2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

The opinion is illogical based on all results this season, and unfortunately many people seem to have this "personal wish" (hmm....I wonder why). It makes complete sense to send Sofia and Liza based on their results and season-long consistency, but if it's down to Alina or Zhenya for the third spot then what I've stated is literally the exact comparison being made.

You may be right but the way you responded to that post was not nice. “Sure buddy”?

Maybe if she wasn’t so underscored for her performances she wouldn’t feel as compelled to over perform ;)

Reflections short program:

What a great feast it was. I was sitting with my  and enjoying every minute!

Guliakova was on fire today! I was almost thinking she would try a 3A, but maybe that comes in the long? She scored 2 points better than in Nationals.
I love Leonova. You go girl! She has been a bit lucky this year. Getting a GP spot after Radionova WD (though it was fair, she was next on the SB list) and therefore qualified for Nationals. And she managed to just squeeze in here. She has such great artistry and I really felt for her not doing a clean program. It is highly likely we won't see Leonova next year at GP or at RusNats.:sad4:
Talalaikina - I like this girl! She has something. I was worried about her 3L but she nailed it. Pity about the comb, but she held on, kept that left foot off and managed to get the 2T in the end. She scored +3 compared to Nationals, hopefully she can improve again tomorrow.
How wonderful it was to finally see a clean Medvedeva skate!! I'm not her biggest fan but she was really great today. That must have boosted her confidence a lot. She's the one to beat tomorrow.
Tuktamysheva - always been a fave of mine. But that 3A just isn't there. In fact at this point she was losing points on it. Downgraded, fall, all that was left was 2 points. She would have scored better with a clean 2A.
Nugumanova - now I'm thinking, with a song called "Smile" you are kinda jinxing it. And it doesn't help when you cry all the time in the KC. Nugu has clearly nerves that don't hold up in competition. She's a wonderful skater but here her nerves got the best of her.
Vasilieva - she has proven to be quite a consistent skater. But I don't know, she gives me nothing...
Konstantinova - I will never understand the hate against her here on this forum. She, again, had a great skate, and no, I can't see those URs. Am I blind? Don't think so...
Tarusina - consistent as ever. Love her, but wasn't she just a little bit off today??
Gubanova - Love her. Best skate of the night. Underscored PCS-wise. If she throws in a gazillion quads tomorrow she will probably end up fourth anyway. That is the reality I'm afraid. It's already decided that this competition is not about her...
Sakhanovich - I had high hopes but she delivered only a few. I fear this competition won't give her any GP spots next year - again.
Gracheva - Never seen this girl before. And she started with a 3F3L !! Impressive, but the rest was not that good.

All in all I am amazed yet again about the standard in Russian Ladies Figure Skating. ALL these girls are fab. I will be following this closely tomorrow again with my

Well said Jontor. I agree with you about Nastya G. It's a shame.

Depends on whether Rusfed will value potencial scores over stability. If they want to beat a clean Rika, the best layout you'd be Alina, Liza and Zhenya. But poor Sonya will be left behind despite hardly making any mistakes.

Is it actually the first this season that she was sitting with the judges instead of commenting the live broadcast?

I think so. Maybe because she was butthurt that they didn't invite her to the council of judges after Rus Nats.

It’s nice to see Zhenya gaining her confidence again. She has a way to go to reach the level we used to see from her but she’s on her way. It’s been such a tough season for her so it’s nice to see her climbing back and not burying herself further.

To me it doesn’t matter who they send to WC. I’ll root for them regardless and I know they’ll do the best they can.

And without the possibility to prove herself today.

The international scoring potential of Sonya and Zhenya is similar. The only difference is the consistency.

Maybe the fact that RusFed prefers just one Mishin girl plays a role... Lize belongs to worlds, her scoring potential is marginally higher than Sonya's...I think Sonya messed up the everyones' minds by winning at EC, no one was expecting that :D And now she's earned a chance to compete at worlds pushing one top girl aside... so who'll be the odd one out?
Personally I'd prefer Liza, Zhenya and Sofia, but thats highly unlikely...

TES I will agree but overall there is no way. Zhenya is eating Sonya alive in PCS even with subpar performances. What more if she skate clean.

Thank you. Well said. :)

I‘ll be fine with whoever they send, too. I‘m so happy for Zhenya but if they send Liza it would be more than justified. I just hope that whoever doesn‘t go to Worlds, ends up getting the Universiade spot so we will be able to see all of them again this season.

Also: do we know who has been named to WTT yet? I thought Alina was going since she mentioned going to Japan with Masaru but who else?

I'm pretty sure this means Zagitova/Samodurova/Medvedeva for Worlds. Sad.:sad21:

I hope not. Ya’ll naturally assumed this competition was a showdown between three skaters, but I think it was a last ditch effort to boot an untrustworthy skater off the team. If RusFed had any sense, the team will be Zagitova, Liza, and Samodurova. They seriously cannot consider giving a spot to a skater based on a 1.5 point win on a single, NATIONALS competition over skaters that did well all season. But it’s very possible that I’m overestimating RusFed and their ability to utilize common sense.

I am also happy for Zhenya, that she enjoyed her skating today. I admire her determination and change to Orser. The only thing I strong dislike is this TAT pushing. It makes no good for Zhenya.

Its different to compete in Russia, where is her fan base who still loves her even if she falls. In the Worlds even the smallest mistake is a risk for the whole national team and knowing that someone who deserved the spot through the whole season and could be the threat for Rika is staying home...

Can they wait till Universiade for the 3rd pick?

Technically they cant since they have to submit their line-up before Universaide but I think they can go around that.

Name either Zhenya or Tuk to the team now but have them skate off at Universiade and who ever looses have them claim her injury and the winner will get the 3rd spot.

Zhenyas PCS are getting lower while Sonyas are rising. Now she is a European champion

I mean, with the scores, I think rusfed showed who they want to go to worlds

Liza is not a threat to Rika. She neither has the PCS advantage or ad good 3As.

She said so herself.

RusFed is in a tricky spot. Wrong decision and they lose 3 spots.

That would be the worst solution. Whoever goes to the Worlds needs enough time to prepare. There is no chance to peek in the Worlds, when they will still battle at universiade

Another skate off? That will be too hard for both skaters.
