Mikhail Kolyada

The Raf rumour has been going around for a while and sounds unconvincing precisely for the reason you said. The Lambiel thing is new and out of left field. Anyway, as far as insiders are concerned, apparently we are up for some exciting news in pairs, so this flurry is not limited to Misha.

And the distillation of a lot of things that have been said over this season is that at this point Valentina might actually like Misha to go somewhere else. It's definitely not she who is stopping him.

Meh, I don’t know if I believe that (about Valentina wanting him to leave. I don’t think she’s trying to stop him or anything). I think they are both attached to each other. Valentina was with Misha, not Stasya, this week, after all.

I don't think it's necessarily about a personal relationship. It may be about Misha thinking he knows better than his coach and Valentina not seeing much point in continuing to train him under these conditions. She may also sincerely believe it's for his own good to move to another coach precisely because she has a deeper attachment to him than to just a student.

Misha likes the environment, I guess. But yeah, I have seen no evidence that Stéphane is a viable coach for quad-jumpers.

I don’t buy the Raf rumor. RusFed won’t sponsor Medvedeva, but they will sponsor Kolyada to train abroad? Sounds fake.

But Raf is Russian(not exactly Russian, he was born in Georgia, but at the time it was all Soviet Union so, he's basically Russian).
I'd like to see how Kolyada would do under Raf...

The thing is: money.

I mean, there is Misha's will and everything else, but the main thing is money, which the Fed won't be spending on him, for sure.

It’s a big financial investment, though, and I’m not sure why they would see an inconsistent 24 year-old as worth the risk. Idk.....I think about it a lot, too, but it has always seemed impossible to me. And changing countries would be a huge stresser for him.

In any case, I imagine he will go to Raf over the summer (hence the endorsement deals). Maybe changes will be made then, but I doubt it.

As the end of the season approaches, the off-season changes are coming. I wouldn't be surprised if Kolyada changes coaches tbh.
I'd like to see him with Raf more than with Lambiel, not sure Lambiel is a good fit for Misha. Raf, on the other hand, from what we know from the times Misha trained with him, it sounds like a great fit.

Well, the way I see it, Kolyada has such a huge potential, with his beautiful jumps and wonderful skating, that I think it is worth the investment. But yeah, perhaps you're right. The age thing might actually be the biggest factor.

Not sure it's age. Aliev is younger and has been sent to every coach the fans can think of this season, but I don't really see them putting up money for Raf for him either. They are currently all waiting for Samsonov.

Are there a lot of rumors about misha being a difficult student?

I already said this more than once, but the kid isn't even competing in the juniors. At the moment, I have no idea if he's going to survive until he's of age. I hope he does, for his sake. And the Fed's.

The plan (God knows it will probably change) is to keep the flip for Worlds. He said his hand is okay. Smiley as usual, but there’s a palpable sense of sadness.
Misha indeed has a wry sense of humour. But then how else would you cope with all the crap that's been happening?

For that matter, this interview is just another exhibit in who is making decisions in that tandem and it's not Valentina.

The fact that he has no idea what the layout will be for worlds......I don't even know what to say at this point. I hate how the Fed has intervened in his training in the past, but maybe they should step in here?

Why isnt he going to Mishin? Mishin is in the same city, and a tech coach. He can work with external choreographers as he did in the past.

BUt more success than Valentina for sure.

Idk, Misha has had a better season than any of Mishin’s men. Lazukin could have secured a Worlds spot at Nationals and then at RCF.

I’m not opposed to change, though, and I’m starting to think that the people who advocate a stricter hand (like Mishin) have a point. Strictness might not work for Misha psychologically, but when it comes to layouts some stability is surely needed.
