But it‘s so entertaining, we can‘t stop! It‘s the best drama we‘ve got in months. No better drama than Russian figure skating drama.

3A are the strongest force for RusFed in recent epoch but no way all three will be in good shape next season. One - almost sure, two is unlikely.
I bet for Kostornaya to last longer.
So Zagi being not that old may be still a valuable asset.
Medv is less likely and I'm very sorry for Tukt.

Why are you sorry for Tukt? She has 3A, the best tech in the field, and she will compete next year.
We will see who will be in good form next season, it is not certain that Zagitova will be either (in good form).
The idea is that the RusFed has many other skaters to replace Zagitova or any of them.

Na last season she missed RusNats and world's, zhenya competent at euros that's where alina beat her for the first time I think

I was just about to say this. Not sure why Euros became the end all be all. But this idea that Alina coming in second at Euros means she's done and on a downward trajectory, when last year no one would have made the argument to send someone else to the olympics in place of Zhenya because she only came in second at Euros.

I actually suspect that Zagitova might perform better next year than she has this year. No necessarily beating all the 3A, but I could see her surprising people. I think that all the attention on the 3A will decrease the amount of pressure she faces as she's no longer expected to win and that this may help her skating considerably.

Really? Zhenya didn't fall apart last year. That's the difference.

It would be a joke yes. Alina did better than Zhenia at every event and Liza missed Rusnat and Euro. To be fair, Liza should be sent at worlds but because she was inconsistant last year, they asked her to compete to gain her spot. Not like zhenia who missed Rusnat and Euro.

Evgenia went to Europeans last year and won the silver.
And this year she went to Nationals and the cup final.

you cannot compare how Evgenia performed at last year Euros and Alina at this year.
Evgenia had a very very small mistake (step out from 2A) while Alina literally bombed the Euros.

I have a feeling next year’s Russian Cup final will be even better entertainment ;)

This event is gaining importance IMO and I think will become vital for many in making the WC team. What an honor it must be to represent this group of ladies. The talent is just mind blowing. I wish we could shoot them into space and orbit them at the speed of light in order to cheat time and only land them when there is room for them on the national team. At this pace though we may even run out of space

Last year there also wasn't a skate off when Evgenia didn't compete at nationals so I don't get why there is such a debate over the third spot when Elizaveta should be a no-brainer

Yeah sure but the result is still the same silver medal for both, ticket for one for the olympic and for worlds for the other

I agree being Eteri’s only russian senior this year put a lot of pressure on her shoulders. With the 3A, Eteri will focus more on the new girls and let Alina to breath.

Plot twist: Zhenya was only invited to compete here for RusFed to see how she's doing, Sofia + Alina + Liza go to Worlds, Stasya + Maria to Universiade, and Zhenya ends her season on a high note and starts preparing for the next one. Happy end!

Surely all Liza had to do here was prove she was on the right track and is going to worlds, right? I mean she was head and shoulders above everyone, except Alina, all season long it would seem crazy to send someone who hasn't had a single clean competition this season over her.

Besides she's only recovering from illness, not injury, and from what she showed here a month is more then enough to get back full strength. She also doesn't have the "baggage" Evgenia has currently so surely that makes her a safer bet. Unless it is politics and they not only personally like Evgenia better but also don't want two Mishin girls at worlds.
