2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Somehow I totally can.

IMO, he mostly provides programs that are misses because they're boring or out of character for the skater. In this case however, it's a horrendous music edit that even I'm surprised by. I usually only expect music edits this terrible to come from Danny G--eg, that trash he gave Alina for her short program. Both girls are so much better than the programs they're given.

This tech panel is a shame to Russia and FS as a whole. This was worse than Ice dance *..* and a complete farce. Such skate-offs are not needed anywhere.

From the contenders for a senior GP nobody was flawless so I think it will be a toss up and politicking/flavour of the month again. I liked Gubanova the most but the FS had more than one mistake...

Maybe they will see who can get JGPs - I think Tarusina should have a much better chance of getting to the final and catching some attention there this year.

With Stasya and Masha at Universiade I still think we can get a medal! Stasya isn't in bad shape...

I totally agreed.

They need to face reality. Alina has score less than 200 at the Europeans, with a favorable panel. Her momentum is progressively going down.

I'm not saying that she can't surprise everyone and medal fair and square at the Worlds, but keeping those spots is so damn important. Let be frankly, this is a season of transition for the russian ladies. Liza and Sofia are the safest bets for that purpose, with Alina unstable.

OK, let's face reality. Alina: medaling at every, I mean every international competition this season, holding world record in total score and literally the only one who can defeat clean Rika. And yes, with just one score below 200, while also with one over 210, two over 220 and one over 230 (WR). Vs. skater who did not medal at any GP competition this season with only one score over 200 internationally and two below 200.

The mention of "a favorable panel"? I'm sorry? what panel do you think we saw today? And what panel we saw on rusnats? This whole competition was "a favorable panel" if you missed it.

"She can surprise" - that's just completely disrespectful from you, considering the whole season record, or simply cherrypicking to put things not as they really are but as you desperately want they would be.

It is as usually. Someone who is on the top, makes one weaker result and everybody rush with this "she's done/she is unstable" and all this completely biased narrative. But when somebody is nearly all season down and then makes something "not so bad", it's "whoa, miraculous comeback" and all. No, that would require much more than a domestic competition with "a favorable panel".

And, after all, Liza is the one who skated the best FP of all seniors today, I hope you recognize the line...

It would be exhausting for Liza. I really think she deserves her spot for worlds but I think Rusfed wants to give zhenia a chance to defend her two world titles without Osmond.

I think Zagitova is the problem for her, not Osmond. Kaetlyn is a worthy champion but she capitalized on others' mistakes to win last year.

I also don’t understand this logic that Alina needs to “prove” herself. She has come in first or second at every competition she competed this year. Technically she was second of eligible seniors at Rusnat too. Yes, she’s struggled in the last few competitions and hasn’t performed up to her capabilities but she’s the only one who can really challenge Rika.

Agree she doesn't have to prove herself. She has the best record of the Russians this year. She is a lock for the team.

I think what people are trying to say is that there is a downward trend. Yes, she started off in September in v v good shape and got a WR. But with every competition, there's progressively more and more mistakes. Then Russ Nats and Euros where she was literally being given a gold she just fell apart in the LP.

Please, lets be honest. Euros is no longer a valid competition in terms of medaling. Half of the field we saw today would get silver and some gold, including Zhenya. Plus, Alina's momentum has been decreasing throughout the season, the WR she made was in the very beginning of the season. Im not saying she shouldnt go to worlds, as probably she's on of the few chances to beat Rika, but lets face reality. She's not in the best shape right now. At least mentally.

I don't think it would be fair to send Evgenia instead of Alina, like someone has said. She has struggled in the last competitions, that's true, but her season was still better than Evgenia's. They were both inconsistent and made mistakes, but the potential score of Alina and the possibility of a medal from her are still higher. I'm a fan, but Evgenia only had one good competition and I don't think it's enough to cancel all the ones before.
Maybe Alina's getting worse, but I believe they're going to give her another chance, considering she did good in the first part of the season. Tbh taking her spot and giving it to someone who skated worse all season is not very wise. Also, if her potential spot was on line, wouldn't they have asked her to skate at Russian Cup Final?

alina is probably the biggest risk at this point and therefore should be replaced.she is on a downward trajectory. her lz is getting worse every outing as are her reputation pcs. her lz3l wasn't really clean since olympics. gorgeous spins and a transitions packed program is all that is left at this point. she needs time to grow in peace

Medvedeva was very gracious in a post-match interview, saying that she doesn't mind if Liza is picked for the World team in the end. It is believed that either Medvedeva or Tuktamysheva will get the third ticket.

“I want to say that I have great respect for Liza Tuktamysheva and in general all the girls who performed today. I think it sounds bad, but I see that Liza actually possesses a great desire and many forces in her skating. Liza, thank you so much for being with us, continue to move all of us forward and fall in love with figure skating. Honestly, I think Liza deserved to go to the World Cup. I will be very happy if fate is like that. I, too, was in a very difficult situation during the Olympic season. I know what it is. Let's all support each other and send love everywhere - to the left, right, up, down, around us. Any positive emotions will save the world. Who does not like it? - goodbye.”

I am completely convinced that this is absolutely not the issue what those people really think, they just have their favorite(s) on one side and - not so much favorites on the other :) But, by this logic, some other skaters would not have been there today at all, according their previous results. There are not "more and more mistakes" -in GP final Alina was better than at her previous two competitions. Also, Alina's performance was better at nationals then Evgenia's, even if many people try to portray it the other way. So, there is literally nothing that could strip Alina of her world spot and as was said already, if there would have been doubts, she would be there today, while I consider this a circus the more that Mishin obviously thinks the same about it.

Last year she had the biggest score at pyongchang but faltered at worlds. You can’t judge only by one competition. Liza was under the 200 marks at dragon trophy but did well today.

It's David Wilson...his choreography peaked with Yuna Kim. There is a reason Hanyu dropped him after 2014. I can't believe he managed to make a tango so insipid.

I was over him as soon as he criticized Yuna's artistry after she came back in 2013. I have my own opinion about Sochi, but if I were Yuna I'd expect a more vigorous defense from a choreographer I helped to make more famous.

Well, just saying that I‘m glad I‘m not the one who has to make the decision. I don‘t envy Rusfed, whatever they do someone will inevitably be unhappy. Personally, I don‘t care as much. I will cheer all of them on whoever goes because I‘m a fan of all of the ladies that are considered for the spots.

About Alina: I‘ll imagine Rusfed is watching her training. If her spot was in danger, they would have sent her to the Cup Final to compete. That‘s how I see it, without talking about “realistic scoring potential“, “only chance to beat Rika“ or “medaled everywhere this season“. GP shouldn‘t matter too much at this point, it‘s too far away now and a lot can change. Alina isn‘t in the shape she was in when she won all the competitions, including when she medaled at GPF. Does that mean I think she should lose her spot? No, not at all. And I don‘t think it will happen either, given what rusfed has done in the past. My opinion hasn‘t changed, this was a competition for the third spot. Now that Zhenya and Liza are so close, it’s a bit more difficult but I doubt it will change the final outcome drastically. But we will see anyway what rusfed does. I certainly won‘t be surprised by anything anymore.

And btw, not that this changes anything but @flanker: Zhenya actually has a medal from the GP circuit. Bronze, SCI. Just so we can keep to the facts.

Very gracious of her.

Fingers crossed that they both get to go.

It would be a joke yes. Alina did better than Zhenia at every event and Liza missed Rusnat and Euro. To be fair, Liza should be sent at worlds but because she was inconsistant last year, they asked her to compete to gain her spot. Not like zhenia who missed Rusnat and Euro.

Oh, someone posted it already. I especially liked the last part. ;)

“Any positive emotions will save the world. Who does not like it? - goodbye“

Very classy and mature of her to speak like that about Liza. And she is right: Liza really deserves to go! Why does Russia only have 3 spots..

The spot reveal kind of ruined my dreams but I'll go to sleep still wishing to read

TAT: Medvedeva is on the return toward the top but not ready to fight for gold at WC yet. She will be the star of the Universiade!

Good night.

Did TAT actually say that? Cause the team for Universiade was named and Evgenia is not in it.
Ahh ok, it was just a dream... i just read it now more carefully :)) Funny, anyway

Alina always did well at practice. The problem is will she be able to handle the stress ?
I’m sure Rusfed would ask her to compete at Russian cup if they had doubt about her physical abilities
