2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I honestly think that RusFed should have made Alina to skate to this event too, because her last performances were really really bad.
It might be that at this point in time, both Evgenia and Liza are better than Alina.

Alina lost on purpose from Sofia, to bring the worst out of RusFed and fans. She reminds me the fat kid (the one that was eating the pies) from "Stand By Me" movie.

If all three girls will have another skate off just before the Worlds, they will be even worse then today. Whoever will go need to prepare right now. Everyone of them can mess up.

And I think they are kind of observing the girls during their training so they know what is their condition right know.

It is different when skaters actually compete and when they are in training. That it is why it had been fair for all the skaters involved to make Alina and maybe even Sofya (although she was consistent all season long) to skate. I dont think this would have impact their preparation for Worlds in a negative way, on the contrary.

I get that the scores for Zhenya were inflated, but Liza doesn't deserve 72+ PCS, if we're being honest and unbiased

Yes, they were both overscored. Liza is really slow in person. She is never going to get high PCS internationally. Med ‘s GOE was overly generous on certain jumps. But, they were the two best skaters here overall ( I love Gubanova and I think her sp should have been 1st but the long was error filled) so it will be a hard decision for the fed. I think both Med and Liza have advantages/ disadvantages. Liza’s score is determined by her success with her 3A. If she fails, she does not have a PCS cushion. Med has had a rough season and could bomb ( as could Alina) which would cause problems in getting 3 spots. Very difficult decision. No perfect solution

I'd like to remind everybody that Alina has more medals this season than both Liza and Med even with falls and breakdowns.
So I would take a chance and send Alina as a 1st, because she's the only one who has potential to beat Kihira if she's absolutely clean. Liza won't get high psc and Med... well, I'd just say I doubt that international judges will be so lenient.

It doesnt matter the previous medals. If it would have matter, Medvedeva would have won the Olympics, wouldnt she:biggrin:?

Liza is very tired from proving she deserves a worlds spot and says she has done all she could. So please no more skateoffs at Universiade.

After some years we finally again have a TAT vs Mishin drama for national team selection. I think a Zhenya will get the spot controversionally this time again ;)

If that Council decides, I dont think that Evgenia will go.

At least Elizaveta has another chance to prove herself at Winter Universaide. Even though Evgenia won here, the margin is very narrow and this is a domestic competition. It would be a shame for Elizaveta to have come back so hard with her 3a's this season and not make the worlds team

Well both Liza and Evgenia didn’t qualify for Euro. Sure Alina bombed her free but still finished second. They aren’t better than Alina who had better scores than them (GPF and Rusnat). You can’t judge only for one competition and Liza and Evgenia were more relax there. International assignment has not the same degree of stress than domestic competition + the 3A were not competing.

Liza deserves the spot. If Zhenya is sent, it will be based on what happened a year ago, not the season she has had. I don't know why her team is pushing worlds so hard. She should use the extra training time and come back next season refreshed.

What arguments are that? Liza was sick. how could she even qualify for Euro if she didnt even participate in RusNat? If you take into account Euros and RusNat, Alina lost to Stanislava (overall RusNat) and again to Stanislava in the free program at Euros. And Stanislava was made to compete here.
Alina regressed while both Liza and Evgenia are progressing. That is why the RusFed should have made Alina skate here.
And then it would have been more transparent and fair for everyone how they(the RusFed) make the team.
I am not saying that Alina should not go to Worlds, just that it is unfair to get that spot only based on reputation, without being valided in this competition, as the others.

Worlds means relevance, ranking points (since she didn't go to Europeans), and staying at the top of the heap.

I admire Medvedeva for her grit in this competition, and think Liza would do better at Worlds (and congrats for landing the 3A!), but don't have an issue with Medvedeva going to Worlds. I think Liza, based on her season, deserves it more though.

In this comp, I thought Liza's PCS was obviously way too high Med's too, of course, but not by as much, and would be marked way lower internationally. But Med also got gifted on some URs, which I don't know if international panels would be so lenient on. So it kinda balances out.

The medals that were won THIS SEASON matter. Because they give the perspective on how she will fare against the foreign ladies at Worlds. Why you mentioned Olympics, I have no idea.
