she planned one at all. I think the lutz she fell on was suppose to be a 3-2-2 combo if I heard Johnny correctly

And I agree I think she should have scored similar to what Bradie had and not 7 points more. I think overall Bradie was scored fair in context of what she and everybody else did.

Next year we have Isabeau competing as a Junior and Lindsay might as well. Both have 3-3 jumps and are working on harder elements.

Is Isabeau Levito definitely skipping novice? She’s an incredibly talented jumper, but I thought she could use a little more refinement on the components, such as skating skills. I think novice is the place to do that, since she’s only 11(?). But what do I know, our senior champion is 13. Lol. Lindsay Thorngren has all of her triples and a bit more refinement, and she’s also 13, so I could see her skipping novice more than Isabeau.

I’m terms of JGP assignments next year...it depends on how many we end up with, but my predictions are:

1. Alysa Liu - Obviously. Very likely to receive 2.
2. Hanna Harrell - if she skates at her first event like she did at Nationals, she’ll get two.

That’s already 4 slots gone. Not a problem if we have 14, but we could have 7.

3. Gabriella Izzo - She’s set to attend Harvard, so this is a bit of a question mark.
4. Audrey Shin - very promising skater. Hopefully her coaches can continue to work with her on URs.
5. Emilia Murdock - lots of nice qualities, has all her triples.
6. Calista Choi - novice champion, got great marks, all-around solid.

Other contenders, spots permitting...

Sarah Jung, Wren Warne-Jacobsen, Emily Zhang, Aubrey Ignacio, Isabelle Inthisone.

I was comparing skaters from last year and this year, and of the 22 qualifying for last senior nationals, only 10 skated at nationals this year. 5 of the senior skaters competed as juniors at nationals last year. That’s a huge turn over, when sometimes we see many repeats over the years. It goes to show how much change there is in the year after the Olympic s.

Check your math. Mariah scored 142.10 while Bradie scored 136.99 for a difference of 5.11 points. Bradie's biggest mistake was falling on and underrotating her 2nd 3Lz, which meant she wasn't unable to get in the combo. Right there she lost over 6 points in BV.

And like Johnny said she only got to nationals this year because others had a bye. In other years her 6th place at sectionals wouldn't have been enough so she definitely took advantage of it. Huge props to her!

Bradie had a fall with UR, a step out, and missed a combo. Also lacking in artistry compared to Mariah. The fact that she was only 5 points behind Mariah in the FS is what's generous. They were both inflated but in relation to each other, Mariah should've been AT LEAST 5 points above Bradie, if not more.

I was in the arena, and what I observed is the crowd going absolutely nuts cheering for Alysa and for quite a few other ladies.
